I find that rice will give me the same symptoms as gluten. Rice is not the hypoallergenic food that people believe it is.

Unfortunately, I am not sure if it's possible to find crackers without gluten or rice. Unless you bake your own crackers! But there are still lots of snack foods available, it just won't be as easy to find them now.

Still, there are always fruits and vegetables! If your son can tolerate peanut butter and likes celery for instance, you can make celery with peanut butter and raisins. I don't know if dairy is okay, but cheese with grapes is nice.

You can wrap things in a corn tortilla for a snack. Well, I am running out of ideas, I don't have little kids anymore, and my grandchildren love fruits for snacks. I am sure others have more ideas.

My daugher is allergic to rice also. It is very challenging! I have not found a cracker or bread that I could *buy*. For snacks, she eats mostly fruit, veggies. Sometimes Glutino pretzels or Tostito chips. I make bread, cookies, applesauce bars.

what are applesauce bars sounds like something we could eat here.

There are so many varieties of rice, so I'd be wondering if the allergy isn't to a specific kind or small set of them, rather than all rices.

You might give millet a try. It apparently is quite well tolerated - easy to digest and not usually a problem even to those with allergies to many other things. There's also amaranth, teff, buckwheat, quinoa and others. I've read that quinoa can replace rice in a number of recipes, but I've yet to try. As suggested, if corn is ok, tortilla chips are quite a treat anytime IMO. There are corn pastas too, though I read they don't stack up to Tinkyada.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
