Question About Muscle Spasms.....

Does any one know if muscle spasms are a related disorder to Celiac? Not that it matters, but I like to keep a tab of what all celiac has done to me!!!!! :P:ph34r:

I tend to have my neck and back go out and have some pretty intense pain. I keep a bottle of muscle relaxers to knock it out when it starts, but I still have it for about a week. It's a real pain in the neck! :blink:

Anyway, thanks in advance for any thoughts on this subject!

Fibromyglia maybe??????? I just found out that my veins take spasms. good ? wish someone will know the answer

My mom said maybe it's fibermyalgia. She has it and since my muscles get all knotted, she thinks it might be the same thing!

Yikes! It sure sounds like it (FM) . Do you have muscle fatigue as well? Especially in the hands and arms? This is how it started for me. Being careful to stay gluten-free will probably keep the severity in check. I am sorry this is happening to you.

I don't know what causes mine. Being gluten-free does not help them, but physical therapy does.

It always hits me in my neck. It started a couple of years ago. I didn't know what was happening. I was a little stressed, trying to get everything ready for Halloween and I have two kids which, well, keeps you at a certain level of stress! :P I was shaking up a cup of chocolate milk and bam! I couldn't turn my head without intense sharp pain. Went to the hospital and got some valume and pain killers, they said x-rays were fine, maybe a pinched nerve. It went away one day. And now when I get stressed out I get these knots in my neck and shoulder area. I do get some muscle fatigue as well. I am 100% gluten free for 7 months now, and I am a fanatic about it. I really don't know much about fibermyagia. If anyone could help me out with info....

What do you do to ease it when it comes on?

Hi Lollie--nice to see you! I found this information on Fibromyalgia--I didn't really know much about it, although my sister in law has it.

Thanks Patti! That info was quite helpful and I guess I do have FM, <_< I hate it when my mom is right!!!!! That little diagram of the neck and upper back has all the spots on it that are sore on me! I guess I always thought that you are supposed to be tired when you are raising kids! :P And the info about the stops in deep sleep are particularly interesting. I never feel like I have truly rested, even though I go to bed at a reasonable hour. I had no idea that was one of the effects, again I thought its just because I am a mom.

And it's good to be back! Missed everybody!

Lollie, these stretches work best for me when my neck and shoulders yank up:

1. Lie on back on bed, tuck chin to chest while pressing back of head into bed, hold for count of 5, release, repeat 5 times.

2. Stand or sit, tip head to left shoulder, put left hand on right side of head while reaching right hand to the floor, hold for count of 15, switch to other side. Do 5 repeats.

On either of these stretches, you can slowly turn your head from side to side. You will feel the tight muscles pulling, these are the ones that need to stretch. This is a pain that you will have to work through to get relief.

I hope they work for you, my pt gave them to me.

      I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.

      Thanks @Scott Adams. Do you know if Kirkland Signature supplements share facility and production lines with other products containing gluten?  I'm worried that I'll react to this brand just like I did with other gluten-free labelled supplement brands.

      This is a really common area of confusion. Most natural cheeses (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, Parmesan, brie, camembert, and most blue cheeses) are inherently gluten-free, and you’re right that the molds used today are typically grown on gluten-free media. The bigger risks tend to come from processed cheeses: shredded cheese (anti-caking agents), cheese spreads, beer-washed rinds, smoke-flavored cheeses, and anything with added seasonings or “natural flavors,” where cross-contact can happen. As for yeast, you’re also correct — yeast itself is gluten-free. The issue is the source: brewer’s yeast and yeast extracts can be derived from barley unless labeled gluten-free, while baker’s yeast is generally safe. When in doubt, sticking with whole, unprocessed cheeses and products specifically labeled gluten-free is the safest approach, especially if you’re highly sensitive.
