Forgive me ignorance M....do you mean Dermatitis Herpetiformis?? <sp?>

I thought that was blisters??? ....no blisters on Tel

Nik, my DH doesn't always form into blisters. I get it rarely now, but when I do it's raised red splotches that hurt (not much itching). Sometines a sore that appears alone will blister after a day or two, but not always. They look like the picture of the breakout on the person's back about halfway down this article (though thankfully, never this bad):

I remember someone saying in a DH thread that the condition can vary somewhat and present a little differently from celiac to celiac.

Food fer thought!

Actually, it would be good if Tel's rash WAS DH........then you'd know what it was! :)

Amanda--do you mean a veggie garden or flowers?

In general, you should wait until after the last frost for flowers, shrubs and things like that. I'm not too familiar with veggie gardens. I used to have one years ago....there are a couple things I think you can plant early, but I used to have tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and lettuce--and those I planted in probably mid-late May.

You can get the ground ready earlier, though--if you need to till. That way you'll be all set to go when it gets warm enough.

I'm sure other green-thumbed sillies will be of more help :D

I have tried 5 times to reply and everytime someone comes to my desk and interrupts me..... can't they see I am busy!!!

I am planting tomatoes, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, maybe lettuce but in the front of the house I am planting flowers (not sure what) and by the fence and back porch some sunflowers. I am excited!!!!

My av is simply in need of a updating.

My plans are coming together for the FL trip for my mom. We are heading there for mothers day weekend. I am glad I held off on plane tickets. Now Southwest has one way tickets for $55. Originally it was 69 which was still cheap. I can't way. We are going to take her for a ride to the Keys. :):)

How exciting! Yes, there are some very good deals on plane tickets especially if you can get them well ahead of time.

I'm here. That is, I'm back...

I once was lost but now am found.

We have been having trouble for a while with our internet connection at home. After multiple calls to 1-800-Call-India, I got to talk to somebody on the same continent that I am on yesterday, and it was determined that perhaps we really did have a problem. A technician was scheduled to come out and look at the circuit from our end.

Good news, part one. The appointment was for between 5 and 9 pm. He called at 6:15 to confirm, and arrived about ten minutes later.

He was on site for about two hours, doing all sorts of different tests. We are a good distance from the telephone company central office, near the limits of DSL technology. The wiring in our neighboUrhood is over thirty years old (as is the wiring in the house). Problems happen.

Good news, part two. Once it was established that the problem was theirs, the tech added some balancing equipment to our end of the circuit, and some changes were made to their end.

I'm back. :) :)

Gross me oot the door. .. .... :o

So, did you finish him off, Jess? This would be a truly horrid situation for me. Being presented with a dead rat is bad, but I would just need to wrap it up in newspaper (about a million pieces) and throw it into the garbage bag. Now, an alive one.....

I couldn't just do that. I would have to kill it...... .... . ...or leave it alone to die on its own. . . .....or keep trying to entice the cat to finish the job. . ... . . . ..

Not good. My cats seem to know that I would have great trouble with a gravely wounded creature. Anything they have brought me has always been dead. Totally. Not twitching, even . . . ...

 I cowered in the middle of my bed yelling EEWWWW GET HIM!

He was pretty near the end already...

If the critter looks like a fresh toy, I try to liberate it. If it looks like they've been playing together for a while, I just stay out of it. I figure the worst has already transpired for the victim, and it's kinder to let the cat bring about the end, rather than leaving the prey to die slowly out in the cold. (Yes, I have thought through this)

It was indeed.

No sun this morning, but very mild. Off to work shortly.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
