Hmmm... . .seventies....seventies...........like, WAY before my time.. . ... .. . . .....<_<

This will have to be close enough - - very early eighties... .. . ......my fave.. . . . ..

You're old enough some people say

To read the signs and walk away.

It's only time that heals the pain

And makes the sun come out again... . . .......

I've always felt that the lyrics to this song are utterly appropriate to the sillies:

With the lights out, it's less dangerous

Here we are now, entertain us

I feel stupid and contagious

Here we are now, entertain us

A mulatto, an albino

A mosquito, my libido

Yeah, hey, yay

So I grew up in the nineties.....

He and his wife have performed all over the world.

The wedding was a few years ago in NY. There were fireworks at the reception.

Good morning! It looks to be a beautiful spring day. An about to go out into the "forest" with a bunch of 5th graders as they take pictyres of geometric shapes in nature.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle,

the lion sleeps tonight...

Ok...if we are lucky & the noisy kids don't scare every animal in a 3 county area... we might see a deer.

Beautiful spring day my butt. New England's about to become an island! Jeez.... How do people not learn after watching all the other stupid people who've gotten their cars stuck in standing water on the news? They just keep telling themselves, oh, that barricade doesn't apply to me, or oh, that water's only a few inches deep... I have to get to Aunty Edna's with this apple pie... And then we have to spend all our freakin taxpayers money rescuing your dumb a$$es!!!!

Here's my fave song of theirs...

The lyrics are fantastic!!, and seemed to ring true in my teen angsty years...

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour

But heaven knows I'm miserable now

I was looking for a job, and then I found a job

And heaven knows I'm miserable now

In my life

Why do I give valuable time

To people who don't care if I live or die ?

I do it to help kids learn to appreciate the enviroment & nature. Its fun to see an 8 year old who won't get near a bug - catching them & examing them & forgetting they are supposed to be afraid. Showing 8th graders how to test for what's in the water that is going into our drinking water, etc,

Either that or the celiac disease has given me permanent brain damage.

Howdy Peeps . . . Happy April Fools Day!!

Summary of the last couple of days:

Peeling and dicing rutabagas for three hours with 3 other misguided women (whilst drinking just a bit of wine) in an effort to provide a sample of a vegetable they have never tried to about 600 elementary school kids.

Serving above rutabagas (now roasted) to 600 ungreatful elementary school kids. I got to bring home some leftovers but I can't stand to look at them.

Vomitousness from Skeeter . . . pretty much on her biweekly schedule . . . fine and dandy today.

Hiding eggs (in plain sight) for a bunch of two year olds . . . then helping them "find" them.

Visiting me neighbor (a lovely British lady) in the hospital . . . her appendix burst - apparently the day before she finally gave in and went to the emergency room . . . Having some not so good complications, but looks like she may be (finally) turning the corner.

Working on Skeeter's Independent Study Project . . . did I mention that it's suppose to be 3 pages typed . . . did I mention she has to give a 5 to 7 minute presentation . . . did I mention she's nine . . . BAH!!!

Kids are out on Spring Break as of about 3 hours ago!!

I know that sprinkling table salt in your carpets chases fleas away, maybe there's something like that out there for ants?

kareng Grand Master

OH . . . and I forgot to mention . . . I'm waging a war on a major ant infestation. They're the small little ants. I always called them sugar ants. The exterminator called them piss-ants.

We are dealing with "random ants". That's what the High School kids are calling them. Everyone has them this year. Random ants are the 2 or 3 you see in weird places looking for food. If they find it, they go home & tell the others. This is the first year we have had really big ones in the house. When the sugar ants got bad a couple of years ago, I went outside & found where they come in. Then I followed them back to the nests. Dug up the nests & poured Dawn dishwashing soap & lots of water. Really reduced them for several years.

A thick line of Borax keeps them from crossing it but it only takes a small space in the powder line & they can get in.

Borax & Dawn are safe for the enviroment.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
