Well, I know I posted about formula before but lately we have been pretty much exclusively breast feeding. Maddie was diagnosed with Reflux at 3 weeks and then at around 4 months it started to get better. Well now it seems to be getting worse. She has had some really rough nights. She is back on Zantac now and we go to the doctor again this week. But anyone had the reflux get worse again?

Wish I could help, but others will come soon.

Hi! My son was diagnosed with reflux and I was told that he would outgrow it by a year. Well, he didn't. He got worse. He is now 17 mos and is in the process of going gluten free for good. They tried him on prevacid, zantac and were considering surgery. A friend of mine who has celiac kept urging me to get him tested. I am glad I listened to her. Although the tests came back negative, I tried him gluten free for 2 weeks and his asthma and reflux went away completely (along with many other issues). He is on day 10 back on gluten for his EGD scheduled for Friday and everything came back by day 3. I know this probably wasnt too helpful for your situation, but yes, my son's did get worse. Are you gluten free? Your baby may be getting gluten from you? Thats the only thing I can think of. My son was 100% better when he was gluten free.

Good luck! Keep pushing the doctors. A mother really does know best. I had to go through 4 doctors before I finally found one who would listen to me and test my son.

kayjay-----for some reason reflux gets worse frome 4-6 months. i don't exactly know why, but i have heard it said alot on the infant reflux board. IMHO, zantac is worthless. it did nothing for my baby. most babies with reflux do better on a PPI---prevacid seems to be what works the best. my baby ended up with an ulcerated esophagus at 8 months old----and she was on prevacid and carafate. she ended up having surgery to stop her reflux.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I am 100% gluten free.

We wanted the prevcid but the pharmacy doesn't have the liquid kind. I know her GI doctor was going to try axid. We see him next week so maybe he will give us some of that. I feel like the doctors are doing all they can right now. Her ped. even called the other day to see how she was feeling and talked to me for 15 mins. I thought that was nice. Ijust hate seeing her in all this pain.

I was told that it starts to get better at 4 months. Chistine how did they know your baby had an ulcerative esphogas? What were the symptoms of that it sounds horrible. Is she better now?

My oldest had reflux and at about a year, he outgrew the problem. We even tried him on solids a little early but that didn't help - it just came up thicker (sorry for the yuck). However, I know we were lucky - I know many do not.

He tested negative for celiac disease at age 14 but since birth cannot tolerate nitrates or cinnamon (I had to give up while I was breastfeeding).

My son was diagnosed with reflux at one year of age, but the diagnosis was changed to "cyclical vomitting" brought on by celiac disease within three months. I don't know if this has anything to do with your situation, but thought I would tell you. He was on several meds. for reflux, but with the diagnosis change, they took him off.

kayjay---sylvia was failure to thrive, so they did a ph probe and an endoscopy with biopsies. i really had no idea how bad her reflux was until i got the test results. she was refluxing almost 25% of the time and had several prolonged episodes of reflux----one lasted 44 minutes while she was asleep. i could watch the monitor and see when she was refluxing, and she didn't even flinch. she must have become somewhat acustomed to pain. the doctor said it was all she had ever known. after she had her surgery she continued to be fussy---turns out she had esophageal thrush. we got that cleared up, but she continued to have trouble gaining weight. turns out she had developed obstructive sleep apnea and she also had an inguinal hernia. once she had her tonsils and adenoids removed and her hernia repaired, she has improved dramatically.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
