I just wanted to let anyone know who lives in MA that The Wine Shop of Reading now carries Ramapo Valley beer. It is right on Rte. 28 in Reading. I asked if they could start carrying it and they did.

So anyone in the area check it out!!

There is a Legal Seafood at the Burlington Mall...also an Outback in Burlington...

That would be great to meet up for dinner sometime..

Any suggestions??

I'm definitely in -

just tell me when and where -

I don't know about everyone else, but after work is best for me...

I think they have t-shirts with the logo "Gluten-free or Bust!"..perhaps we can purchase those! ;)

I'm in...my schedule sucks but tell me where and when and I'll do everything possible to be there.

I would love to meet some celiac sisters!! It is so hard when you are the only one in the family and in your group of friends that is gluten free. To have everyone at the table be gluten free would be awsome!!

I hope I didn't scare anyone off with my great enthusiasm!!

I am not afraid! :P

Okay so here goes...first gluten-free beer ever is in my hand, and I'm about to take the first sip...

I'm nervous as all hell because I LOVED beer prior to my dx. And I'm not talking Bud Light -

I specifically loved IPA's because of their tasty hops...I see the word "lager" on the Ramapo bottle -

SCARY - never did like lagers...but...here goes...

well, as I suspected it's sweet <_< - especially the aftertaste

I'm not sure how I feel about it...guess I'll have to drink this one and have another just to make sure how I feel!

Alright guys just tell me where to be and when -

France, why don't you tell us what a good time for you is and perhaps we can schedule it for then!

ebrbetty Rising Star

I wish I could get it in my area, would be nice on a hot day and a BBQ :D

Are you drinking on the job over there? ;)

My schedule is pretty free...not much on the agenda during the week after work...

So I am very flexible!

Oh the burlington mall is only 20mins away from me. I would love to come too, anyone has a suggestion for the day or time?

HA! No, No...not sure why I said I posted at 2:30 or whatever, but I was at home and it was near 7.

Although a liquid lunch is not unheard of at times.... :)

How about next Friday, the 12th, after work, say around 6 for those of us that are nearby and others can filter in as they arrive? I really, really hate the Outback - I think their food is dreadful but I can always make do. Someone said there is also a legal Seafoods around? Does everyone like seafood?

I do think we should make reservations, yes? So...let's see what everyone thinks!

Guest BERNESES

I like the Ramapo because it's BEER, but it's a little too sweet. I like amber beers like Red tail and I love Once in a Blue Moon Pumpkin ale, Sierra Nevada. i have to say Bard's Tale was the BEST- not just a good gluten-free beer, but a good beer. Period.

Legal wouold be great. I have $100 in gift certificates to Legal because the one in Peabody screwed me up. But i've never had problems with Burlington so some of dinner is on me! Plus, the malls up here in NH stink so Burlington is always a good excuse for me to go on a Sephora splurge. I'm pretty flexible. Next wweek, Monday night is out because I teach but I think I'm pretty open Tuesday-Thursday. The week after that i'm having my gall bladder out so I'd have to wait until after the 23rd.

Let me know what you guys think? It'd be fun!

Next friday the 12th around 6 should work for me. the Outback is OK but I do have the $100 towards Legal which i would LOVE to share with me celiac sisters. :)

I know I said I was flexible...but I actually have plans Thursday and Friday the 11th and 12th..

Honestly, I am usually at home on my brown couch everynight after work! ;)

If the 12th works for all of you...hopefully we can do this again...

Maybe try to do it once a month!

francelajoie Explorer

OK, so Burlington Legal Seafoods Friday May 12th at 6:00?

Is that good with everybody?

I will make it for sure...just will leave my work (if you want to call it work) early.

Oh I see one can't make it...how about the 19th?

19th works for me!

Ok, you guys are really going to hate me now! I did not want to have to say it, but I have a colonoscopy the morning of the 19th...not that it matters what we say to fellow celiacs when it comes to our health problems! So I won't be in work and won't be able to drive that whole day...

Can we do something the following week? From Berneses post, the 19th will be bad for her as well...

So maybe we can do something on Wed the 24th or Thurs the 25th(that Friday will be the start of Memorial weekend, so prob not a good time for anyone to meet up)...

Or you gals can all meet up on the 12th, as that works for everyone else and then we can try something for the four of us in June...

I might have to reneg that comment about being flexible! ;)

Sorry again for being a pain!

Guest BERNESES

yeah- I'm down from the 17th to the 24th- gall bladder removal. Blech! But you guys go ahead and then we'll make plans for later.

Welcome to the forum, @Trish G! "Gluten free" does not necessarily equate to "no gluten". According to FDA standards it actually means that a food product contains no more than 20ppm of gluten. This is safe for most celiacs but would not be for those who are on the more sensitive end of the spectrum. So, it would depend on the individual celiac and their level of sensitivity to minor amounts of gluten. That's the long and nuanced answer. The short answer is that it is a product derived from wheat and so you can be certain it will contain some residual amounts of gluten. No gluten removal process is 100% effective. So, to be absolutely certain, stay away from it. Have you tried chia seeds? Very high in fiber and quickly turns into a gel when added to water. Make sure you get seeds that are gluten free if you decide to try it.

I was taking Benefiber for my IBS-C before my celiac diagnosis. It does say Gluten Free but lists Wheat Dextrin on the label. I really dont like psyllium fiber, so is there anything else I can take or is the Benefiber really ok for someone with Celiac disease?  Thanks!!!

Abdominal pain and an itchy stomach were the symptoms I asked to see a GI about. Now I’ve learned these other symptoms—that I have but attributed to other issues—could also be related to celiac disease:  fatigue joint pain canker sores numbness or tingling in hands or feet difficulty with coordination anemia headaches neutropenia I never dreamed in a million years she would consider celiac disease. It was a shock to me. It’s definitely not what I went to her for.

@Rejoicephd, I'm not a doctor, but I experienced severe thiamine deficiency.  Your symptoms seem really familiar.  Malabsorption is a real thing that happens with Celiac.  A multivitamin is not going to prevent nor correct nutritional deficiencies.    Doctors do not recognize nutritional deficiency symptoms.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi is not recognized often.  Caused by thiamine deficiency, high dose thiamine supplements or IV administration with other vitamins, minerals and glucose under doctor's care is needed.   Thiamine deficiency is found in anemia.  Thiamine deficiency in the kidneys can result in electrolyte imbalances and cloudy urine.  Thiamine deficiency can cause high blood sugar which can cause cloudy urine.  Dehydration can cause cloudy urine.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.  Discuss the possibility of Gastrointestinal Beriberi with one of your specialists soon!  Just to rule it out.  I'm very concerned.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.   Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/#ref3 From Section 3: "In conclusion, TD limited to the gastrointestinal system may be an overlooked and underdiagnosed cause of the increasingly common gastrointestinal disorders encountered in modern medical settings. Left unattended, it may progress to wet or dry beriberi, most often observed as Wernicke encephalopathy.". . And... Refeeding Syndrome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564513/
