Itching (but No Rash) After Glutening

Last night I went out to a local mexican joint, and ordered grilled chicken with rice and refried beans.

Last time I ate there I got sick, but I assumed it was from the tortillas since they are made on the same press as the flour ones, and since corn sometimes makes my tummy unhappy.

This time I didn't eat the tortillas.

I still got sick. By sick I mean explosive diarrhea and bloating and tummy cramping.

By the time I got home my body was itching all over. It still itches today. There is no rash that is noticeable. I don't think I have DH have never noticed anything unusual on my skin other than little bumps I've always had on my upper arms but I think that's normal.

Is it possible the itching could be related to gluten intolerance? (I am not yet diagnosed)

I think the itching has to be connected.

I get the itching with no rash or skin redness--it's gotten better the longer I'm gluten-free and have fewer reactions.

I also use laundry detergents with no dyes or perfumes like All or Purex Free and Clear. That helps, too :)

I'm not sure about the connection, but I do know that refried beans can contain flour so that may explain your glutening.

I do feel a bit itchy after glutening. I never get a rash and luckily the itching isn't too bad for me.

Also if the broth they used to make the spanish rice has gluten in it, I have a hard time finding gluten-free spanish rice.

I get itching with no rash, uncontrollable embarrassing itching all over my body, from my scalp to the bottom of my feet.

Oh wow - I'm not alone!

Yes I'm sure I was glutened via a) the marinade for the chicken, B) the beans or c) the broth the rice was made in. Either way, I won't be eating there again (sadly)

I'm kind of relieved to know that it could be gluten-related and I'm not just going crazy!

I will take some Benadryl tonight - The itching is bad, and it literally affects me from my scalp to my feet. Argh!

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
