Frustrated DH

Metoo

Is anyone super sensitive to cross contamination and iodine?  About two weeks ago I believe I had some cross contamination....product made on same equipment as wheat, or when I sat down at a break table with crumbs with my computer....and I had a small not bad breakout.

Then last week for the first time in 1.5 years I decided to eat salmon, now I have a full blown large DH breakout.

I am just super frustrated.  We are supposed to go on a cruise this year and honestly I am afraid to travel I break out even when I know what my food is!

Metoo,

This old thread might help you.

The medical term for itching is pruritus ....in some people taking Niacin will let your Histamine reserves to flush out of the skin in a few days thus helping your rash/itching.

It would take longer to help lesions but the fact it could help at all might be worth trying.

Niacin (especially) on an emptying will cause intense flushing (in high doses) 20 to 30 minutes or less after taking it...so most people take it with meals.

Once the flushing goes away. ... over a few days of this (after taken Niacin 2/day to 3/day) the itching should improve.

I posted this old research I came across that studied this affect but nobody seemed to notice.

Here is the study. I like to post the research so people can read themselves and then make a decision with their doctors what is best for them. . .but some of the people in the "wits end" thread like tracym007 and Knitty Kitty used Niacin to helping their DH from itching madly. .. and this research explains why.

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advice.

"Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things” this included.

Let us know if helps . .. so other people can be helped too!  Like the next person in line who comes across this thread ...still looking for help!

I have to attend a school play, but I will respond to you later or tomorrow.  I can at least help you with the cruise!  I have been on a few and have not had a gluten exposure.

Yes, I have to watch my exposure to iodine like a hawk! I seem so sensitive to it. When I go over my threshold (& that threshold is pretty low) then I know it for sure!

So I do not have to repeat myself, here is an old link about my personal cruise tips:

In your case, avoid fish or other foods that have a lot of iodine.

While some people think cruises are all about the food, we like to think they are an opportunity to travel without having to pack and unpack your suitcase every single day.  They are great for multiple generations which is the main reason we go on cruises.  Easy to please everyone.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
