Offer, shmoffer! That's where they've placed me....

Hilarious...Susie, while I was typing the interesting word "Bugling", as in the present continuous tense of "to bugle", I glanced at it and thought, "Gawd, that could easily be misread as "BULGING", pr. continuous of "To bulge". But I went ahead, thinking, "Nah. Nobody on this thread would do that".:rolleyes:

Pull your finger out people !!! ...there's much to be done .......back to braiding the Yeti........

Uhm...Nikki- just exactly WHERE should we pull our finger out from? :P:lol:

But I do think Nikki's theory, the stabbing of his own gut, not quite realizing that treatment for cOeliac is removal of gluten, instead of the stabbing of one's own spleen......is actually the CORRECT answer. laugh.gif Nevertheless, I'll direct him to my vomitous friend's house anyway. wink.gif

BEVVY - did you crumble up the Reese's IN the risotto? laugh.gif

Yes- you must tell him you don't remove the small intestines, you remove the GLUTEN :P

Yes- I DID have Reese's risotto :D

Poor weasel...give her a HUG for me!!!!!!!!!

OMG - Richard/Chad - are you not ALSO in the witness protection program, hiding out in some small town in NY? And if that be the case - do you THINK you should be posting PHOTOS of yourself for all the world to see?! blink.gif

That is not Richard? It's Chad? Oh SHEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should we be scared???

We are coming down to the wire wedding wise...people we may need to pull an all-nighter.

I must thank my fave grocery store for discounting my 25lb box of Hershey kisses for my favors and 2 nights ago for 25 bottles of sparkling grape juice.

I must make a run to Target right now...see you all soon!!!!

Patti--I have been waiting all day for you to come over, you were supposed to visit today :)

OMG - we are pulling an all-nighter??? You'd better make us LOTS of coffee...................

and that Patti, I tell ya, she is just such a squirrelly, irresponsible sort, isn't she? I don't even think she's unpacking......most likely has even MORE of a candy hangover than Janet, and Sarah's chocolate-vomiting kids.....in fact THIS VERY MOMENT I am sure Patti is strung out in a candy coma, wrappers everywhere, in a TORPOR from too much sugar and junk.

*cracking self up*

I did not see the zombie man today. I feel SO EMPTY.

and Bev. sheeet yes, we SHOULD be scared!! That is CHAD not Richard...we are SO ONTO HIM!!! and BTW Lauren did say, if I remember correctly, taht CHAD was a very bad kisser......perhaps "Richard's" reason for entering the programME?

must study for Spanish.

I was informed by mail today, that I am on the honoUr's list for my junior college courses (I have about 12 or 16 post- degree/teaching credential credits). Um, if only I"d gotten those grades whilst pursuing my actual BA..............

I can't vouch for my kissing abilities, but if Lauren said "Chad" was lacking I don't suppose he feels badly about those pictures circulating on the WWW...

Maybe, just maybe if Lauren hadn't stolen Chad's kidney (just one of her victims) Chad wouldn't have had to uproot his whole life and hire a cheap plastic surgeon to make him look like Joey Fatone!

I think Nikki is done with his hair, and has moved to the manicure/pedicure portion of "the full treatment". She's brave one that Nikki. I heard she was raised by wolves in the Scottish highlands. ;)

Not to worry, Amanda! He'll be all set. Nikki's got his hair absolutely gorgeous--she put some kind of a conditioning rinse in it. I'm telling you, that monster could now be quite an effective marketing tool for Vidal Sassoon. "Vidal texturizing balm...for the most ABOMINABLE hair trouble..." pan out to our yeti, a brush being pulled through his luxurious locks.

...And his inseam is 40 inches...

Just what exactly is being celebrated in your new AV? Is that the "mommy said I can have a Yoo-hoo before bed" dance, or the "I pulled daddy's finger and now the whole house stinks" jig?

I would NEVER give my children YooHoos . . . are you nuts? And daddy never farts . . . only the dog farts at our house, go figure.

That's the "I just found an Easter egg" victory dance (egg held high and just out of the picture). If you look close, you'll notice she's wearing her Christmas jammies. :D

going to sort through old paint clothing now....................but I'm thinking, instead of half-shirt, just a brassiere. Seems more suitable.

Yeah ok, I thought shirtless more suitable as well, but went w/ a half-shirt anyway.

Now . .. . . . ..where have those missing Corinthians gone? To assist w/ a seating chart?

 Richard @ Mr Shufflufigus!

Back to catching up for me. Took the kids to N. side of Lake Tahoe today. They had a half day @school.

Fun stuff. Tall trees. Shimmering lake. Popped into CA for ~15min :D

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
