Disappearing posts

Has anyone else noticed posts disappearing from the forum?  I have noticed posts disappearing over the last week or 2.  The last time was today.  I wrote a reply to a thread with many long words and nice encouraging comments and gentle explanations only to have it disappear the same day in just a couple hours.  It's not just the posts disappearing.  The total post count at the bottom right of the page for the week will vary up and down also.  So for example, one day your weekly post count says 10 and the next day it says 8.  That ain't sposed ter happen Paw!

I am using Firefox but that shouldn't cause it IMHO.

Anyone else notice this happening?

Yes, I did I have responded on a few topics only have it disappear. I have stopped responding as often as of late on post, gets a tad annoying wording out a post to help someone then Poof. I assumed it was a issue with my stuff just not going through from my end due to rough internet past week but nice to see it might not have been just me.

kareng Grand Master

How did you do that?  I just posted a reply and it disappears!

Glad to see it's not just me.  Seems we have some forum gremlins working overtime!

Ok, this is odd too.  Earlier today I had 6 post for the week.  Now the post count shows I am at 38 posts for the week, just a few hours later.  Several days ago I had 42 posts for the week.

I am also seeing 2 separate listing of this thread's title in the recent topics list.  One topic listing says there are 3 posts in the thread.  The 2nd topic listing says there are 0 posts in the same thread.

There's definitely a problem going on.

Ok, great.  Now it says I am at 5 posts for the week, just a few minutes later.  It was 6 at one point today.

You posted your topic twice and we responded on 1 thread.  That may have been a glitch,  I just hid the duplicate with no responses

You are not crazy!  I noticed that when I attempted to post a few times this morning, or sign on, the forum seemed wacky.  Typing was weird too.   I gave up.

So far, (crossing my fingers) I haven't had any problems. What browser are you all using? I'm on safari. I did see gluten-free's double topic post before Karen hid it. I haven't paid any attention to weekly post counts lately but so far, none of my posts have gone missing.

When I wrote my missing response, I was on my iPhone , using Chrome, as that is really the only way I can post or moderate from the iPhone.

I would think it was all my internet, but slow typing and disappearing  posts happen on different internets, browsers and equipment.

I suppose others may have answered , but their posts have disappeared?  :o

I use both Firefox and Chrome at different times.  If my original post was duplicated that is also another gotcha by the gremlins, as I didn't post it twice.  Does anyone know what the gremlins like to eat?  Maybe we should round up a collection and buy them some treats so they'll leave us alone. :)

I know they like to eat posts. but maybe there is something else they would take as a substitute.  Maybe old gluteny cinnamon bread we want to dispose of anyway?

Thanks CL, nice to know I am not kuhraazee after all! :)

I'm not giving them my gluten-free banana bread or  gluten-free chocolate mint cupcakes!

the double posting thing happens occasionally.  Has happened to me.

Good for you Karen!  They don't deserve it!

I made sugar free peanut butter fudge a few days ago.  Maybe they'd like that.  Hard to figure their appetites for me.   Here I thot it was only my posts they liked to gobble, but it seems they'll eat a lot of people's posts!

Hmm, I had a gremlin revised count of 37 posts for the week a bit ago.  I have done 4 posts in this topic itself and my post count is now 38 (for now).  That math no addy up to me.

When does a week end and a new count begin?  Or does it roll along as a last 7 days sort of thing?  I have not looked at my post count..... hmmmm

GFinDC Veteran

Hi Karen,

I think they usually start over on Sunday, but not sure.  It seems this past week they didn't start over until Wednesday or Thursday.  But now the counts seem to be back to a week ago numbers.

The counts are easy to see at the bottom right side of the main forum view.  Under the online members listing.  As of now, 5:57 am Monday morning. I have 5 posts for the week again.  The numbers seem to go haywire really frequently.

Actually, it seems right now that number is popular contributors.  I think it rotates to post count sometimes though.  Or maybe not.  not sure what it does since it varies so much.  (Head scratching emoji here)

GFinDC Veteran

Now I can't edit posts.  The edit window come up but there i no text in it to edit.  Makes it hard to be fumble fingers typist in secret.

We're working on fixing some issue with a recent update. Any moderator functions that are not working please discuss in the moderator thread.

The count is a weekly count, and it isn't update instantly. Are posts really disappearing? I don't think any are being deleted, but do let me know if I am wrong.

Scott Adams Grand Master

So do most of you think posts are disappearing because of the "Top Posters" count not being accurate? That count is updated by a cron daily, so it isn't in real time. If you don't see the count go up directly after you post it does not mean your post has disappeared.

Has anyone posted and then seen their post get removed or deleted? If so, is it possible there was an Internet issue? Did you actually see it posted on the forum, and then notice that it was gone?

I don't look at the post count thing.  I just have posted a few times and hit "submit" and it never comes over.  I would think it was my internet except it doesn't happen in other places

Scott Adams Grand Master

Ok, so to clarify, you never saw the post make it to this forum, and then disappear...right? In other words, you submitted it, but it never made it here.

I am just trying to understand what people are experiencing. Seeing a post show up here, and then later vanish is very different from submitting a post, and never seeing it appear, which is generally an Internet or possible server issue.

People, other than me,  do complain about this in posts - saying they just posted a long response and it never showed up.

Scott Adams Grand Master

Ok, so the issue is that sometimes posts don't appear after they are submitted...and not that they disappear after they have been posted and viewed on the forum. I will report this to the software makers.

GFinDC Veteran

Hi Scott,

The counters are somewhat random it seems to me.  One login and they will say 10, next login they will say 8.  Just as an example.  That seems like a problem, but maybe it's not.

Last night I tried to edit a post and the edit box came up but it was blank.  That's not supposed to happen IMHO.  So maybe the edit function has a bug?  I suppose if that's the problem area, it could also affect posting.

The fun never stops right? :)

Hmm, so just now I clicked edit on this post and it did work, and brought up the post for editing.  So I added this nifty comment.  In case you are wondering the stars above and below the comment are what makes it nifty.

I have not had the problem of writing a post & then clicking submit & the post never showing up in the forums however, I have had, in the past ?3? days where I write a post, click submit & nothing happens. I have to click on submit usually 3 times before it actually works. If people are writing posts & click submit but don't watch closely to make sure it actually submits & go zipping off to do another post assuming their previous post will submit then they might think posts are going missing.

Scott Adams Grand Master

All bugs reported here should now be fixed...please let me know. As far as the counter goes, again, it is not a live counter and updates via a cron job.

Welcome to the forum, @catsrlife! Celiac disease can be diagnosed without committing to a full-blown "gluten challenge" if you get a skin biopsy done during an active outbreak of dermatitis herpetiformis, assuming that is what is causing the rash. There is no other known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis so it is definitive for celiac disease. You would need to find a dermatologist who is familiar with doing the biopsy correctly, however. The samples need to be taken next to the pustules, not on them . . . a mistake many dermatologists make when biopsying for dermatitis herpetiformis.

You state in an earlier post that you don't have celiac disease. Here in this post you state you will "be doing another test". What will this test be looking for? What kind of celiac disease testing have you had done? If you have used a Entero Labs it sounds like you have had stool testing done for celiac disease which is not widely accepted as a valid celiac disease diagnostic testing method. Have you had blood antibody testing for celiac disease done and do you realize that for antibody testing to be valid you must have been eating generous amounts of gluten for a period of weeks/months?
    • Gigi2025
No, I've not been diagnosed as celiac.  Despite Entero Labs being relocated to Switzerland/Greece, I'll be doing another test. After eating wheat products in Greece for 4 weeks, there wasn't any reaction.  However, avoiding it here in the states.   Thanks everyone for your responses.

Thank you @JulieRe so much for sharing this extra information. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better and I hope it keeps moving in that direction. I feel I'm having so many lightbulb moments on this forum just interacting with others who have this condition. I also was diagnosed with gastric reflux maybe about 10 years ago. I was prescribed ranitidine for it several years back, which was working to reduce my gastric reflux symptoms but then the FDA took ranitidine off the shelves so I stopped taking it. I had a lot of ups and downs healthwise in and around that time (I suddenly gained 20 pounds, blood pressure went up, depression got worse, and I was diagnosed with OSA). At the time I attributed my change in symptoms to me taking on a new stressful job and didn't think much else about it. They did give me a replacement gastric reflux drug since ranitidine was off the shelves, but when I went on the CPAP for my OSA, the CPAP seemed to correct the gastric reflux problem so I haven't been on any gastric reflux drug treatment for years although I still do have to use a CPAP for my OSA. Anyway that's a long story but just to say… I always feel like I've had a sensitive stomach and had migraines my whole life (which I'm now attributing to having celiac and not knowing it) but I feel my health took a turn for much worse around 2019-2020 (and this decline started before I caught covid for the first time). So I am now wondering based on what you said, if that ranitidine i took could have contributed to the yeast overgrowth, and that the problem has just been worsening ever since. I have distinctly felt that I am dealing with something more than just stress and battling a more fundamental disease process here. I've basically been in and out of different doctor specialties for the past 5 years trying to figure out what's wrong with me. Finally being diagnosed with celiac one year ago, I thought I finally had THE answer but now as I'm still sick, I think it's one of a few answers and that maybe yeast overgrowth is another answer. For me as well, my vitamin deficiencies have persisted even after I went gluten-free (and my TTG antibody levels came down to measurably below the detectable limit on my last blood test). So this issue of not absorbing vitamins well is also something our cases have in common. I'm now working with a nutritionist and taking lots of vitamins and supplements to try and remedy that issue. I hope that you continue to see improvements in working with your naturopath on this. Keep us posted!

Back at the end of July I got this rash on both of my forearms. It started on my right and continued to the left. It was on the top and side. The rash has bumps that would pop with clear liquid if scratched. They would almost crystalize and scab up. They reminded me of chicken pox. They would scab for weeks and not heal much at all except for the blood clotting. If the scab was scratched off, it would bleed and bleed until it scabbed up again. The skin has lost its pigment where the scabs are. I figured it was probably either the plant I had trimmed around the 15th or some reaction to the magnesium complex I was taking or an allergic reaction to the asthma meds I was on. I stopped the asthma meds and the magnesium. The rash seemed to get better but when I took the asthma meds it flared up again so I went to the urgent care as my doctor was unavailable. The UC doctor said it probably wasn't the meds and asked about my diet. I said I was strict keto. I usually am, but there is a story around this. I feel amazing on keto. When I eat sugar, wheat, and starchy veggies I feel horrible. Blood sugar goes up, IBS type symptoms, brain fog, etc. But I have a horrible addiction to carbs so I blow it sometimes and after Mom died in 2023, I fell off the wagon. No rashes, just weight gain. I finally went back on keto and then around that time had a piece of pizza (or so, it's hard to stop the carb rush.) So I was strict keto, off and on. She ignored that and prescribed some allergy meds. It didn't go away.  What was happening by then was that the rash was now on my upper elbows, both of them, on the back of my arms. It starts with a very itchy bump, spreads around it and sometimes just burns like crazy and other times just itches. Then it started on the sides of my knees on the oustide, a little bit down the sides of the calves. It's not as bad there as it is on my arms even though it comes and goes (and so does wheat in my diet.) I then got three tiny blisters on each hand, 3 on the insdie of my index finger on the right hand and 3 on the inside of middle finger of my left hand. There is still a little scab there even though it was two weeks ago. No more have appeared on the fingers. But right now the back of the arms above my elbows are starting to itch. At some point I started to think mites from the possum that was sneaking into our house but it's been 3 months and they would be dead already. It wouldn't be from humans because I don't go near any humans although I did take an Uber to the doctor and the bus back. Plus, it's symmetrical. It starts on one side and is almost identical on the other.  I did my DNA with Ancestry and MyHeritage. I don't have the HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8. I do have HLA-DQ2.2. I took the blood test but it was negative. Then again, I don't eat wheat every day. I rarely eat it except for lately when I've been preparing for the blood test if I have to take it again. I don't like to. It makes my joints hurt, gives me brain fog, stomach problems, I sleep in the middle of the day, etc. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow. I hope that she will be more serious about this than the UC doctor was.  So I have no idea. With my luck they'll magically disappear before the doctor appointment. That's what happens with everything.
