Gluten Free Icing and Sprinkles?

Hey all,

So my friends are throwing a cookie making party next week (didnt even know that was a thing!). I got my sugar cookie mix and my gluten free frosting, but does anyone know of any store bought brands of sprinkles and/or icing that is certified gluten free? I've read stories of people being gluten'd by sprinkles so I wanna be sure with this.

Thanks!

If you do not get a response (I do not use sprinkles), consider jelly bellies, raisins, nuts, chopped peppermint, colored coarse sugar (you can do yourself), etc.

But here is my concern.  As a person with celiac disease, I  bake gluten-free in my gluten-free house using gluten-free dedicated bowls, pans, potholders, etc.  I do attend cookie making at my SIL's house.  Her kitchen is huge.  I sit in the next room (it is open) and watch my family make cookies.  I do nothing!  I sit, talk and eat my gluten-free food.  I bring gluten-free goodies to share and to make sure the rest of my family is not left out (that would be my hubby).     I do not help clean up and I make sure that I am not inhaling wheat flour (the danger is swallowing it).   The a/c is not on (yeah, we live in California), so nothing is be swept up and distributed around the rest of the house.  I make sure I wash my hands before eating and never touch my face while I am there.

Overall, I have a great time and hubby and I are safe.

Have fun, but be safe.

I have never seen a "sprinkle" with gluten.   The amount of gluten you would get from the other people's flour , etc would be much more significant.  If that doesn't bother you, why worry about the teeny tiny bit that might, but probably isn't, in a few little sprinkles?

Thanks everyone! I was planning on bringing my own pan, bowl, cookie cutters, etc for my batch, but I think you're right there is still a risk of cross contamination. Maybe I'll just make mine at home and just watch everyone else do their thing.

So Karen you're saying I shouldnt worry about sprinkles. What about icing? I wanted to get green and red icing to make xmas cookies. Betty Crocker now lists their frostings as gluten free and even indicate it on their packaging, however they don't do this for their icing which makes me concerned. Thanks!

I just meant - that if you are going to majorly cc your cookies - what difference could it make?

If you are able to keep them gluten-free, then just read the ingredients.  I have used different brands and never found any with gluten.  As for "icing", I would read the ingredients or make my own.  But it is hard to get a good red on your own.  Can you link us to the product and we can see what it is?

Adding - do you mean this?  I have used this before and would again if I needed it.

The thing is, even if you make your cookies at home and keep them covered, you will be in a room full of flour dust in the air while others are baking. Unless you wear respirator while you're there you WILL get flour dust in the back of your throat and you WILL swallow it. If it were me I would sadly have to pass. There will be other holiday events to attend.

Read the ingredients!  They were fine last time I used them.! But that has been a couple of years.  The on line ingredients looked ok.  Just make sure that is still the ingredients listed

Hello, just popped in my head to ask this question about medications and celiac? I have always had refurse reaction to meds since I can remember  of what little meds my body is able to tolerate. I was taking gabapentin 300mg for a week,  in past I believe 150? Any ways it amps me up not able to sleep, though very tired. However I did notice it helped with my bloating sibo belly.I hate that my body is that sensitive and medical doesn't seem to take seriously. Im STILL healing with my skin, eye, and now ms or meningioma ( will know in April  which)and dealing with this limbo nightmare. I did write my name, address ect on the reclamation but im not tech savvy and not sure if went through properly. I called my city representative in Stanislaus County and asked if theres a physical paper i can sign for proclamation for celiac and she had no clue about what I was saying, so I just said I'll go back on website.

I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten-free ever since along with other lovely food allergies. Prayers

trents:  Why some can tolerate european bread but not american bread.     I take 600 mcg a day.  Right in the middle of the safe range.   Groups at Risk of Iodine Inadequacy Though though the NIH does not specifically list Celiac Disease in this group, they state: "Iodide is quickly and almost completely absorbed in the stomach and duodenum. Iodate is reduced in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed as iodide [2,5]."  That would certainly include malabsorption of Iodine due to Celiac Disease with resultant Iodine Deficiency. Vegans and people who eat few or no dairy products, seafood, and eggs People who do not use iodized salt Pregnant women People with marginal iodine status who eat foods containing goitrogens Deficiencies of iron and/or vitamin A may also be goitrogenic [51] https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iodine-HealthProfessiona   1
