Gluten & Anxiety?

DH and anxiety? Does anybody have any thoughts or knowledge on a relationship between increase in anxiety/phobias and gluten? I'm only just into the diagnosis stage yet but I've upped my gluten in take x 10 the past few months leading up to my blood tests today and my anxiety (to be precise cleithrophobia) has been through the roof. It's lingered on and off in the background for years but I've never felt so close to panic attacks etc as I've done lately. Might be completely unrelated? I've also broken out in painful cystic acne, few on cheek and chin. ??

I FINALLY had my blood tests today for coeliac and thyroid (nurse was unable to tell me what panels the Dr had asked for). Results follow up appointment next week.  I had a mini elbow breakout this past week. As per my previous posts last month, I've been getting elbow bumps for 10 yrs but I've never had an outbreak so close to one ending before.  Pictures of latest minisode below. As always, thoughts and expertise from you guys is much appreciated.

Damaged villi can lead to less absorption of B-vitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, etc....look up deficiency symptoms of these you will start seeing matches. In some people we also have our immune systems attack our nervous system causing confusion, brain fog, and brain damage refereed to as gluten ataxia....there have been studies that found that celiacs with this end up with lesions in their brain matter from the attacks.

Yep, anxiety is one of the most reported symptoms.

Gluten causes me anxiety as well as depression, brain fog etc.

This paper outlines some of the ways that gluten impacts on mental health: Open Original Shared Link

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
