Nini, that's fabulous! Well done!

I've downloaded my copy, and I'd like a massage too!

One suggestion - I didn't see a list of safe companies - Kraft etc. Would that be useful? Also, I found the Whole Foods and Wild Oats lists helpful when starting out.

Do you have those lists? Cos I don't... if you have them, I'd be happy to add them to the newbie kit

Franceen Explorer

When I unzipped the files it asked me for a Password for the Word Doc "50 Things to Eat NOW" - so I had to skip that file. Do you have a Password for it? The properties of the file show it as being password protected.

THANKS :-)

shoot... I don't know WHY it does that... I did not put a password on it, It doesn't require a password when I try to open it... I'll have to get my more tech savvy hubby to help me figure that one out.

I just tried to open it again from hubby's computer and no problems... I really don't have any clue why it's asking for a password because on my computer and on hubby's it does not show it as being password protected... Also, I double checked the permissions, and all permissions are allowed. Guess I'm gonna have to remove that one from the kit and put it up separately...

When I unzipped it said something like " you may not be able to access this file but can try doing something or other" I went ahead anyway and it worked fine.

This is a link the the Whole Foods site:

Open Original Shared Link

You can choose your local store and it lists what gluten-free food they sell.

I can't for the life of me find the Wild Oats one on their site. Maybe it's gone. I've got the paper version in front of me so I knoqw I wasn't imagining it.

The other list I was thinking of is the one Kaiti posts. I'll look for it.

Hmmmmm... I don't know how I'd be able to incorporate the link into the list of files... unless I just had one file for links in the Newbie Kit... especially since the list varies by store...

No matter what I do it wants a password for this file. It probably has to do with which UNZIP one uses. The one embedded in XP wants a password. It doesn't even let me go past that "give me a password" window.

In fact, it won't let me do any of the files without a password.

Can you post these files UNZIPPED?

I have had this problem in the past and it has to do with Windows XP Professional which I have to use on my home computer because of my work. I also have a ton of firewalls, virus software, Spyware software, and only use the embedded XP unzipper.

I know of many computers that have this problem, most all have XP. But who knows?

Anyway, can you post at least the Word Docs without zipping them?

Thanks

:-)

Guest nini

I'll try that.

Thats awesome that you put this together for the newbies....and even the not-so-newbies. Its gonna make life easier for alot of people. :)

Guest nini

no, it won't let me do that... I'd have to upload ALL the files from the kit separately...

Thanks, Nini! But I have the same problem with the list of 50 things, it wants a password from me, too. So, I unzipped everything else but can't get that one.

Franceen, there is one spot when it demands a password, where it says something like 'skip that one' or something like that. You click on that, and it will unzip everything else.

elonwy Enthusiast

When I download things that the computer thinks might be an installer file it asks for my password. I'm on mac, but at this point they're really close to eachother. Did you try typing in your password for your computer?

Just a random thought.

ok, I've added a link where I've uploaded ALL of the files from the Newbie Kit... you can either download the zip file, or go to the link where you can download one file at a time.

Franceen Explorer

yup i was able to unzup everything else by saying "skip this file" ....

And I tried my computer password, but that didn't do anything either.

It's the .doc files that give problems. Not .zip. At work .zip's are in fact stripped from emails because they ARE perceived as installer files. But not here and not in AOL.

I've seen this problem with Word files when they are taken from web site links. We had this problem with a major Army website. The files were asking for passwords. Someone else figured it out and cured it and they told us what the problem was but I don't remember - it didn't matter to me back then. Oh well.

Nini, you're fabulous, always helping others, thanks!

Nini,

Yes thank you! These files are great. They help a lot when you are craving a snack or hungry in a pinch.

They will help not just NEWBIES, but all of us.

:-) :D

I suspect the problem with the fifty things file is its name. It contains double quotation marks, which are not allowed in a file name under NTFS (the XP native file system). I can extract all of the others at once, and can extract that one to a removable disk which uses FAT rather than the NT file system, and to my second hard drive which uses FAT32. The quotes do get changed to underscores during that process.

For what it's worth.

Guest nini

on my end, it doesn't contain the double quotation marks... from any angle I look at it... I got the file from someone else originally though, so who knows... like I said before, I'm not that tech savvy so forgive me for things not working perfectly!

Franceen Explorer

YUP the double quotes IS the problem.

Tried a test with another zipped file on my FAT32 and then on my NTFS drive. NTFS doesn't allow you to even name the file with quotes or even create a new file with quotes in it. It probably got the quotes in an email system? Or from MAC or maybe just another FAT32 drive where it was created. I don't know why you don't see them - maybe you're using MAC? Or an older OS?

The person downloading the .zip can't change the file name though!

So Nini, try changing the file name by cut and pasting the document into a new .doc and then re-saving it.

Then zip it with all the others and see what happens.

The other solution is to make one big PDF of all the files.

Ask your techy husband about doing that (if you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat available).

But, thanks again for these great files.

Guest nini

ok my peeps... I changed the file name and re uploaded the zip file... it "should" work now...

Guest nini

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
