Hi everybody,

I have iron deficiency for at least 5 years and in the last year it got worse. Now I have serious anemia, very low ferritin count.

I have tried a lot of treatments, now it is certain that I have a disease. It is not about malnutrition.

My doctor wants me to get tested for celiac disease. But I have no other symptoms. No diarrhea, no vomiting, no bloating.

May I still have this disease?

Yep, that was my only symptom when I went in for a routine colonoscopy.  GI saw my low ferritin history (2) and ordered an endoscopy in addition to the colonoscopy, along with a complete celiac blood panel.  Two months later,  fractured two vertabrae doing nothing!  There are over 300 symptoms of celiac disease.    Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for the list of symptoms.

Welcome to the forum!

Absolutely! Be thankful you have a doc who is associating the possibility of celiac disease with the anemia. And btw, there is such a thing as silent celiac where the person has zero symptoms at all.

Get tested. And whatever you do do not stop eating gluten until all testing is completed.

Thank you.

Actually I'm like this for 5 years and this is the first time a doctor talked about celiac disease. I hope they'll find the reason of my anemia. If it is celiac be sure I'll come more often:)

Please let us know what happens either way.

I've read anemia is the most common symptom of celiac disease now.

Good luck with the testing.Enjoy a cinnamon bun for me.  ;) Let us know how it goes.  :)

Hi again,

I went to a doctor and he started examination. First he made some blood tests. He said that I may have celiac or a bone marrow problem. I've checked my blood tests in the last 4 years. B12 is always on the upper edge, between 450-600. Calcium, Chlor, Potassium, Phosphor, Magnesium, Sodium are all normal in these 4 years. Ferritin is low for about 5 years, ranges are between 3-7. Now 3. I don't know. If I have celiac why in these 6 years it didn't get worse?

I'm impatient because this diagnosis procedure is long:(

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
