I'm sorry to be asking so much. I'm having trouble with my doctors as far as getting in.

Before you went gluten free did you feel sick all of the time or just when you ate gluten? I never know what is going to bother me. It is to the point where my stomach hurts all of the time. I'm just really depressed right now I would just love to know what is wrong with me.

I'm holding of on the enterolab I think until the 9th when I go to my GI. I want to know what she has to say before I spend the money. If she isn't difinitive I'll probably order the kit.

Just a little info. I had my gallbladder out in 97. I've tried Questran. Bentyl , Nulev, finally found relief with Librax. I had a normal colonoscopy. I've had diarrhea and pain about two inches above my navel for 6 months. It goes from mild to doubling me over to the point where I've had to take Tylenol #3. All of my blood work came back normal. So who knows?

Thanks

Hi--feel free to ask all the questions you want :) . It is common to feel sick all or most of the time before a Dx or going gluten-free. Although some Celiacs get no GI symptoms, I do, and before gluten-free, I never knew when I was going to get sick, and I didn't associate it with any particular foods at the time. (I had no idea about gluten--had never heard of Celiac until shortly before my Dx, although I had been sick for many years). Good luck at the dr. and keep us posted!

I agree, and you should note that the AVERAGE time to diagnose from onset of symptons, in the US is TEN YEARS. (source Celiac.com). Most ppl feel sick most of that time. Sucks :(

I used to feel sick all the time. I was reading this site wondering what it was like to "get glutened' because I never felt good and didn't realize that things could be any different. Now when I get glutened I say "I feel like I used to feel all the time." My stomach/intestines still hurt when I ate safe food in the beginning, but not as bad as when I ate gluten. I'm guessing that everything is so irritated that it takes a while to heal and start to feel much better.

I always felt sick before my diagnosis. I had constant stomach pain and other GI symptoms for about a year before I was diagnosed. It probably took a good 3-4 months before I began feeling better. Each day got a little better and a little easier on the gluten-free diet.

I hope that your doctor's appointment goes well and that you discover the root of your pain soon. This board helped me a lot and most of what I have learned about celiac disease comes from what different members have shared about their experiences. Good luck.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
