Circulation

I don't know if poor circulation has anything to do with celiacs. But people on here seem to know a lot about all sorts of things, so I figured I"d ask.

My feet are always SO cold! Anyone have any tips for increasing circulation? Supplements or vitamins or exercises? My hands periodically get really cold, too. But I definately notice it in my feet more.

It seems to be related for me. When I get glutened, for the next few days I'm SO cold. Not just to the touch, like my feet and hands, but I feel like I can't get warm on the inside. I'm so cold, it almost hurts. Cold all the way down to my bones... When I can't get warm enough, I go sit in a hot bath until I feel warm again. Or if I don't have time for that, I'll fill the bathroom sink with hot-ish water and put my hands in it until I warm up.

Has your thyroid been checked?

Corkdarrr Enthusiast

CarlaB, funny you should mention that...stupid thyroid. I've been hypothyroid for almost 13 years now - since I was 12. I am currently in a long discussion with my doctor because I am convinced that although I test normal, it is on the LOW end of normal. Sigh. I figure that the thyroid is connected to just about anything and everything, and just that one little boost of hormones could potentially solve SO much. That post a week or two ago about Dr. Broda Barnes and the low basal temp REALLY hit home for me.

Nantzie, I am literally cold. To the touch. I'm the girl with blocks of ice for feet in bed. Even with socks on sometimes. But I do find that it helps to run your hands under warm water - especially right on the underside of your wrists. And vice versa for cooling down.

Thanks!

I have a friend whose temps were always low, but her thyroid tests were normal. She started taking otc thyoid and can now make it through a day without napping and has lost 60 pounds (she needed to!)! I take an otc thyroid and have for years. When tested, I come out normal, but I'm not willing to go off my thyroid to see if it's low without it because then my temps drop and I feel cruddy.

Have you looked into Raynauds Syndrome? We have a family friend (non Celiac) who has it. Some of your symptoms sound similar.

Here's a link to read about it--

There is OTC thyroid?!? In the US? What is normal and what is low? I've had thyroid tests done and they were in the normal range, but a lot of my tests come back at the vey low end of normal.

As I read this thread I'm sitting here under a blanket wearing fingerless gloves, a sweatshirt with the hood up, and socks. It's still August!

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
