We have a little big emperor penguin called Happy Feet - is he the one you're talking about, Lisarrrgh? He can go outside right now because we is having a blizzard down under. They are still trying to figure out how to get him back to Antartica

Mygosh.. . . . ... . .....Leeeesargh...... . . ..Jyaghnutt.. . . . .:unsure:...were either of you at the Indiana State Fair today?.... . . . .

Twas not there. I was outside when the storm hit though. It got all dark and spooky and we were making comments that it look like it would be a doosie or somtin' and then it hit in an instant and we ran for cover.

So the money in my bank acount is no accident. Seems I should've been getting interpreter's pay and I wasn't because I had been told I had to be certified.

Therefore, my hourly rate has increased by approximately $5/hr........and it's retro-active. (I need a party face!)

All Right!!! Party at Lisa's house!!! That's fantastic news. Nothing like an unexpected windfall . . . plus a kick-ass raise. What's the sign for "kick-ass?"

Glad your not with us! 680 miles would take twice as long. We have places where the rest stops are about 1 hour apart. Someone once planted wheat here and there is a bunch growing on the side of the road! Not a good place to potty!

Oh - I didn't know that movie was called "Happy Feet" Duh!!!!

Anyway, this Happy Feet is on his way home: (snip)

Happy Feet, who has lived at Wellington Zoo since he was found on Peka Peka beach, would be released in the Southern Ocean four days into the ship's month-long trip to the Campbell Islands, 700km south of New Zealand.

Wellington Zoo's manager of veterinary science Lisa Argilla, assisted by two Niwa staff, would accompany the penguin on the voyage.

Happy Feet would be housed in a travel crate, designed to keep him cold and comfortable during the four days, Wellington Zoo chief executive Karen Fifield said.

The penguin would be released 53 degrees south "which is within the natural range of juvenile emperor penguins - they are often spotted on Campbell Island which lies at the same latitude''.

"This is an excellent result for everyone involved, and for the penguin, and is a great example of organisations working together for the best outcome,'' Ms Fifield said

Happy Feet would be fitted with a GPS tracker before he left Wellington to record his movements.

J is moved into college. We spent a good part of the day, getting all the things we couldn't bring from home! The dorms are really nice and large for a dorm room. They can raise the beds so that stuff fits under. He wanted shelves to go under the bed. Does he want expensive wood shelves? Cute plastic or painted wood cubes? The "dorm" shelves and plastic drawers all the other kids have? Of course not! We went to the hardware store and got black plastic garage shelves. Surprise anyone? :)

Kherrighnne, when do J's classes start? Must be earlier than Sophie -- her first official day is September 6th. We move her in on the 3rd.

J's classes start on Monday. We ae going Labor Day weekend to bring his.winter clothes, etc. Did you see the pics on FB of the decorating style? It is Target Bag with a touch of Walmart bag and beer boxes! He did say he put his sheets on his bed. Didn't say it it was before he went to bed last night or after he got up.

I have integrated my chickens. Woke up in the middle of the night to go out and stuff the two big girls into the little kids' coop. They were not "zombie chickens" as the chicken forum promised, but were instead quite irritated at being woken up and dragged out of their little house.

Nevertheless, I set them in the new coop and let them figure out the roost thing on their own. Looked out this morning and saw the little kids, but not the big girls. Went out to find that they're still in the coop, all pissed off, and the little silkie is trapped behind them. Figured I'd leave it and just listen for bloodshed for a while.

Took some sunflower seeds out (The BESTEST TREAT EVAH!!!) and spread them around. After many suspicious glares, the big girls came out. I hear an occasional SQWAAAAK from outside, but nuthin too terrible.

Everybody survived the first day of integration. Last evening the little kids put themselves to bed and the big girls were frantically trying to get out to go to their own coop. The little roo, who's usually the last one in apparently couldn't settle down while there were helpless females that needed his protection. Never mind that these damsels would beat the crap outta him given the chance.... He kept hopping out of the coop, running around, and running back up the ramp. Maybe he was trying to show them where to go? Anyway, I gave up and went inside, but went to check on them after dark. Everybody safely in the coop, big girls sitting on the floor.

We used Skype to talk to J at college the other night. It was nice to see him. So far he has managed to play indoor soccer, indoor rock wall climbing, ping pong, video games, Late night party at Target, and girls are making him cookies in the downstairs common kitchen. Think he has gone to classes. :unsure:

Tonight we will be Skypeing so that he can choose some sports shorts that he left at home. We will be visiting Labor day weekend. He has found he needs more than the 3 pairs he took with him if he wishes to do the laundry only every 2 weeks.

here's something amazing: When they do laundry, the machine will text them when its finished. :D

Might work better to make his brother wear them. Or just hold them up? I think he actually wants me to give him money in his account to go to Kohl's and get some of the cool $28 ones. Which he will promptly rip on the climbing wall or catch in the chain on his bike.

Almost every kid living on or off that campus has a bike. The ones that don't can borrow bikes that the city owns.

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again

      This may be the problem. Every time you eat gluten it is like giving a booster shot to your immune system, telling it to react and produce antibodies again.

      Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin (3) and low vitamin D (10). I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get...

      Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin (3) and low vitamin D (10). Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test? So I did quit gluten and had the biopsy. It was negative for celiacs. I continued gluten free with iron supps and my ferritin came back up to a reasonable, but not great level of around 30-35.  Could there be something else going on? Is there any reason why my antibodies would be high (>80) with a negative biopsy? could me intestines have healed that quickly (3 months)?  I'm having a hard time staying gluten free because I am asymptomatic and i'm wondering about that biopsy. I do have the celiacs gene, and all of the antibody tests have always come back high. I recently had them tested again. Still very high. I am gluten free mostly, but not totally. I will occasionally eat something with gluten, but try to keep to a minimum. It's really hard when the immediate consequences are nil.  with high antibodies, the gene, but a negative biopsy (after 3 months strict gluten-free), do i really have celiacs? please say no. lol. i think i know the answer.  Asa
