Mucous can mean a lot of different things. People with IBS, travelers D, a stomach bug, Ulcerative COlitis, Crohns, and/or Microscopic Colitis. I was dx'd with UC in March of 05 when my GI told me the results of my colonoscopy. RIght after the c scope my doc said everything looked great and I probably had IBS. But then the biopsies came back with slight inflammation of the mucosal layer of the colon. He tagged me with UC. Tried some meds for UC, didnt work and thought they made me worse. THe only med that has made me better is Entocort EC which is a steroid that is highly effective amoung patients with Microscopic colitis and crohns disease. I moved and got a new GI. After looking at all my records for what seemed like an hour he said that he didnt think I had UC, but maybe microscopic colitis, IBS, an infection, or nothing at all.

I took Dr Fine's tests at Enterolab.com ( many people on a MC forum use it and have found great results) which showed I had a gluten and casien intolerance or sensativity; these are fecal tests. I took blood tests for Celiac disease and gluten intolerances but they were negative. THe test also showed I had the two genes needed to be present for celiac disease and at the time I was negative for colitis and crohsn colitis. So that sounds to me like I would need to go Gluten-free Casein-free. I ran these tests by my new GI and he threw them out the window. I like my GI but he is not very open to unconventional tests and treatments. SO I have been Gluten-free Casein-free for about a week now and it is too early to tell if it is helping or not.

Hope some of this helped you in some way.

oh it looks like the mucus has gone away besides for the black specks of what i think is dead mucus my stools are back to a normal heatlhy looking color

candida can cause gluten intolerancy thats why im looking into it

Your genetics cause gluten intolerance. If it is not in your genes you will not develop it.

Lister Rising Star

its not in my genes they already tested for it. But im still sensative to it for some reason. of course i guess the tests could have been wrong. and when i said it can cause gluten intolerancy i ment to say sensativity and it can cause it for all diffrent foods not just gluten

i just wanted to say i feel pretty darn good today :)

i think it may have to do with Enjoy Life bars- i ate one last night and withen 20 minutes my brain fog cleared up for like 2 hours it was really nice though i think the bars are going to be a accuired taste- eveything else from enjoy life is awsome but these bars are very uniqe

Lister is right. Candida can cause gluten intolerance, genes cause celiac. Candida can cause multiple food intolerances, as well as a multitude of other problems. I am looking into this also.

Lister Rising Star

only problem with candidia is that most regular doctors wont even think about it, let alone acknowlage it when you bring it up u usaly have to go to a fungi specialist i forgot what they are called.

as a update because i like to write how im doing, im doing pretty good, this morning was one of the first mornings i have had normal bms. but as the day progressed it turned into C but hey atleast i had some normal thats a start. My head is slightly cleared up with brain fog here and there but not nearly as strong or persistant. My stomic has subsided besides for little spasims here and there, as long as i keep myself fed every 3 hours or so i need to snack on something and then i wont get the growls or poping, i am having random sharp pains though but there not offten and dont last long at all just little jolts here and there. the mucus has almost completly disapeard besids for small amounts but my bms are no longer green so thats a definate plus, of course i guess even before going gluten free i had a 2 day period where everything seemed normal and then bam i started having blood so who knows this could just be a 1 day rest of the awfullness but im hoping its just finally improving and im getting better. Still no word from my doctor so i dont know my test results yet,*keeping fingers crossed please be parasites/candida*

thank's everyone for listinging to me constanly complain and all of the great advice and guhlia thanks alot for briinging up candida it really looks/sounds like me

everyone done making fun of my spelling? :(

Sorry, I wasn't trying to make fun of you :P. I don't think anyone here cares if you can't spell, but if you ever feel like learning how to, you might as well :)

Hi Lister, glad to hear you are feeling better. I think you need to "chill out", if you are gluten intolerant it takes a while to get all of the gluten out of your system. It took me several months but I had been sick for a long, long time. Are you keeping a food diary? It helps to look back when you react to something. It usually only takes a few minures to an hour before I react.

Lister Rising Star

yeah i only got sick for about half a month then they put me on the gluten free diet. Well i guess if i look back i had symptoms of stuff but never really botherd ot think about it, axid reflux everyday if i drank soda/ in the afternoon i had constant gut pain but i ingnored it

still no answer from the doctors office :( i want my results. plus i wanna bring up candida so that way if it is the cause we can take care of it so i can get better fully.

Gluten intoelrance may allow candida to develop more readily but I stand by my statement. If gluten intolerance is not in your genetic soup you are not going to develop it. Standard blood tests do not show whether it is in your genes, they show whether you are throwing antibodies into your blood fighting the reaction. Gene testing is not something a doctor would order on a regular basis, for one thing the tests are quite expensive and for another most doctors feel that just because you have the gene (or genes) for gluten intolerance and celiac that does not mean you will develop it.

Yes, this is correct--you have to have the genes, a trigger, and gluten present in the diet to develop Celiac. Even the gene testing isn't perfect because not all of the genes connected to Celiac have been identified.

Lister Rising Star

yes i know for celiac, but im not celiac or intollerante im sensative. i was saying it can cause food sensativitys, not celiac or intollration, and i have had testing for genes it was not cheap thats for sure and nothing was found related to intolrancy or celiac genes

someone posted in another post that i could have thyroid problems because i keep getting little paper cuts on my fingers and hands in random spots for no reason. My question is, im not loosing or gaining weight anymore, should i still have my thyroids tested?? doctor never even brang it up as beeing a posabilty for anything...

gah i got some gas problems today not flatulants just built up gas inside of me. It hurts to breath it makes sharp pains in my chest and i can keep feeling gas moving around in me wtf. o well atleast im not in acuall pain pain-edit ok i have flautlents as well and a desent amount of it nm i guess thats the problem lol. gah i think im healing finally seeing as i have been gas free since i got sick, but now my stomic pains have gone away and i got gas badly lol. i did not eat anything to cause such flatulance so maybe its just my body finally getting somewhat healthy, cant wait tell i can talk to my doctor maybe he will finally rule out ulceritive colitis and chrons since im doing so much better..

oh (getting personel) those black specks i keep questioning about and mentioning have gone away but instead they have been replaced by what looks like peanut skins, these make me a little more worried because i had these skin like things for about 4 days before i started bleeding about 3 1/2 weeks ago.... i hope its just something clearing out and not the start of a ulcer or something.... beh sorry im complaining again its becoming like second nature. It is because i have no one to talk to anymore- no one wants to listen that i know besides my mother ( i try to avoid talking to her because she is mentaly insane-littaraly) everyone else is sick of hering me talk since its been a month now of me always talking about it. I just want to talk to my doctor and tell him everything and see what he thinks but not even he wants to listen :( o well back to videogames if i can see strait)

One more question viteman b12- everyone keeps telling me to go get some to help with the brain fog, im already taking centrum(i know these vitemans suck) so i want to go out and get some good ones for b12 and what not, what brands do you recommend im going to go to GNC and get some and is it a problem if i take them today since i already took a centrum??

nm black specks still there i just did not notic them this morning yay so i got the specks and the peanut skin like things..... now im worried im going to start bleeding soon hopefully not but this is just like how it was before i started to bleed

You should be able to find the sublingual B12 at GNC with no problem, the folks at the counter can help you find the right one if needed. Just be sure it says Gluten Free somewhere on the box. There is no problem with taking this on top of the Centrum.

Lister Rising Star

right on gonna go get some in abit then, gah its amazing how much better i feel today besides for slight worry about the fact i think im going ot have blood in a couple of days but o well for now i feel so much better. once this brain fog is lifted maybe i can finally smoke bowls agian lol, i have felt so intoxicated without it its just been sitting there agening lol. i cant wait to feel completly normal again. I hope this is not just a relapse like i will feel good for a couple of days then like crap again- i hope things just keep going better o yeah o yeah.

Hang on a second - you're waiting for the brain fog to lift in order to chemically (and illegally, for that matter) induce brain fog? What part of that makes sense?

I have oft joked that I'm a real cheap date, while everyone else passes the bowl around, all I need is a loaf of wonder bread

I hope you're telling your doctor about your smoking habits, since it can definitely effect whatever you've got going on internally.

Lister Rising Star

i only smoke maybe 1 bowl a day now. and he knows i smoke cigs, plus im on medical mj for my back pain so its not technacly illegal-------- i have been a chronic smoker of mj for 5 years now so its a hard habit to lift when i find life so boring without it. but as i said with this brain fog i cant bring myself to smoke any...

and mj does not cause any problems with your stomic, hell they give it to patients with chrons disease down here in oregon

and chelse what i ment by that is, if im hanging out with friends or i just want to have a uplifted time instead of depressed i can smoke and i will be in a happy and fun mood, but with this brain fog im just constantly depressed and feel tired and wierd all the time, weed usualy only lastes about 30 minutes for me not all day long like this

Not to start any kind of debate on mj, but, JFHC only one bowl a day?!

That and all of your cigarettes are going to give you lung cancer in about 5 minutes. Don't tell me pot doesn't cause lung cancer, because it does, it's just as carcinogenic as tobacco, and in some ways more so. My sister's dad has black spots on his lungs from mj, and he doesn't smoke tobacco.

MJ affects you systemically, until you are drug free, you won't have a clue what you're working with. So I guess your dr is the one who prescribed the daily mj for your back pain?

I also don't think that boredom is a medically sound reason...

Lister Rising Star

diffrent doctor and yes. and i know its bad for your lungs but im talking about stomic problems. and I do know what im working with because like i said above- well i edited so you probably did not have a chance to read it- it only lastes about 30 minutes in my system so after 30 my head is cleared-well from the mj atleast and i can tell whats going on with my body. I have not smoked any today and only a tiny bit yesterday. even though i am thinking maybe i need a lil in a bit to stop my little spasims im getting in my stomic right now. I do understand the health issues related to MJ or ciggarets and im planning on quiting both soon, well im definatly going to stop the cigs the second i figure out whats wrong with me and then im going to slowly ween myself away from the mj

and when i said only one a day thats acually really good for me- before i got sick i was up to atleast 6-10 bs a day and everyone in my house is just the same.. but they yes are not legaly aloud to use it like i am. and yes i know bordem is not medicaly sound reason to use it but hey they give me way more then i need for the back pain so meh if i have to pay for it i may as well use it when i feel like it

anyways i guess we both kinda went way off topic so back we go weeeeeeeeeeee

Not to still be the party pooper, but, your brain fog may very well be withdrawl from the pot. If you're a chronic user, your body can become dependant on it. It's not in the same way as say, cocaine, but it still causes depression, listlessness, etc.

THC is stored in your body for like, 6 weeks. It's stored in fatty organs, like the liver. You may only feel it for 30 minutes, but your body is feeling the effects of it much longer. I only *feel* the immediate effects of glutening for a couple of hours, but it's still in my body causing problems for much longer than that.

I wouldn't be saying this stuff if I didn't care, and if I hadn't seen other people in my life with this same problem. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just trying to get you to see the big picture of what you may be doing to yourself.

Lister Rising Star

yeah i know but i have gone thru pot withdraw before and its definatly not like this. About 2 years ago i got arrested for smoking in a car, so i was put on probation and drug tested for 1 year so i managed to stay sober for a year besides for drinking on a weekend bases, and i will say yes i was depressed alot but my brain and my body where in no way this shape

also when i was saying 1 b a day now its not even 1 b its like 2 or three tokes and i always pass after that, because man does it make me feel really wierd- not even like high its like a new drug to me almost now

back onto topic though i guess-- sheesh not sure if its something i ate or my body finally clearing up some but man i have had to use the bathroom for bms 3 times already and i have only been awak for like 3 hours and these are not normal bms these are huge bms lol wow i overshare somtimes o well

now that im thinking about it-the thyroid thing- i did loose rapit weight over 100 pounds in a month/but that has stoped and now im staying at the same weight- but i do always have cold and i meen really cold feet never cold hands though but very cold feet- but i meen that could be alot of things meh whatever my doctor needs to hurry up and give me the results on that parasite test i did the test on friday

Lister Rising Star

alright YAY i retract all my comments about getting better once more........ my stomic is starting with the growls and poping noises again gah it burns then growls then burns then growls god WTF, i know i did not get glutend or cced because i made the food im eating myself with clean utenesals that i cleaned myself, and i have not had a shower yet so there is no peronel products on me that could have glutened me grrrrrrrr. why cant i never get better o well atleast i had a day and a half with good feelings... im gonna go walk down to gnc and get some b12 and see if that helps with the brain fog

Lister Rising Star

well i got the b12 though it does not seem to be helping. and to make everything worse im having cramping now like right below my chest and it keeps coming and going but it really hurts ;l gah i dont know what to do.... im not going to get my results today beause my doctor is not it either.... i just wanna figure this all out already

The B12 is not like an asprin, it may take a few days to see a difference depending on how low your levels are. Have you tried a Rolaids for the pain? It may help.

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.
