My dad tells how his mother used to cook rabbits and chickens that she raised in her backyard. Used to butcher them herself--she died when I was 4, but she musta been a tough broad :P

This, um.... . . . . ..reminds me somewhat of MIL. Dunno if I have ever mentioned here how she was able to euthanize her beloved pet cat herself. Yes, she "put Ginger to sleep", by placing the old, arthritic cat in a plastic bag and tying it up. Apparently only took a minute.. . . . . . ... :huh:

See, it woulda cost $170.00 to take Ginger in and have it done by the vet.. . ..can you imagine?? $170.00??! Abominable! Won't be paying for THAT... .. . . .....

This, um.... . . . . ..reminds me somewhat of MIL. Dunno if I have ever mentioned here how she was able to euthanize her beloved pet cat herself. Yes, she "put Ginger to sleep", by placing the old, arthritic cat in a plastic bag and tying it up. Apparently only took a minute.. . . . . . ... :huh:

Apparently I'm the cruel one in our house because one of the mice that I caught on a glue trap was soooooo stuck that we couldn't pry him off and let him go in the park (yeah, that actually worked once), So I filled up an old bucket with water and dropped the thing in-only lasted about 30 seconds. This, I have been chastized for. Husband, however, threw the last one away in the trash--still alive, still stuck to the board, to starve to death--and I'm the cruel one?! :blink:

Some guy came into our ER last night and lit himself on fire-in the waiting room! Luckily staff extinguished himself and they had to transport him out to another hospital with a burn unit, but good Gawd!!! Twas a suicide attempt, but I think that's the dumbest way to try to kill yerselph....More than likely you will survive and you'll be in horrid pain for the rest of yer life!

Some guy came into our ER last night and lit himself on fire-in the waiting room! Luckily staff extinguished himself and they had to transport him out to another hospital with a burn unit, but good Gawd!!! Twas a suicide attempt, but I think that's the dumbest way to try to kill yerselph....More than likely you will survive and you'll be in horrid pain for the rest of yer life!

Did not see it. Coworker did. My office is right above the ER, I'll make a pass thru right now and come back to report any unusualalities ;)

Well, the rain has begun. I am supposed to go to the stadium and put up banners. So looking forward to doing that in the rain! :huh:

So, I know when your nose runs it's called 'rhinorrhea'. When your arse runs it's called 'diarrhea'. But what is it when your eyes run? My eyes have been pouring clear liquid from the outter corners all morning and it's driving me CRAZY!!!

I dunno.....our beloved Bunnie might have something to say about it. Would not be surprised if we got one of her infrequent poop-ins about now :unsure:

I hope you all don't mind if I pop in from time to time.

Haven't had time to read this thread today. Filling out medical releases for my next test (they're scaring me), yelling at a company that took my money and hasn't shipped the overpriced product, and I'm cooking my husband rabbit stew (Is it What's Up Doc or Fatal Attraction)? He spent a great deal of his childhood in Spain and they caught, skinned and cooked rabbits. I bought one at the Farmer's Market yesterday and it looked like a roast. When I went to cut it, it was a whole skinned rabbit AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! It does smell good. It's supposed to taste like chicken. He deserves a treat because he's been beyond supportive. I put in things that I can eat. I can't help feeling I murdered Bugs Bunny. Am I still allowed here?

My son would not be happy about the rabbit. We have three as pets. He won't even eat fish because he likes them.

Oh yeah B)

Going back to the songs - How bout the Kinks song Lola L o l a Lola. I listen to the radio when I take a shower and it was on today. Now I can't get it out of my head. I was lucky enough to see the Kinks at the Starlight Ballroom one New Year's Eve (brain fog I think I already posted about it) and man were they amazing. One of the many songs they played was Lola.

With the name Lois I've been called LoLo, Lola, Loey (that one came from my hubby and has stuck for 22 years) and let's not forget all the people who spell my name Louis (and no I don't walk like a woman and talk like a man).

I hope you all don't mind if I pop in from time to time.

Haven't had time to read this thread today. Hey.. . . . . . ....is he single? Think he and my MIL might be a match made in heaven. . . . . ..

However, MIL swerves to avoid pedestrians and animals, and has been unsuccessful on occasion. At least it has never been while she was driving MY car. She has only smashed into the kids' bikes, our big lamp-post, DH's car and many snowbanks while in my vehicle... . . . . ..no people as yet, so I am considered pretty fortunate. :huh:<_<

P.S. What does ph34r.gif mean?

Low-ihss! That little emoticon signifies the desire to stand in front of a net and block pucks, as it looks very like my daughter's face when she stands in full helmeted and padded regalia, staring down the opposing forward as she comes screaming down the ice toward her.. . . .... . :rolleyes:

Actually, it really DOES look like her li'l face.. . . . . ....! :lol:

      Desperately need a vitamin D supplement. I've reacted to most brands I've tried.

      Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free. I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree...

      Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep. One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem. Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read,...

      Unexpected gluten exposure risk from cultivated mushrooms

      Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms. I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free. Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative. In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken. Major mistake!

      Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

      highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

      Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.
