Stymphony, I could like it. Bob's out-- bob is the (invisible) frisbee player who never seems to catch or return it. We think he has issues (shhhh....).

my garden was still overly damp to do more than sneak and handful of spinach and a few peas... sigh.

My gin and tonic is delish tho.

My son was trying to play frisbee at the senior picnic. He said he had never seen a more pathetic group of frisbee players. We didn't realize that Bob & his cousins - Rob, Robbie, Bobby & Bobbie were playing. That explains alot.

Do Bob & his cousins play other sports, too?

Absolutely - - Bob shows up whenever I step on a tennis or squash court. . . ... <_<

The only team/group/projectile-based* sport that Bob hasn't joined me has been croquet. Not sure why he doesn't like it...

*we avoid discussing ball sports, as it seems in induce snickers even in those who are old enough to simply twitch their eye brows appropriately at the pun.

I believe Bob has played a few times on my boys lacrosse teams.

J's summer job report:

He gets a desk & a computer in a room with others in "short" cubicles (you can see over the top if you are tallish).

He has learned that:

-When the boss leaves, a ball is tossed around the office

- Call in sick if the weather is nice

- If you use a germaphobe's computer, expect him to spend 15 minutes cleaning the keyboard, desk, area around the desk and then 10 minutes of handwashing

- 18 year olds hired to do thier jobs must be geninuses

Great....

I used to work next to a germiphobe (sort of?) who worked from home some days. She quite thoroughly cleaned her desk area the day after she had worked from home. But she used hand sanitizer, not actual hand washing.

We call it "working from home" although, I will admit, there are some days when working from home also means working 12 hour days and not getting around to showering, as one was too busy working. Or working on official snow days... or holidays... or when one is actually sick.

Hmm... I could use a few genius underlings. But of the sort who are very focused... is that a cotnradiction in terms?

Hmmmm . . . so it wasn't a cute little nickname when the kids used to call me Bob in highschool?

Yeah! right! He was watching re- runs of The Office and saying, " Yeah! That happens!". " this is just like my office"

Apparently, there are men in the office who can make an entire sentence out of cuss words. He finds this hysterical.

He is very focussed if the job deals with machinery or physics or sports or food. My other is extremely focussed if the job requires animal care, making fires, cooking over a fire, video games, canoeing, etc

I'm so happy for J. Tony is working a graveyard shift washing dishes. We didn't lean on him to get a job before last summer and we got here too late for him to find one Now he's facing the cruel reality of most first jobs..

BTW, he bought the three of us Bare Naked Ladies tickets as a combination of a mother's and father's day present.

Oh, that's phab, Low!! They put on a GREEEEEEAAAT show - - so much fun!

DD's part-time job at Wallyworld sounds not a whole lot better than washing dishes, but at least she has the constant flow of P.O.W's (People of Walmart) lined up at her cash to keep her visually entertained.

Many of them could climb up on a stage and be just as entertaining as The Bare Naked Ladies.... . . .

Hey . . . I did nae know your DD was working WallyWorld . . . is she the one that keeps taking the pictures and sending them out for the world to see? . . . Did the cross-dresser with the pink mohawk go through her line?

No Mohawk Guy yet... . . .. but remember, it is now thong season, and the Thong POWs are surfacing. I've told her to try to take pics while she's on break.

Actually, I'd like to know where the bulk of the POW pics that are circulated around in emails are taken. . . ...I don't think we have enough of the splendor here in Ottawa to be contributing to the mailouts, for Sophie says that there isn't much to photograph.

...Just individuals with eighty packages of Christie's Double Chunk Cookies stuffed into their carts. . ...... . .... well, hey, they were on sale last week. .. . ... .

Ya don't want to miss a good sale. Especially the double chunk.

I fear I have the potential to become a POW - our new condo has two huge pantries - looks like one specially designed for double chunk sales

I believe that many of the POW pics are taken at the Walmarts in Branson & Osage beach, Mo. This is typical beach/ summer clothing styles for the Ozark vacation land.

Shrooomie,

Are you staying in ICV, NV again?

If Shroomie goes to the Walmart on the Calif side, the slippers are over dressing. Barefoot is the style.

No, we have decamped from ICV because my COPD could no longer handle the altitude - we now have a Wallyworld only a couple of miles away :rolleyes: but haven't unpacked my thongs or shorts, need my flip-flops because the sidewalks are too durned hot, but I need to get my tats touched up before I am ready for full POW exposure. Give me a chance to put the whole act together and I will try to grace the next POW collection.

Hi! I had my first episode of AFib last May when I was 30 (I have had some heart stuff my whole life but nothing this extreme). I was not diagnosed with celiac until the beginning of this month in October of 2025. I was in the early stages of celiac, so I'm not sure if they were related (maybe!) All of my heart tests came back normal except for my electrolytes (potassium and magnesium) that were low when the AFib occurred. I also became pregnant with our third and last baby a couple weeks after I came back from that hospital stay. I had no heart complications after that whole thing. And I still haven't over a year later. It was definitely scary and I hope it doesn't happen again. I drink an electrolyte drink mix about every day, and I'm sure being on a gluten-free diet will help my body even more! I will pray for you in this. Taking care of our bodies is so challenging but Jesus is with us every step of the way. He cares and He sees you!

I followed the Autoimmune Protocol Diet which is really strict for a while, but later other foods can be added back into your diet.  Following the AIP diet strictly allows you digestive system to heal and the inflammation to calm down.  Sort of like feeding a sick baby easy to digest food instead of spicy pizza.   It's important to get the inflammation down because chronic inflammation leads to other health problems.  Histamine is released as part of the autoimmune response to gluten.  High histamine levels make you feel bad and can cause breathing problems (worsening asthma), cardiovascular problems (tachycardia), and other autoimmune diseases (Hashimoto's thyroiditis, diabetes) and even mental health problems. Following the low histamine version of the AIP diet allows the body to clear the histamine from our bodies.  Some foods are high in histamine.  Avoiding these makes it easier for our bodies to clear the histamine released after a gluten exposure.   Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and calm it down.  Vitamin D is frequently low in Celiacs.  The B Complex vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine.   Supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals boosts your intestines' ability to absorb them while healing.   Keep in mind that gluten-free facsimile foods, like gluten-free bread, are not enriched with added vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts are.   They are empty calories, no nutritional value, which use up your B vitamins in order to turn the calories into fuel for the body to function.   Talk to your doctor or nutritionist about supplementing while healing.  Take a good B Complex and extra Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine (shown to promote gut health).  Most B Complex vitamins contain thiamine mononitrate which the body cannot utilize.  Meats and liver are good sources of B vitamins.   Dr. Sarah Ballantyne wrote the book, the Paleo Approach.  She's a Celiac herself.  Her book explains a lot.   I'm so glad you're feeling better and finding your balance!

So I should not eat my gluten free bread?  I will try the vitamins.  Thank you all so very much for your ideas and understanding.  I'm feeling better today and have gathered back my composure!

Some people prefer eating gluten before bed, then sleeping through the worst symptoms at night.  You might want to try that and see if that makes any difference.   Several slices of toast for breakfast sounds okay.  Just try to work up to the Ten grams of gluten.  Cookies might only have a half of a gram of gluten.  The weight of the whole cookie is not the same as the amount of gluten in it.  So do try to eat bread things with big bubbles, like cinnamon rolls.   Yeah, I'm familiar with the "death warmed over" feeling.  I hope you get the genetic test results quickly.  I despise how we have to make ourselves sick to get a diagnosis.  Hang in there, sweetie, the tribe is supporting you.
