Did you mean to post an image here? Please try again because it did not post.

I tried but I don’t know how to make the photo smaller.

Scott Adams Grand Master

Please try again, I made a setting change that I hope will help. It needs to be under 2 megabytes.

If that does not work, you can shrink it here for free:

I made it 1.1 but it still won’t post.

Is there a restriction based on how many posts a person needs to make before uploading pics?

I am not sure.  I have tried to post the photo several times and even used the shrinking app.  I am going back to my derm on Friday.  I saw him about 3 weeks ago and he said it was folliculitis (on my shins bilaterally) but he did not even address the fact that I have a rash on my elbows and forearms (bilaterally as well) and it is now on my shoulders and upper back.  Although, this is not nearly as miserable as the rash present on my shins.  I am going back armed with photos and I am going to ask for a punch biopsy and a script for dapsone...before I go crazy.  This has been going on since December.  I had this rash around 7 years ago as well, it eventually resolved itself.  It was terrible but nothing compares to the intensity of the itch that I am dealing with on my legs.  Which, incidentally, appeared after I starting eating this vegetable protein bowl that contains barley and wheat as well as a delightful soy sauce.....

I am sorry you were unable to post your photos, but most DH members will tell you that a visual is really not effective in diagnosing DH.  Make sure you take information on exactly how to biopsy (next to a lesion) as shown here:

https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease/related-conditions/dermatitis-herpetiformis/

Take the time to browse through the DH section of the forum for tips.   Know that most with DH must be super strict with their diet.   Consider getting the celiac blood test as well.

I hope you feel better soon.  DH is awful!

I'm also sorry you could not post...there should not be any restriction other than file size under 2MB. Do you recall the error you saw?

Also, the latest research on DH can be found here:

Should not be a problem except for the most sensitive celiacs. The amount of gluten that would get in the air from cooking alone has got to be miniscule. I would be more concerned about cross contamination happening in other ways in a living environment where others are preparing and consuming gluten-containing foods. Thinks like shared cooking surfaces and countertops. And what about that toaster you mentioned?

Hello, @NCalvo822, Blood tests for Celiac Disease test for antibodies our bodies make in response to gluten exposure.  These Tg IgA 2 antibodies mistakenly attack our own bodies, causing problems in organs and tissues other than just the digestive tract.  Joints can ache, thyroid problems or the pancreas can develop.  Ataxia is just one of over two hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Some people with Celiac Disease also make tTg IgA 6 antibodies in response to gluten exposure.  The tTg IgA 6 antibodies attack the brain, causing ataxia.  These tTg IgA 6 antibodies are also found in people with Parkinson's disease, though they may not have Celiac Disease.  First degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of those diagnosed with Celiac should be tested as well.  Celiac is genetic.  Your mom and sister should be tested for Celiac, too!   Definitely a good idea to keep to a gluten free diet.

@Rebeccaj,  When you smell toast or pasta cooking, that means that particles of that food are floating around in the air.  Airborne gluten can then be inhaled and swallowed, meaning the food particles get into your digestive tract.   If you're careful to avoid gluten and are still having symptoms, those symptoms could be caused by vitamin deficiencies.

ok thanks for your advice. But my question was what happens when someone you know in a house is cooking pasta or toast that's flour  Airbourne without eating.?

Do discuss this recent article with your doctors.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is important to intestinal health.  Thiamine deficiency can occur in Celiac Disease due to malabsorption.  Supplementing with a B Complex, Benfotiamine, and Vitamin D can help symptoms.   Thiamine deficiency aggravates experimental colitis in mice by promoting glycolytic reprogramming in macrophages https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39890689/#:~:text=Our mechanistic study revealed that, necessary to protect against colitis. "Conclusion and implications: Our study provides evidence linking thiamine deficiency with proinflammatory macrophage activation and colitis aggravation, suggesting that monitoring thiamine status and adjusting thiamine intake is necessary to protect against colitis."
