Have you done bloodwork yet? And if so what did they look for, and what does he want to look for now. Remember this, he works for you ask alot of questions. My doctor said "yes your labs are leaning toward sprue" wtf does that mean? I had to call back and ask why, what is it? It ended up being extremely elevated gliadin levels, which led to the endoscopy. My point is if you already had blood taken why didn't he just look for it the first time? I'm with you, cha ching...I'm really wondering why he did the stig, instead of a colonoscopy...doesn't that only cover a tiny part of your lower intestine?

because my normal doctor had thought i had colitis, so he figured he could either find evedance of chrons or colitis by doing the stig, but he didnt so now he needs a full. as for blood work i had a full panel for celiac, nothng was elivated, the diet was based off of some damage they found doing a barilum xray serese. as for other blood work they already have done anema testing and some other stuff, the blood work they want to do now is for chrons and other things like that, not sure hwy since hes oging to scope me anyways

Guest ~jules~

Wow that sounds like alot of testing thats not helped whatsoever, I'm sorry no wonder your stressing. I hope this next batch they run gives you some answers....

Lister Rising Star

i dont :( man i really really hope its not chrons, im to young to have to deal with all that crap, to many awful things come from it, unfortunatly they have narrowed it down to like 4 things

stomic cancer, colon cancer, eusphogis cancer *not sure why he is thinking that at alll* or chrons disease, so i meen i gues chrons is the lesser of evils but it still basicly leeds to cancer along with lots of bleeding and ulcers and crap... why... i just wanna be healthy but from the sounds of it , its never going to happen everything thats left for me to have is chronic... my life already sucked, this is just making it worse, now i cant even get close to going to school to try to get out of my crap job because im stuck paying for doctor bills to deal with something they cant fix

ravenwoodglass Mentor
well i just got the results back from the stigmoidoscopy, well that was a waist of fricking money. they found nothing with the biopsis so now he wants to do a endoscopy/full colonoscopy- at the same time (omg ahhhhh) i dont think i can even go thru with that procedure, i meen i guess i could suck it up and do the colonoscopy but the endo seems kinda extreme to me. plus the money OMG..... the next apointment is past october so im going to be living longer with no fricking answers. its fricking bullcrap omg i hate all of this fricking crap..and now he wants me to start taking like medamusul and crap to try to regulate me. doubt it will work just more money waisted

Lister the endo is the test you need the most. IMHO Do not cancel that test. The doc is saving you money by doing both at once. I think the endo will give you answers. The blood tests your doc wants to rerun are needed also, you don't know what may have changed.

i have a question. ok so its been about 6 months now they still have not figured out whats wrong with me, i still continue to loose about 3-5 pounds a week my endo/colon are not until after october, now if whatever is wrong with me is "life threataning" or very seriuse would they have already found out what it is? like what im asking is if i was "dying" would they have already caut it or could whatever is wrong with me be getting worse and worse because this is taking so long. im going to be really upset if i find out in october that something is killing me and i have been working at burger king anywayse instead of enjoying my life while i still have it. dont know why im thinking like this but i am *probabbly lack of sleep* the pains i have have moved from my left side to the center of my stomic, its wierd its like all of my problems shifted to a diffrent bowl....ugh and i cant find a version of metamusil thats gluten-free that still acts the same way so i cant even folllow doctors orders, he told me to take metamusil, because he has no clue if im gluten intollarent or not

Lister Rising Star

can u have ulcers without sings of blood in stools? i am thinking maybe my problem is peptic ulcers they can ause weight loss and matchs my stomic pains exactly

Lister if a doctor thinks you have something life threatening they are able to get you in very quickly and would do so. When I switched doctors before diagnosis my new doc called a GI on my first visist and I was picking up the prep after I left my regular doctors office. I didn't even meet the GI until I was prepped for my procedure the next day. That was actually unfortunate because the GI only heard my symptoms second hand and they only did a colonoscopy which of course showed nothing other the extensive diverticulosis. If your doctors had even the slightest suspicion that what you are suffering from was life threatening you would have your tests done very quickly. In addition there would be indications in your lab work that something life threatening was going on. I can't give you any promises of course but I do believe if you were at deaths door the doctors would have some indication of this and things would be moving faster. You stated when you first started posting that your doctor had found indications on exam that pointed to celiac, that was why you started the gluten-free diet in the first place. Unfortunately you are working someplace that virtually insures you will remain semihealed and suffer a lot from unavoidable CC. If there is something else going on the doctors will find it, I have confidence in that. You may want to ask the GI office if they can put you on their list for cancellations. It might mean that you only have 24 hours notice for the procedure but perhaps your appointment can be moved up if someone else cancels. I know you are worried and can fully understand why you are worried, I would be also, but worry in itself can make our stomachs do some nasty things. One thing you may want to ask your doctor about is trying a low level dose of something like amitryplimine (sp), this or a similar drug can often be helpful at a low dose when taken at bedtime when anxiety is making stomach problems worse. I don't know if this would help you and you would need to discuss it furthur with your doctor but there is a corelationship between chemicals in the brain and chemicals in the gut. Not everyone benefits but only your doctor would know for sure. If I can find anything on gluten-free fiber products I will post a link for you. Have you posted the Metamucial query on the Products board?

Lister Rising Star

yep people said metamusil hurt there stomics but it states that its gluten free, the other substatue says gluten free but then says it contains wheat but below 10whatever scale, so i dont trust it.

what im confused by is when i first saw the gi he shedualed my stig for 1 week after i met him but for the colon and endo its over 2 months away why the big time gap?

I wouldn't take the metamucil either. If he wants you to take it for the fiber maybe you could add some more fruit or veggies, slowly and see if it helps.

I can't be sure about the time gap for the second round of tests but I suspect it is because the findings on the sig were unremarkable and they suspect that nothing serious or life threatening is going on. They may also be giving you more time on the gluten-free diet perhaps to see if things continue improving. Just a guess the best person to answer might be the nurse.

Did you feel any better for a few of days after the sig, with the exception of the gas, did your D improve or seem to change to C, (as in you didn't go for a couple of days)?

Hello Lister.

I think I may be able to help a little bit. I have had all of what you are experiencing minus some of the weight loss. I think you have a yeast overgrowth that is causing the brain-fog etc. If you can get to the libray check out the books by Jordan Rubin, Patient Heal Thyself and also The Makers Diet. Jordan Rubin was dying of Chrons disease and was able to heal himself through fighting the yeast overgrowth and replacing the needed probiotics to his system. His books are religious in nature, because he is a religious man, but don't let that deter you. I used his methods and acheived an amazing recovery from most of my symptoms. Finding out I was Gluten Intolerant was my final puzzle piece after agressively fighting the yeast for over a year.

Go spend $10.00 and get yourself some GOOD refridgerated acidophilus to start with. Try eatting raw garlic... it will hurt and make you feel worse before it makes you feel better, just drink tons of water!! Start slowly with small amounts of garlic and build up to more. Garlic is affordable and is one of the best forms of antibiotic, antiviral, and antifungal that you can use! But as itsworking on killing the nasties that are in your system it will make you feel ill. Here is a hint... if you do feel ill then you know you are on the right track! I was sick as a dog when I first started fighting the yeast! Eat yogurts if you can and if you can't then make yourself some cabbage soup. (boil cabbage, tomatos, and onions for about 6 hours or more)

Other than that the food banks are a wonderful idea. I used to live in Oregon and I know they have some wonderful food banks as well as very health consciencious people who follow alternative lifestyles. You should be able to get some good help if you ask for it.

Best of luck to you!! I hope you find relief soon.

never had D problems only c, always has been c i had d for the firstr 2 weeks i was sick but that was over 5 months ago. but yeah after the stig i felt way better for a few days- thinking from the enema. and i am still doing better but definatly still something is wrong

The probiotics can also help with the C. Its not just the D. If you read some of his work, you can even Google him, you'll see that he has helped many people with chronic C through the use of his Primal Defense. It works for both.

I'm happy to hear you are starting to feel better!

Be careful, sadly, Primal Defense is not gluten-free! I was very sad to have to stop taking it, but it was one of the "hidden glutens" for me!

Don't worry about the side effects, just worry about whether it is gluten-free. The less you look up side effects the less likely you are to suffer from them. Make sure they are gluten-free then just take them. You did take all the prednisone you were prescribed right?

Lister Rising Star

yeah i took them wish i was still on them though, they were working for me at the higher dosages but the second the dosage droped they stoped working for me

yeah the aciphex is gluten free or atleast someone on the board said it is, i am just nervis about taking it without knowing evrything about it, what if it turns out im allergic to something in it what do i do i meen it could kill me or somethng

Lister Rising Star

well since its for my health *even though i doubt they will work* i guess i will risk and take the aciphex, as much as i dont want to since they sound fairly dangerise but whatever i just wanna get better

Lister I took aciphex for awhile, for acid reflux, I think I may have asked this before is that why the doc gave you that.. Anyhow, I had no side effects at all from it....hopefully you wont either..

Lister Rising Star

the gi gave it to me in sample bottles and told me to start takking it for my knawing pain that i have that goes away when i eat, he thinks it may be a ulcer and says that aciphex would help to heal the ulcer.

Im really scared, my scopes are not until nov 8th but in my sleep last night i lost a visual 5 pounds off my stomic, like there is a good inch diffirance on my waist over night im really scared...

CarlaB Enthusiast

It's probably just gas that's no longer there because of the meds. Quit worrying so much!! Part of your weight loss might be because you're eating better than you used to! I don't know about you, but I don't eat nearly as much garbage as before.

Lister Rising Star

yes i can admit that i used to eat very very badly *burger king 2 meals a day sometimes 3 and when i ate it was like a wopper with cheese and a king fry every day* and now i eat very very healthy but still it should not be rapid weight loss, on average i loose 5 pounds a week last month i lost a total of 15 pounds the month before that 15 the month before that 15 the month before that 20 and the month before that 30- im not currently on meds, i need to start my aciphex but my prednisone ran out last week

well i dont think i need the metamusil, the doc said to make sure i drink 8 glass's of water a day i thought i was but now i realise i was not as i increased my water intake yesterday and i cant stop using the restroom :) thats a good thing, for me

anyone read the warning about bagged spinich? does that apply to fresh heads also or just like prepackaged dole? i only buy the heads but i wanna make sure im fine with eating it ( i do love my spinich)

CarlaB Enthusiast

You are right, but I know when I drop weight, it will be five pounds at a time. That's probably just normal for gluten intolerants. I think your weight will stabilize. I also think that a certain amount of your suffering is due to your body taking the opportunity to heal and rid itself of all the garbage you've put into it over the years ... I suffer from that, too.

Spinach does not grow in 'heads' that's lettuce and the lettuce is fine. The only thing they are 'recalling' is bagged spinach, this is very dark green and is leaves. You should always make sure to wash all veggies and fruits before eating. Cooked spinach or frozen that would be heated is ok.

Lister Rising Star

yeah sorry did not meen head i ment like i buy spinish thats wrapped with a rubberband, not the prebagged should be fine i always wash it first anyways, i love my greens, probably one of the only things thats giving me energy.

_______-

there is not weat in anistetics ever is there? just wondering about the sedation they are going to use for the endo/colonoscopy

Maybe you have a low  intolerance to Wheat.   Rye, Barley and Malt are the gluten in Celiac disease.  It has always been stated Wheat and Gluten, not just a Wheat intolerance.  Barley will keep me in bed for (2) weeks.  Gut, Migrains, Brain fog, Diahrea.  It is miserable.  And when I was a toddler the doctor would give me a malt medicine because I always had Anemia and did not grow.  Boy was he off.  But at that time the US didn't know anyone about Celiac.  This was the 1940s and 50s.  I had my first episode at 9 months and did not get a diagnosis until I was 50.  My immune system was so shot before being diagnoised, so now I live with the consequences of it. I was so upset when Manufacturers didn't want to label their products so they added barley to the product.  It was mostly the cereal industry.  3 of my favorite cereals were excluded because of this. Malt gives me a bad Gut reaction.

Thanks much Scott.  Well said, and heeded.   I don't have Celiac, which is fortunate.

Do you have the results of your endoscopy? Did you do a celiac disease blood panel before that?  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
    • Scott Adams
It is odd that your Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) IgA level has bounced from the "inconclusive" range (7.9, 9.8) down to a negative level (5.3), only to climb back up near the positive threshold. This inconsistency, coupled with your ongoing symptoms of malabsorption and specific nutrient deficiencies, is a strong clinical indicator that warrants a more thorough investigation than a simple "satisfactory" sign-off. A negative blood test does not definitively rule out celiac disease, especially with such variable numbers and a classic symptomatic picture. You are absolutely right to seek a second opinion and push for a referral to a gastroenterologist. A biopsy remains the gold standard for a reason, and advocating for one is the most direct path to getting the answers you need to finally address the root cause of your suffering. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

There is a distinction between gluten itself and the other chemicals and processing methods involved in modern food production. Your experience in Italy and Greece, contrasted with your reactions in the U.S., provides powerful anecdotal evidence that the problem, for some people, may not be the wheat, but the additives like potassium bromate and the industrial processing it undergoes here. The point about bromines displacing iodine and disrupting thyroid function is a significant one, explaining a potential biological mechanism for why such additives could cause systemic health issues that mimic gluten sensitivity. It's both alarming and insightful to consider that the very "watchdog" agencies meant to protect us are allowing practices banned in many other developed countries. Seeking out European flour and your caution about the high-carb, potentially diabeticgenic nature of many gluten-free products are excellent practical takeaways from your research, but I just want to mention--if you have celiac disease you need to avoid all wheat, including all wheat and gluten in Europe.
