Along with the other symptoms of gas, bloating, sometimes nausea, sometimes dizziness, all of which can occur from within an hour or two of eating and then last several days, I've also noticed lately weird feeling in my feet and hands....almost a bit numb, definitely tingling, weird feeling overall. This is new....have any of you observed this with a reaction?

Yep. I was dx'd 9 years ago with celiac, but continued to eat cold cereal with malt, malt flavorings. And I so loved the malt drinks from Bicardi and Smirnoff's. I gave those up a little over a month ago, thanks to this forum. My energy level increased dramatically and the numbness in my legs and face, which I had associated with just plain getting older, has reversed some. Some mornings I would get out of bed and it would feel like I was walking on stumps. And the dizzyness I thought was just congestion from allergies. That's mostly disappeared. It may have been a combination of allergies and a low-level glutening for many years. Dunno. I'll mention it to my current gp and see what he thinks. He told me that he dx'd a patient of his with celiac disease and her only complaint was neurapathy with no known cause. celiac disease is a funny disease that way - it manifests itself in so very many ways (200 symptoms that can come and go and have different levels of severity with each person). Hope you find your answers soon and start getting better.

Yes, I'm experiencing some numbness on my right side. In my hand and leg. It seems to vary intensity too. It has gotten very bad at times, severly limiting mobility. Thankfully the worst appears to be over, now that I've been totally gluten-free for several months. That is, as long as the ingredients in my foods are as described on the packages. I mostly don't eat any processed foods, but there are a few items I use for economy and/or convenience. I just contacted Betty Crocker about their instant potatoes. The ingredients don't list anything I can't have as far as I know, but it can't hurt to be sure. Looking it up online I found it listed as both safe and not

I admit I use a notable amount of margarine. Ingredients *seem* ok as far as gluten and the other no-no's I've identified. However, there is some amount of whey or something in it, and though I haven't noticed any dairy issues, I still wonder about that.

I haven't found anything on the brand of rice I've been using. Rice itself is gluten-free of course, but the processing methods - who knows what might be, like cross-contamination or something they use directly on the grains...

The point is, as many have noted, there can be so many litle things, depending on your own particulars. Hopefully we can all narrow them down and address them properly.

Smart Balance is good if you use a lot of Margerine. Gluten Free and it lowers your cholesterol.

I had numbness/tingling daily pre-gluten-free. Now it hardly ever happens..unless I gluten myself pretty good. It used to wake me up at night and like nettiebead said my feet were like stumps. My hands were bad too...I couldnt make a fist with them. All better now. :)

Well the symptoms just keep on coming. For probably a year I have had some mornings when I'll get up and I can't make a fist with my hands. This only happens for a very short period and then it's fine. But lately, sometimes when I get up early in the morning, my feet feel really odd, like walking on stumps as posted above. I just thought again, it was just a sign of aging but I know Rachel is about half my age so it can't be an aging thing.

Hmmm...Thanks. Looking it up, it appears to be essentially the same ingredients as the one I use (Imperial), though I much prefer the stick. I'll switch in a heartbeat if I find out it's part of the problem, though being off of it for months didn't seem to make any difference. Being that I don't eat any animal products, I don't think I have anything to worry about with cholesterol, unless the one my own body makes is bad! (yes, the human body needs and manufactures cholesterol if it doesn't have enough)

From the posts thus far, it sounds as if the numbness should be going away when going gluten-free. In my case it seems like it has only recently gotten worse, and I've been gluten-free for the better part of a year.

In the year or so before I was DX, I had numbness and a strange feeling on my left side starting from my cheek, my left arm, and both legs and feet. The legs and feet were worse when I was laying down. It scared me because I had no idea what it was. I'm gluten-free almost 6 months now and I still get it in my face along with a feeling like my face is burning from the inside. Its hot to the touch. That comes and goes. Not red usually, just hot.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
