Morgan -- I sympathize with the sweet tooth thing. I went crazy when I discovered gluten free ginger bread cookies.

Carla -- Sorry to hear you got sick on your trip. :( It's hard to enjoy yorself when you're not feeling well!

I have to clarify that is is not OUR restort in that we don't own it. We call it that since it was so small and intimate we felt we were there by ourselves. There were only abot 200 rooms, and the place was so out of the way...adutls only to boot. ;):D:D

Well, found out today that they WILL be able to provide for gluten free items in Greenland. YEAH!! :D

Work is calling, and I so do NOT want to be here today. Almost 30 degrees out ( 82 Farenheit ) and I am stuck inside in the dark.

( I did a search on my name though, foudn only a few posts... so figured I should post somthing before you completely forget me....)

Yay, the B girls are back, and in rare form at that :) Sorry you are still sick Carla, feel better soon. Morgan, I also understand Racheling the sugar. I just can't handle sugar well at all, when I eat it I want more of it, so I try to stay away from it as much as I can. I know, better said than done-- especially when you find something so yummy, it's hard to stop. But I feel so much better off of it, and when I do eat it from time to time I get sooo sick, so I know it is definitely a problem for me.

Andrea, thanks for sharing your horse collection with us. After seeing the movie Hidalgo I am a fan of the wild mustang.

Ryan, "your" resort sounds like a great place :)

We can never forget Vincent

Ok I caught up, except for about 7 pages somewhere in the 30's, but I think I'll just miss those forever.

OK..put up the first pic...me and my lavander dress at my Moms wedding. You cant see my shoes though...they got cut off. I will try to make the pic more clear later.

How do I write something under my pic??

Rachel, you look so pretty :) you look like an angel

I missed it. Have to share the computer with Mitch and I'm missing out on the fun.

Dave,

Very pretty. Aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

They are adorable!

I missed it too :( It took me a little while to figure out why everyone was upset about the dogs, but I soon figured out they were actually upset about the picture of Rachel :lol::lol:

I'm quoting myself! Not only do I have to STOP going to bed at 8:00, I may have to quite premature posting...after this I noticed the discussion on how TheDave stole Rachel's picture...um, the only picture I saw were the cute puppies...so Rachel, I wasn't talking about you when I wrote this comment.

exactly :P

Momma Goose is STRESSED. We have decided to down size and sell our house. We have found another that we like every much but it is much smaller, likewise price. But it's like putting 10 lbs of spinach into a 5lbs bag....:blink: And my GERD is acting up like hell fire. Meeting with a Realitor tomorrow to see if others think our home is as valuable as we do

If it wasn't so hard to get off Lexipro, I'd wish for it back.

Sorry Susan, if I appeared snippy. I was in so much discomfort that it was hard to breath, much less laugh at everyone who could belch. Everyone was belching on line and I just needed just one to feel better.

Still belchless, Lisa

ok, I'm confused  maybe I read too fast and missed something....when did the balching happen?

i just posted this in the gab room

I will only be checking this once a day at the most, i probably will not be posting at all.

I have 3 APs and 2 honors classes so i will be gone this entire school year.

i will check my e-mail and write back if people have questions.

O-man :o sounds like quite a year...we'll miss you

Everyone knew to stay clear of the boardroom from 12:45 to 1:00 p.m.!!!!!

:lol: that would be useful information

Is it my imagination or does one have darker hair than the other? Just asking cause one of my twins is blond & the other brunet... yours look more alike than mine do though. I actually had people refuse to believe they were twins!

For a few years, people thought that two of my sisters were twins. They were two years apart and one had curly hair while the other had straight hair. One time someone asked if they were twins and they just looked at each other for a few seconds and then just cracked up laughing. They were laughing so hard that my brother and I had to explain there age difference. The lady that asked was so embarrassed

I have decided that tomorrow I will not have any sugar, except for the fruit that I eat for breakfast. I am telling everyone on here bc I figure the more people I tell, the more likely it will be that I'll follow through. I'll probably give updates as the day goes on to keep myself going <_<;)B) I just love sugar  especially chocolate. Now I'm just looking for something to take it's place  this is causing me to eat even more sugar than I did when I just ate the dang chocolate

This has happened for years ... one is 11, the other 13, and they've gotten this since they were really little. The 11 year old is a normal size for her age, the 13 (Chloe) is very petite and is the gluten intolerant one. If you just looked over my kids and I told you to guess which one had the gluten problem, Chloe is the one you'd guess just because of her size. What really irritates Chloe is when we're out at a restaurant and they bring her a kid's cup and her younger sister a regular one!

Now you know we are going to have to hold you to this....

I eat fruit to replace sugar. Also, once in a while, I will have some raw honey if I need to have something sweet, I'll mix a little in some almond butter.

One of my twins was MUCH smaller & thinner than the other & boy, did he get tired of hearing strangers say "Oh! You're TWINS!!?? I thought you were maybe two years younger than your brother!" (It's hard enough for a girl to be small for her age but there's more of a stigma for boys...)

Then in 9th grade he suddenly started growing a mile a minute, & a couple of years later, he was almost as tall as his bro. Meanwhile, the bigger twin was losing his baby fat as he grew, so now their bodies are much more alike than they ever were before. And the blond's hair darkened, the brunet's lightened slightly, so at age 19 they finally pass for twins!

Yea, she asked me to hold her to it ... I didn't even get out of bed till 2PM today, so I told her that she'd need to post it because she might have eaten all the sugar in the kitchen by the time I come downstairs!!

Not really, just moved downstairs. I thought I was getting over my virus, then went to my grandma's and must have gotten glutened. She tried really hard, so I kind of feel bad that I got glutened there ... but that had to be it. It got Morgan and Chloe, too, but they just get a little upset tummy with some d, then bounce back. Me, I'm usually down for about 8 days! I'm just sick of being sick :(

Morgan cooked some eggs and gluten-free English muffins for me for lunch. Then on her way home from the pool she stopped by Wild Oats, bought dinner, then came home and cooked it!! What am I going to do when she goes off to college Wed.???? :(:(:(:(:(

Morgan,

Why are you giving up chocolate? Did I forget?

*a special note...the dairy free chocolate is not the same as dairy filled chocolate. I can notice a large difference. I still eat the dairy free chocolate...just a tiny bite after a meal. When I say chocolate, I mean M&M's, heaths, hershys, and whatever else is dairy filled

I'm going to go on a casein challenge, since I eat dairy every day two meals a day....I most likely have a problem with it. So I'm testing it. This is my fourth successful day :) After a few weeks, I'll pig out

HA! Cause she's a pig!!!

Umm, yeah I am....with chocolate

One of mine just left too... but the other's college is on a quarter system so I get to have him around a little longer.

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
