My son's team made it to the First Robotics finals & got 2nd place! (57 teams) :P I was so proud as he has done most of the designing & building of the mechanicals for the last 3 years.

Very cool!! :)

Kherrighnne, that is terrific about your super-smart boy! Good for him! My son is also very interested in this kind of thing -- LOVED Lego and K'neks, building intricate things with moving parts......I do SO hope he will set his sights on becoming an artificial joint designer/engineer, as I will eventually enter my senior years and hope to still be running....... . . . ..

You sound like me Saturday night, I'm still recovering today

Happy Monday everyone!!! I shall be grocery shopping and finishing laundry, and driving kids to karate and gymnastics and making lunches and snacks and dinner and cleaning kitchen and bathrooms and bathing the son and making sure the daughter gets all the soap out of her hair and making sure everyone has some of my attention today and getting a 2nd workout in and.........I'm exhausted already, I think I need a nap, oh wait, that's not on my list <_<

And now I'm feeling super guilty cuz there are the cutest little squirrels in the tree outside my bedroom window jumping and playing--the tree's coming down this afternoon :(

One of the guys who started First robotics is Dean Kamen who is known for inovations in artificial limbs.

I don't think I would want to be yelled at by a Jyesss with a sore 'ead

And I assigned the task of colouring my hair to an expert; somehow or other it looks more "natural" that way. Besides she makes me capucchinos while the colour is taking :D I pay for this little extravagance by cutting Clay's hairs in return, those that are left  -- well, quite a few actually, and he won't entrust them to anyone else :P

Karreign, very cool about your son's robotics expertise. It just amazes me what kids can do, also the things they get chances to do these days. All we ever got to do at school was cook, and sew pinnies.

Iffen Em keeps running she will probably need one of them artyfeeshall jointy things

Here's a question to ponder:

Last nite, Hub scrubbed the grill since we haven't used it since I've been gluten-free. He said no Gluten could still be on there. He wondered what a Gluten would look like. I thought round lite blue with little spikes all round & a smile on its wee face. He thought it would look like Java the Hut from Star Wars. What do you think a Gluten looks like?

Very cosmopolitan, Shroom B)

Hmmmm......have to think on what the most annoying pain in the butt too small to see but always lurking and ready to throw me fer a loop at any given moment might look like......

Doncha just get tired of it all sometimes :(

I saw the doc today . . . yay, I was surprised. He thought asthma. So I had a lung capacity test (or sumptin like that) and I passed with phlying coloUrs with a 129% . . . I could tell he was impressed that I could really blow.

Jahghnet really blows!!

But looks much better this morning, so maybe my flesh won't rot off after all.

Shroomie doing loopty loops, but at least she's not rotting :o

I apparently need to kick myself in the forehead butt and change my attitude . . . I was much funnier two years ago . . . perhaps

I KNOW I was much funnier 2 years ago. I think I left my psilly in TexASS :(

Patteigh......could you please send out a search party?

Did I tell you guys that I've lost 30 pounds in the last 2 1/2 months?

Ooooh.....maybe they're actually little teenie Twa vibrators :D

Geez......all y'all and your lists........looks more like my list of things I OUGHTA do!

Believe it or not psills, but THE one year anniversary is almost here. Been fighting sinking into the abyss. Went dancing yesterday and was EXACTLY what I needed!! :) Still on a high today. I'm thinking about trying out Salsa dancing on Thursday to get me through the rest of the week.

My son will be having a party

That's OK for him I guess.........he was in a coma through a lot of it, so he doesn't have much to remember :P

I was thinking about that the last few days actually. I've missed seeing you and wondered if you were having a hard time. I remember seeing you and your family at the hospital last year and your son while in the coma, and I have to say that these days I smile every time I see him and M happily posting about their plans and everyday life over on da book. :)

It's not surprising that this anniversary would affect you, Leesigh. I don't see how it couldn't. I'm glad you have your dancing to lift your spirits for a little while at least.

Love to all of you--what an inspiring bunch you are.

 It was so great to see you in Texas....bringing me food!!!! How awesome is that!

He is such a busy bee these days isn't he?.....doing all the things he couldn't do last year.....all the things that got put on hold.

Brian and I went to a sport and travel show a couple weeks ago and looked at motorcycles

He bought a new leather biker jacket to replace the one that got cut off B)

I have finally reached a point in my dancing where I can keep up with the better dancers ( we're talking about guys here), and sometimes it's like being caught in a whirlwind! They've figured out that I'm easy to spin! And.....the better dancers like to dip :P

Boy, THAT'S for sure! Leeeeesargh, how great to see you posting! :) :) It has been a while, and I was wondering if it indeed was actually a whole year ago that your family was stricken as it was. I was going to go back in the psilly posts to a year ago to check, but I just couldn't. . ... . ... . ..too sad. But it is GREAT to hear that dancing is bringing you through it! And Brian's new jacket - - awesome.

I did actually find something that she was consuming that had barly in it. I didn't realize it until late January but I know for a fact that she had quit consuming it WEEKS earlier because SHE said it bothered her. So part of me wonders if this all was just her system spiraling out of control after the fact. When she was first diagnosed, she continued to have sporadic regurgitation problems (not this severe) for about 10 months (the last two of which was really minor). At the time I was about to take away the dairy and we took her off all meds so that I could see what symptoms (and severity)were being masked. At the same time, I put her on a probiotic because one of the meds she was on was a long term low dose antibiotic and I thought maybe her gut was out of balance. Things cleared up (slowly) after that without ever removing (or reducing) the dairy intake.

In regards to dairy, would you expect an immediate response upon ingestion and you would need to ingest it at that meal? Or do you think it's a cummulative sort of thing that needs to build up and reach some sort of threshold? How quick to see a response to its removal?

Smackl grabbed one of Skeeter's new phake cheese slices for a snack and gagged on it, yelling "what is this?" "something's wrong with this!!!" "this is nasty!!!" . . . now, it was kind of funny because he was totally caught off-guard but at the same time, she's listening to him call her phood nasty :(

I'm baaaaack, sorry for the delay, I have limited medical resources at home and I only work 3 days a week...

Did they actually test her for gastroparesis? Has she had the gastric emptying study or the Barium swallow to rule out a sticture somewhere?

Is she normal height/weight for her age?

Any inner ear problems? Vertigo or dizziness?

The one common thing I keep running across is "food allergy" over and over. If there is something getting into her system that she is allergic to, the body's defense is to get rid of it asap. Can be gluten, dairy, or anything else that she may be sensitive to.

Did you google CVS? What did you think?

Got almost everything I needed/wanted to accomplish done yesterday, feeling good. Went to give Max a bath and I had sent him up to the bathrrom to disrobe and potty, weeellll, my bathroom is like a playgound for him. All the bottles, tubes, cans, etc... and apparently I left him a little too long. He had emptied the can of dh's shaving cream all over the counter and tried to clean it up with a pair of socks  and then blamed the whole thing on his sister  Sooooo, this morning I overslept, woke up 15 minutes before I needed to leave the house and I grabbed my toothbrush and started brushing away. All of a sudden, my mouth was foaming up and it tasted like I was eating soap :o I rinsed my mouth a million times (it still tastes like soap 3 hours later).

In the car I said,

"Max, did you put soap on my toothbrush?"

Pause

"Uh, soap?? Uh no, no soap..."

Me

"What did you put on my toothbrush? I really need to know what was in my mouth"

pause

"Uhhhhhhh"

Me

"Don't worry, you're not in trouble..."

pause

"You know that stuff I got all over the counter last night..."

Mmmmmm, brushed my teeth with shaving cream this morning <_<

I take Now B-1 (100 mg) Thiamine Hydrochloride, and Amazing Formulas L-Tryptophan (1000 mg).   Both are gluten free and free of other allergens.  I've taken them for a long time and haven't had a problem with them. I take Vitamin A from BioTech called "A-25".  It's gluten and allergen free and made in the USA.  It's a powder form of Vitamin A.  I was having trouble digesting fats at one point, but found I tolerated the powder form much better and have stuck with it since.   Tryptophan and Vitamin A help heal the intestines as well as improves skin health.  I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis and eczema flairs when my stomach is upset.  So I'm healing the outside as well as the inside.   I take one 1000 mg Tryptophan before bedtime.   With the Thiamine HCl, take 100 mg to start.  If you don't notice anything, three hours later take another. You can keep increasing your dose in this manner until you do notice improvement.  Remember not to take it in the evening so it won't keep you too energized to sleep. When I first started Thiamine HCl, taking 500 mg to 1000 mg to start was recommended.  If you've been thiamine insufficient for a while, you do notice a big difference.  It's like the start of a NASCAR race: Zoom, Zoom, turn it up!   This scared or made some people uncomfortable, but it's just your body beginning to function properly, like putting new spark plugs in your engine.  I took 1000 mg all at once without food.  It kicked in beautifully, but I got a tummy ache, so take with food.  I added in Thiamine TTFD and Benfotiamine weeks later and felt like I was Formula One racing.  So cool.  You may feel worse for a couple days as your body adjusts to having sufficient thiamine.  Feels sort of like you haven't cranked your engine for a while and it backfires and sputters, but it will settle down and start purring soon enough.  Adjust your dose to what feels right for you, increasing your dose as long as you feel improvement.  You can reach a plateau, so stay there for several days, then try bumping it up again.  If no more improvements happen, you can stay at the plateau amount and experiment with increasing your Thiamine TTFD.  It's like being your own lab rat.  LoL Yes, take one Benfotiamine at breakfast and one at lunch.  Take the B Complex at breakfast. Take the TTFD at breakfast and lunch as well.  I like to take the vitamins at the beginning of meals and the NeuroMag at the end of meals.   You may want to add in some zinc.  I take Thorne Zinc 30 mg at breakfast at the beginning of the meal.   Are you getting sufficient Omega Threes?  Our brains are made up mostly of fat.  Flaxseed oil supplements, sunflower seed oil supplements (or eat the seeds themselves) can improve that.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil is also helpful.   @Wheatwacked likes phosphotidyl choline supplements for his Omega Threes.  He's also had dramatic health improvement by supplementing thiamine.  You're doing great!  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  This path will smooth out.  Keep going!

good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.
    • catnapt
I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.
    • xxnonamexx
What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks
    • trents
I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.
