Dear Susie,

It is nice to hear from you! I was wondering where the heck you went! I knew you went to the beach. I was worried you got sucked into an alternate universe Rachelville.

Friendship is forever! We are connected! I LOVE YOU MAN! HUGS!

"But u still can't have my BudLight!" or Mojito!!

LMAO "alternate universe R'ville"!!

Where the Green Kryptonite is gluten, the Red Kryptonite is yeast, and alien babies grow up to be Emporer! :o:lol:

Dear tom,

Flutes are something that people said are easy to play. I never got the chance to even try one. I did get to try to play a tuba once! That sure was a site! I was shorter then than I am now!

My guitar is a nice one. My brother bought it for me. It deserves to be played! Whether or not playing it well without lessons is possible, it is difficult to say. I play the piano and keyboard by ear alright. People always assume I had lessons, but did not.

I dunno who could say flute is easy. It was hardest for me of the "seconds" (instr after sax).

Guitar "deserves to be played", yes yes YES!

As far as playing it "well" w/out lessons, who knows, but sounding good and enjoying it is a lock if it's in tune.

I'd figure if u can play piano by ear, the tuning shouldn't be hard.

I bet there are other unused guitars besides yours in R'ville!!

Don't fret about playing anything fancy (hehe), just learn a couple chord positions/fingerings and get used to switching betw them w/out major gaps in the strumming.

BTW, G to C and back is easier w/ the G fingering that's probably 2nd one shown, which includes the pinky.

Makes it so the other fingers stay at same frets, just shifting to adjacent strings.

(Hey!! That *did* make sense didn't it!!)?

Does Jin have a chord fingering chart?

. . . . You want to hear something truly terrible? I kept looking at that picture in your avatar, lusting over that cake! Here goes that stupid food lust again!

I apologize if that sounds insensitive. I am a hungry woman! Sorry about that!

 Don't worry about sounding insensitive to ME!! I know u better than that.

And it *really* takes a lot to knock the grin off MY mug! :P:lol:

LMAO at cake lust!! It never came to mind for me. Not even standing in front of it in-person last year.

Too bad the pic on the cake was too small to see. It was a great pic, up at Independence Mine which was once a very productive gold mine.

Dear Alison,

Is that thing still crawling around in the bag? Did it die? What are you planning to do with it? Have you decided? . . . .

Papillon would make soup!!!!!

(Kill that food lust any, Jin?) :P

Dear Everybody,

Well, today I got some sad news. Dad got fired! :o The company he worked for had gotten into debt with another company. They owed $7 Million! Naturally, there were cutbacks. Dad was one of them.

Ok enough LOL-ing. :(

Bah! What's $7mil betw friends?

I'll predict he'll find a good or better job sooner than he expects!

(Am I Optimist Spice or WHAT!!?)

(I even got another Powerball shot today, tho it's last until jackpot to $200mil or so. C'monnnnnnnnnnn Rachelville Health Fund! )

[EDIT]

P.S. Re: guitar - I was thinking of the greatest place for gluten-free guitar camp!!

If I remember correctly, and I'll bet I do, there were some nice big porches at these cabins. For guitars, it's hard to beat a big porch in a glorious setting.

Open Original Shared Link

My brother Pat had a nice porch at his remote hunting cabin, and I think it was my prompting & comments on what a great spot for guitar pickin' that got him to start learning a couple yrs ago.

He'd had minimal musical training (trumpet in grade school) but was doing great on guitar w/out lessons.

I used to imagine us as old men playing guitars together during late summer dusk (sun sets there at maybe 1am in summer!!) on that lake-facing porch. :)

Hehe maybe dusk is the wrong word if it's not until midnight.

Back to Ripplewood - either sidekick doesn't see the prices or they're not listed. BUT . .. .. .in the late 80s/early 90s, we'd get a cabin w/ full kitchen and sleeping room for 6-8, for just $70 a night!!

Avoiding starting a story w/ "hey [the texture of] that brownie reminds me of when I ate . . ." would I'm sure be greatly appreciated by your dining partners.

...

I haven't used the *scatological warning* much (ever?) but it would too weird to tell RL friends that it's amazing to find I'm getting used to regular normal morning bm's, something I hadn't experienced in probably 15-17 yrs!! :)

Yeah, my friends love me, but I don't think they'd stand for scat talk.

Congratulations on your normal mornings.

P.S. I hope this doesn't turn into a double-post, but while waiting for the 'post submit' I saw the Dead Like Me reference!!!

Switched immed to my ch50 and there it is!

I almost mentioned it on another recent day when they also did it all day.

Donna!!!!! I LOVE that show!

Wish it had more than 2 seasons.

Oh booo! Ep on now is last of the day.

Saw the episode the other day w/ the cabin and the Last Thoughts data entry at Happy Time.

Soooooo poignant on both substories.

Daisy . . . . Daisy Adair's last thought . . . . Arrgh can't remember the phrasing.

"Why has no one ever loved me" maybe?

What a show. Is poignancy underappreciated?

They had another marathon on Sunday I think...so I got to watch maybe a whole season between the two marathons, lol. Quite quirky but fun.

That's good that you're feeling better now--I'm glad you stayed home and rested. I sort of remember "Dead Like Me"--it sounds familiar.

Thanks, me too, lol. I'd heard of that show before but never knew I got the Sci-Fi channel until a few months ago when hitting a wrong button combo on my remote, lol. It landed on a station that I actually got, but didn't know I got...then I started hunting for more. It was exciting for this girl who only gets the "broadcast" channel part of the cable service...that's the one that's so cheap they won't tell you about it unless you ask specifically for it. Basically you get the major network channels and that's it.

I'm also glad you stayed home Donna. Much needed rest for you.

Yes, and I think it helped me calm my body enough so that I actually slept really well last night. I think I just needed a break from the stress and staying on the couch the majority of the day helped do that. :P

Or is it just the nerve irritated from replacing that filling today? I hope it's the latter :( . At least I'll know better for the next fillings coming up.

I see that you answered your own question, but yes mine were a little sensitive, but not really for long though...not even a week or two. My teeth hurt sooooo much from all the amalgam/crowns on a daily basis that it felt like a totally new mouth after mine were done. I have one spot that hurts to chew and I think that must be the tooth that he said needed a crown...he didn't want to do it at that time because he knew I was worried about finances. I think next year I'll have it done assuming I can hold out that long, lol.

Hello all...just had to respond after reading some nice comments about myself on here 3 pages back. Just yesterday I finally got back on celiac.com, my passwaord gets kicked out..hoping it stays in this time. Also sorry to get back in time for the late 7/4/07 fireworks...hope everything gets worked out and all the posters stay here...we all learn from Rachel's research and hope she stays on here.

Evie!!!! So very good to see you and it sounds like you are doing well! Congratulations on your anniversary, that is quite an accomplishment!!!!

I am so sorry you had such a rough day! Shaking like that is awful. My blood sugar does that to me. It is scary! You cannot hold a pen, type, or anything else. They really need to set up your fax so you can work from home when possible.

Yep, although it didn't really feel like low blood sugar...it was very strange. My whole body was shaking, whereas when I get low blood sugar is just kind of jittery feeling. Maybe my body is changing though...could have been blood sugar, but don't know for sure.

jerseyangel Proficient

Donna--A good night's sleep :D Bet that did you a world of good! Glad to see you doing better today.

Yea--channels....I plan to scale down when we move. We have more channels that we never watch--including HBO. We loved The Sopranos, but now that it's gone, we just don't watch it. Plus, we have satellite on 5 TV's  --and there are only 3 people living here

Yep, my new plan is to simplify

Mornin' Andrea :)

Morning to you! Or should I say Good Afternoon to you since it is officially 12 your time? :P

Yes, and I think it helped me calm my body enough so that I actually slept really well last night. I think I just needed a break from the stress and staying on the couch the majority of the day helped do that. :P

Yay! Hopefully the rest of the week at work won't be too bad. :)

Yep, my new plan is to simplify

Very good plan. :)

Talitha decided to eat some Enjoy Life Granola yesterday (lunch time) and upset her stomach. Late afternoon a church member stopped by (she always come by if she's going down to Portland) bearing much fruit (which was much needed). Talitha had some cherries. She didn't test bad with those on the ELISA but it is one of the compounds in the food that is on a list from the ASYRA testing. She still eats a lot of things on that list, but at least we have an idea what to look for when she has troubles......at least until we can do the treatment for foods. Her lips and the skin around her lips bothered her really bad.

Got a note from the doctor yesterday. She's not to happy that her staff dropped the ball on canceling appointments as she let them know early enough to call us before we left.

Seth has been having real rough nights lately and I have no idea why. He is coming in with a tooth though so maybe that's part of it. Translates to a tired me. He woke up this morning around 8:30 and then went back to sleep.....still sleeping.

AndreaB Contributor

Ugh, just looked at the forecast......supposed to be 100 here today. For those of you not familiar with Western Washington, that is highly unusual. We are usually in the 70's or 80's. Not too many 90's days. Yesterday was 95 or so. Mitch was saying on the thermometer on the truck that it was 100 or just above, when he was sitting still it registered 110.

We have air con, thankfully. Not a lot of places out here do though. That, aside from nice landlords is why we will be here awhile. The location is not the greatest, as the road is busy that we are on.

re: Rinne - I think the last post we saw she was on her 4th day of anti-candida diet.

Hi Rinne!!! <tom waves> Hope you're doing better than your absence indicates. :(

Tom, you asked a question about candida being caused by other things than heavy metals. Here's a great paper written by my acupuncturist about leaky gut syndrome. It explains some of the other things that cause leaky gut syndrome, like antibiotics and NSAIDs. I think both of these were problems for me.

Open Original Shared Link

Claire

I wasn't so much asking the question as tossing an alternate theory into the mix - that other things DO cause candida.

In my own case, I haven't seen the slightest inkling that heavy-metals toxicity played a role.

I was researching like crazy starting may29 '05, when I found it was, at the time, my main problem.

But I hadn't had antibiotics in a very long time (oops or did I once?). Hmmmm well not much in decades that's for sure.

That sounds like one great acupuncturist u have!!

I am quite sure my leaky-gut was from being in the gluteny celiac battleground for so long.

I missed a chance to go gluten-free about 4-5 yrs before I actually did.

Sure would've avoided a lot of misery if I had.

Dang sidekick won't do PDFs by link, tho I've seen them as email attachments. Go figure.

Over last couple of years, I had some shaking episodes, but pretty rare. Never was able to correlate it to anything or get any theory at all on causation. (And I do love thinkin' up theories. Whether right or wrong, I can usually at least come UP w/ a couple)

I think my shakes may not have been as "whole body" as yours.

Sitting down for a while and sometimes eating would make it go away. Maybe a blood sugar thing, except that in other brief testing that was good.

Sure hope that's gone for good for me AND for you. :)

dlp252 Apprentice
Yep, my new plan is to simplify

Yeah, I keep thinking I'm going to do this with many areas of my life. :P Do you know that for a period of 2 years I even CANCELLED my cable completely...now without cable I get NO reception at all, none, so basically I didn't watch TV for 2 years. Even now I don't watch a lot of "regular" TV...mostly just Discovery Channel, Sci-Fi channel (now that I've found it, lol) and the Travel Channel. Kind of a sad little TV viewing life isn't it. :P

Got a note from the doctor yesterday. She's not to happy that her staff dropped the ball on canceling appointments as she let them know early enough to call us before we left.

Aw, sorry T's having some issues. And, sorry about the little guy too! And, sorry that makes for a tired Andrea, :P I'm really happy that the doc is aware that the staff dropped the ball. IMHO, it's no small thing that you had to drive 5+ hours for nothing...gas is soooo expensive these days.

Stay cool in your heat wave...do you pay your own utilities? It's been so long since I rented, I can't remember, lol.

Yeah, I hope it's gone for both of us...I don't like that feeling. I honestly didn't think I could drive like that.

Yep, we pay our own utilities.

Gas for us to run up there and back is $40-$45 depending on the gas prices.

Not that it will happen, but I think they should deduct that from your next bill.

What gets me is that doctors will charge us if we cancel late (my gastroenterologist actually charges us if we don't give 48 hours notice) <_< They should be held to the same....

Anyway, sounds like you're exhausted from everything. Hope you all can get some sleep tonight :)

Anyone seen Lisa lately. I thought she had an appointment scheduled for the 12th. I'll pm her just in case she hasn't cancelled it yet.

We will be celebrating our 61st anniversary 7/13/07 and will have a family reunion with my brother and sister and lots of cousins on Sunday here at our Sr Center. Looking forward to that. :) Been a few years since we got together.

Evie, Congratulations on # 61!! My grandparents got to their 60th wedding anniversary. I'm just at #2. I can't imagine 61 years! That's quite an accomplishment!

Well, today I got some sad news. Dad got fired! :o The company he worked for had gotten into debt with another company. They owed $7 Million! Naturally, there were cutbacks. Dad was one of them.

I am worried, because this was the only source of income we have. My health being the way it is, I do not think I could even handle a part-time job. The medication I take knocks me out. Nausea is not something you can deal with constantly. That is on top of feeling like I am going to pass out all the time.

Hey Jin, Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hopefully, he will find a better job soon. I hope you win the lottery or something so that you can start getting some treatment!

Yep, although it didn't really feel like low blood sugar...it was very strange. My whole body was shaking, whereas when I get low blood sugar is just kind of jittery feeling. Maybe my body is changing though...could have been blood sugar, but don't know for sure.

Donna, I wonder if that was a symptom of detoxifying? Body changing? I hope for the better!

Well, I'm still feeling happy about having less silver in my mouth, though the sensitivity thing is annoying. I know, must be patient!! This too shall pass...

Pooping in to say hello. may I say, Jin, you are the sweetest thing!

My herx is over. when I have a herx I have these two songs in my head. One is the Grateful Dead. I think it's called Uncle John's Band. The lines are "The First Days are the hardest days, don't you worry anymore" but I always sing "The first herx is the hardest herx"

And then when it's over I walk around humming some 80's song from Survivor called TheSearch is over only I sing "The herx is over" The song (just looked up the lyrics) was actually quite nice.

here's the lyrics for anyone who cares. It reminds me of me and Dh since I've known him since I was 18 but didn't date him till I was 30. I chaperoned his hs ski trip when I was in college

The Search Is Over - Survivor

How can I convince you

what you see is real

Who am I to blame you

for doubting what you feel

I was always reachin',

you were just a girl I knew

I took for granted the friend I have in you

Can we last forever,

will we fall apart

At times it's so confusing,

the questions of the heart

You followed me through changes,

and patiently you'd wait

Till I came to my senses,

through some miracle of fate

Now the miles stretch out behind me,

loves that I have lost

Broken hearts lie victims of the game

Then good luck,

it finally stuck like lightning from the blue

Every highway's leading me back to you

Now at last I hold you,

now all is said and done

The search has come full circle,

our destinies are one

So if you ever loved me,

show me that you give a damn

You'll know for certain the man I really am

I was living for a dream,

loving for a moment

Taking on the world,

that was just my style

When I touched your hand,

I could hear you whisper

The search is over,

love was right before my eyes

Ha ha...anyone who knew this in the 80's is gonna have it stuck in their head now. It actually is a very sentimental song

Good to see others are pooping in (esp Tom with his am bm report :P ) too.

Hey everyone GUESS WHAT?

I GOT MOLDENED AGAIN TODAY! YEAH that makes it about um maybe 10 times this month alone. Rachel how many times you got moldened? If this keeps up I will just be bones. I dont know where it came from I don't know at all. I am so careful about this. I wonder if it was the moldy potatoes my mom had under the kitchen sink?

BUt I didn't eat them. They were thrown away. I also wonder if it was the enyma? Or... who knows, I give up. Is potatoe starch a mold? ITs in my probiotic.

I got my minerals yesterday at the doctor. I got sea minerals they are liquid. They have sulfur, magnesium, carbon, calcium, potassium and such. I also bought some selenium. I got zinc assay too. It is liquid. that's it. Hope I can make it through the day with this diarrhea and gurrgling noise. Man I wish this would stop!

Make sure you only take one at a time. I don't know about potato starch. I wouldn't think it would be moldy, but didn't someone say citric acid was. At this point it seems possible for anything to have mold. <_<

I sent you a pm earlier.......

Oh holy sidewalk griddle it's ^HOT^ !!

They may say it's only 107, but the monsoon is starting so the humidity's not the easy single-digit it's supposed to be!!

And maybe I overextended a bit.

Too many mid-day errands. But one was quite a change!

Last wk dropping off my guitar for repair I saw a Help Wanted sign. Heheh I was only getting some details, but if it were part-time I might be working a music store's sheet music section right now!:blink:

It would've just been for a short time, and mainly just for something semi-fun to do. Not that a little $ wouldn't be nice, but it'd be less than anything I've done since making pizza in college. :)

Lisa!! Grrrr moldenated aGAin!

Hope u feel better soon. :)

Gadzooks! . . . . Survivor!?

I remember one from Rocky whichever, but that's it. Was there a suggestion that I should be glad to not have that melody stuck in my head?

<come 7, come 11, rachelville needs a new health fund!>

(to paraphrase shoe-deprived gamblers everywhere)

Make sure you only take one at a time. I don't know about potato starch. I wouldn't think it would be moldy, but didn't someone say citric acid was. At this point it seems possible for anything to have mold. <_<

The citric acid situation is specifically for that used as an ingredient. Inside of citrus it's fine.

As an ingredient, it's not from fruit. It's manufactured and the process involves mold.

Sometimes, rarely, the ingred list says "naturally derived citric acid", and my guess is that it's probably not produced thru the moldy-manufacturing process - BUT I also don't trust my little theory enough to go TRY any!!

P.S. HI RACHEL!!!!!!!! :)

Hehe well I suppose it meant even less.

If it HAD been PT, I probably would've at least tried to get it.

The hiring guy wasn't in anyway, but it was a fun thought for a while.

:)

P.S. Being outside sucked so much, once I got home I went straight to my Last Minute Flights page.

Yay top3 destinations all came up - rare.

SJ, Portland, Reno. Hmmmmm gotta call sister.

Had a quick LOL at the surprise cities popping up that are as hot as here. <sweat sweat>

Can't it just *know* I need cooler!!!

Oh Lisa- Sorry about the moldening. Could be potato starch? I don't know. If you don't fully air-dry your enema bag, it can get moldy. Are you using distilled water?

The minerals you got from your doc sound good. Just proceed slowly and with caution.

Want some feedback. OK- technically, I am lactose intolerant according to the test. But the test gives you like 10x the amount of lactose you would eat in a day, so uhm...who wouldn't be? So I completely cut dairy out and I noticed no difference. Not even less C. :(

I don't know what to do...it's not like i want a bowl of ice cream but some cheese on things would be good. What do y'all think?

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
