New To All Of This & Have A Question

I was just diagnosed with Celiac's Disease in May and have been gluten-free since the first week of June, however my father was diagnosed about 6 years ago so we have assumed I have had Celiac's for a few years.

In the past month I have had bites appearing on my body, we thought they were flea bites but we would find no source of fleas. They are little red bumps all over my arms, my torso, my legs. New ones appear everyday. In addition to this I have a rash across my upper chest (at the base of my neck) that has not gone away.

Could this be DH? Or does anyone have any idea what it could be? I am absolutely miserable!

Nora, I really don't know. It might take awhile for someone to answer as the weekend is real slow for postings. My undiagnosed DH (visually told I had it, but no biopsy) was on my hands only and were pen point blisters that itched like mad. I would scratch them and fluid would come out. I know there are some on here that have had DH in other areas. Have you been getting cross contaminated by any chance. As our bodies begin to heal, we react much more strongly to even a crumb of gluten.

Well I've been using my family's toaster to toast my gluten-free bread so definitely getting cross-contamination there and I also work at a restaurant so it is possible there as well.

The small bite looking things definitely have liquid in them.

Get your own toaster. I bought me a cheap basic one at Target for under $9.

My mom has DH, and I had not had it until I was gluten free and got glutened somehow.

I got glutened on Thursday and now I have a mouth full of ulcers, so you can see all kind of different things pop up that you may have not noticed before.

Well the reason i havent bought my own toaster yet is because when i go back to school which is 20 hours away I have to buy one out there...dont need 2 toasters floating around.

Sorry, I think I got you mixed up with another poster.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.

I tend to agree with RMJ. Your doc took the reasonable and practical approach to diagnosis. All things considered, it was the right way to go. However, if you have first degree relatives that show signs of possible celiac disease, urge them to get formally tested before they start the gluten free diet.

It sounds like you have a very reasonable GI doctor, who diagnosed you based on family history and symptoms after eating gluten. I would consider you lucky! The other option would be to make yourself very sick by doing weeks of a gluten challenge prior to an endoscopy.
