New diagnosis for my 3 year old

Hello, my son is 3 and recently diagnosed with celiac. I have been researching, purchased books, and checking many labels. I never thought I would need to worry about fresh and frozen meat. I recently found out about the possibility of cross contamination even though meat is naturally gluten free. I haven’t found any fresh meat labeled gluten free. I have tried to research the name brands to find out and I’m not having much luck. How do I know if fresh meats are gluten free and haven’t had cross contamination?

Welcome to the forum, @Hannaaddison!

I think you are overthinking this. Any cross contamination from fresh meat would be highly unlikely and if present at all would likely be so small as to not cause a reaction in all but the very smallest subset of supersensitive celiacs. And I don't think you know yet that your 3 year old fits into that category. Relax, momma! Otherwise your son will only be eating things that have peels on them.

I agree, and the only meats you might need to worry about would be processed ones like lunch meats, salami, etc., that my have fillers in them which contain gluten. Fresh meats that are not processed with added ingredients should be safe.

      Thanks for sharing this! Have you started taking the Amneal? I'm curious how it's going for you. My pharmacy gave me the option of Accord, Macleod or Amneal. I didn't realize that Amneal was formerly Lannett, or I might have chosen that one. However, I did read some anecdotal reports that some people had side effects with Amneal, so I chose Accord. I have been taking it for 3-4 weeks and the past 10 days I have developed extreme fatigue/sluggishness, joint pain and some brain fog. I don't know if it is the new levo med, but nothing else has changed. Has anyone else taken Accord levo? Any issues? It seems to fall into the "no gluten ingredients, but we can't guarantee 100%, but it's likely safe category." I'm wondering if it is worth switching to Amneal or at least getting my thyroid levels checked. If the med is causing my symptoms, I'm guessing it's not because of gluten but maybe the potency is different from Mylan and I need different dosing. Accord was recalled for lower potency, but my pharmacist said the pills I have were not part of that lot.
