Oh wow, if you could get the recipe, you'd be my hero! The snow is great - we got another 8 inches or so today alone! It's wonderful and so peaceful looking outside. Plus, I don't have to go out in the snow. Tomorrow I am going to make chicken soup and try gluten free matzah balls! I'll have to plan a work trip out to Troy area sometime this year though to get some good eats!

Hi - I live in Holt and I have no idea what is going on with my body. Apparently any wheat, gluten, or sugar gives me migraines (new) and am being treated for a system fungal infection after two sinus surgeries, 5 trillion antibiotics, steroids, etc.

I can only eat chicken and rice products and raw vegetables - all this happened in the last 3 months.

So I don't know if I have celiac disease but I find this board very supportive. I purchase a lot of items from Kroger's health section and from the The Better Health Food store in Frandor. I also buy a lot of foods from amazon .com because I am trying to feed my 3 children organically to remove any additional chemicals because the point I am at is very frightening.

You could try www.unitedbuyingclubs.com to see if there is a co-op in your area. There are a lot of gluten and organic items. It saves about 20% on the items but you order by the case.

I am in Michigan and newly diagnosed... I live in Ypsilanti.

I'll be in Ypsilanti, MI in a few weeks for a gymnastics competition at EMU... I'll be travelling with my team, any advice for eating gluten-free in the area would be appreciated!

It's been a green Christmas, sorry no snow to share (although normally I'd love to get rid of it!!). Yesterday we played at the park with just light jackets on, it must have been 50 and sunny out!

Sure thing about the recipe, Becky. They're definitely NOT matzah balls, but I had some chicken soup this morning for breakfast and it wasn't bad. They definitely weren't my Bubbeh's matzah balls! As for sharing the snow, believe it or not, I read on our local NBC affiliate website that there is some woman auctioning off snow on ebay!. Here's to a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year to everyone!

Matzah balls (taken from Celiac. com's recipe area)

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons rendered chicken fat (*you can use plain oil, but it's not nearly as good. I think Empire Kosher rendered chicken fat is sold pre-frozen in tubs.) I tried to make homemade schmaltz (chicken fat) from the chicken from the soup!

4 eggs

1 teaspoon salt

Royal Oak, MI - diagnosed with celiac 1 month ago. I feel great since the diet change but still going through some trial and error with products that claim to be under 20ppm.

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
