Gluten In Spices?

Hi, I notice that spices are on the banned list of foods, but what about spices that are ingredients in other foods? Are those safe? Thanks!

There are all sorts of spices that are gluten-free. McCormicks' pure spices - NOT THE BLENDS are gluten-free, and just check labels and call companies, i know i have a ton of spices, but they're mostly from the UK so i'm not too sure about US spices.

yep, in the US, the vast majority of pure spices I've come across are gluten free, but not all spice blends are - particularly packaged things like "taco seasoning", and the like. in prepared ingredients, "spices" are something that will cause me to not buy the item and call the company, since they _could_ have gluten in them, but very well may not.

Spices in foods and spice blends are red flags that you have to check on. But as already said regular single spices are pretty much without exception gluten-free. And with McCormick, you can tell if their blends have gluten just by reading the ingredients.

Thanks! Spices are pretty unavoidable in most packaged foods ... it's looking more and more like I'll have to make most of my own food.

You can always check with the company. Many times they ARE gluten free, but just use that label to protect their recipe. But I'm all for cooking from scratch! Food is healthier and tastes better that way! And it's fun!

So does that mean that McCormick's red curry blend is gluten-free???? On my product list it specifically says not the curry blend. HOwever, I have called McCormick, and they said that it does not have gluten. I have been using it, but I am still unsure. I am new at this, and still have reactions to things that I havn't quite put my finger on yet. Does anyone know for sure?????

If McCormick says it doesn't have gluten I'd most certainly believe them over whatever list it is that you have.

I called them in December, they told me" they were gluten-free and produced on a gluten-free line, BUT, in the new year this may change" You might want to call on this again. In my store, I have noticed new labels on thier spice jars, so maybe it has changed. Keep in mind I am from Canada and do not know if what they told me applies to U.S.

There are recipes for making your own curry spice, try an Indian Cookbook from the library. Also Mrs Dash is gluten free. Believe me I am careful, I got hit by gluten once in chili powder. Shirley

      Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
