I though perhaps your name was pronounced differently than the standard "Karen". With the g added I had made it "Car-Eng-Gee" said really fast in my mind.

Here's a secret- The G is the start of my last name

In my brain I call her both 'Caring' and Ka-regn (like Bahrain).

And don't ever just use the letter K instead of the whole OK or I think you are talking to me? OK? Hub & sis call me K

I used to work with someone named "Kay" and she had this problem too. Whenever I said Okay, even if not talking to her she thought I was talking to her. It was very confusing at times.

If you must have a name besides Manna, y'all can call me Irene. Will that one be sufficient butchering material? :D

Why, yes, that will be sufficient . . . welcome Eye-Reane!

Yes, yes! Sounds so musical and lovely, rather Suessian.. .. . ..."Ker-en-jee, Ker-en-jee".. .. . . ...skipping along.. . . . ...

Hey! And what a coincidence! For our Kherrighnne is really caring... . . . ...and... . . .well, perhaps she is also from Bahrain, too! She could have moved to the States as a child. .. . . . .....notice that we've never seen a pic of her face.... . . . . .

Isn't Bahrain one of those countries where everyone gets a share of the oil money? Too bad I'm not from there.

You have a very good likeness of me in my current av. My hair is more straight & flat. That's about the only dif.

so it's red?

kareng Grand Master

so it's red?

Not orange but darker & a bit brownish. At this point in my life, it depends on how long since I last colored. ;)

There is a pic of me on my profile.

And, yes.... That is my real butt.

Loey Rising Star

Well, that is great timing, then... . . ....buying new jeans when you feel puny makes anything you try on look decent, I'd bet... . . . ..

I never feel puny. Particularly when I've been glutened - - then I feel HUGE. Phat, bloated... . . . . ..gargantuan. <_<

Hope you're feeling better right quick, Mannnna... . . .

Loey! Um .. . . . ....what is ANA?. . . . . . ... .. . .

Hello dear pfiends.

ANA is an autoimmune disease and can cause Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis. He's had chronic joint pain for years that he's attributed to working out & Martial Arts. We're going to the doctor with him tomorrow. I'm sure that Tony will blame it on dear old mom.

Meanwhile I must have been drinking with you all - I fell last night. Clark thought I was sleepwalking. He & Tony heard a thud & Clark ran up and found me asleep on the floor. Of course my back feels horrible. Seeing my chiropractor in the AM.

Hope everyone is pheeling well -

i miss you!!!

All right, sb2178.. . . . ...the unofficial edict around here is that we need your real name, or a close proximity, so that we can rightly butcher it and make it psilly. Kherrighnne, Jyaghnutt, Jyesssss, Low, leeeesargh, Gnick, Soooooozle, etc.

Suppose we could just sillify your forum name, but it somehow isn't quite as funny.

Stephanie. I yield that bit of info with the requirement that it NOT become step-on-me. irg. Can you just imagine the flat "I'm not amused look" that I gave to school photograph photographers for years on end?

Psillify it otherwise freely. (Pstephanie? too many syllables, perhaps?)

Lacking the wine, I'm going to go make myself a gin and tonic. And I might be back with it.

Ummm . . . we don't actually change your name . . . we just spell it fo-net-ick-lee. We like to use lots of silent letters like g's and h's etc . . . if you mispronounce our spelling, well that's all on you, Ghstefphunee. :P:lol:

Stymphony?

Jestgar Rising Star

I is happily sunburnt. Garden has a slug barrier around it. Trees have been uprooted from the gutters. Assorted unknown vegetative things ripped out and waiting to dry out in the sun. Piles of plastic pots from things that died last year have been tossed.

Startin' on the wine now.

sb2178 Enthusiast

Stymphony, I could like it. Bob's out-- bob is the (invisible) frisbee player who never seems to catch or return it. We think he has issues (shhhh....).

my garden was still overly damp to do more than sneak and handful of spinach and a few peas... sigh.

My gin and tonic is delish tho.

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
