Dental Floss

Any one ever heard of buying gluten free dental floss (or researching it)?  I was just thinking the other day about things I put in my mouth and that is one of them! I don't get a lot of quick symptoms (most of mine are arthritis/anemia) so it would be difficult to know if I was getting glutened or why

Any thoughts?

Because of my many dental issues due to Celiac and Sjogren's, I am an avid flosser.  What I learned is that even the flavored dental floss is perfectly safe for us.  The only issue would be flavorings used like the mint floss, of which I use every day. Flavorings can but rarely do contain gluten.  According to Celiac Disease experts, chances of there being gluten in dental floss flavorings is almost nil.  So, I use the flavored ones and in 12 years, never had any issues at all.  I hope this helps!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
