gluten-free Cookbook

Texas Celiac Apprentice

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forum a week ago and am learning so much!!

I am considering buying 2 books. One is a cookbook by Bette Hagman titled Gluten Free Gourmet-Cooks Comfort Foods:Creating Old Favorites With New Flours and the other book is titled Celiac Disease - The Hidden Epidemic by Peter H.R. Green and Rory Jones.

Has anyone heard of these books? Would you recommend them. I want a cookbook so I can learn to cook basically the same foods we have enjoyed that are gluten-free and taste the same.

I have them both, and both are excellent. In my opinion, another "must read" for Celiacs (or anyone, really) is Dangerous Grains.

Thanks Patti,

I was thinking about buying Dangerous Grains as well - recommended by Ms Sillyak.

I have Dangerous Grains on hold @ the library and also saw that they have a couple of Bette Hagman cookbooks too that I want to request.. can you check it out at the library first and then buy?

A cookbook that I rented that has some great recipes and I'll probably buy is "The Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids by Sheri L. Sanderson.

The Incredible Edible Gluten Free Cookbook for Kids is AMAZING!!! Every single thing that I've made from that book tastes EXACTLY like the "real" thing. I'm very impressed. It's the only gluten free cookbook that I've bought, and the only gluten free cookbook I'll ever need. It's great!

I tried some of the recipes in the Bette Hagman book and I wasn't really impressed. It was the first book I bought and I tried to make some bread from her recipe and flour mixture and it was really gross. I like the books by Jax Peters Lowell (Against the Grain and The Gluten Free Bible).

Ditto on the recommendation for Incredible Edible Gluten-Free Food for Kids. It's the first cookbook I bought after my son was diagnosed.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
