Emily . . . sweet shot of the snoozen poochez :D

OK . . . the Bob's Red Mill corn bread did NOT go over. I was really pleased with the appearance and the taste was fine (although I'm not much of a corn bread person) . . . but everyone thought the corn meal was too coarse. Hubby prefers the sweeter corn cake bread.

Sillies- well how to start--I am scared. I think I have a very masty sinus infection but it has the worst and scariest symptoms. 2 weekends ago I had this nasty headache- like none other. It actually stopped in my tracks and I had to lie down and take a nap- fort. it was a weekend. Small headaches all through audit week and so I attributed to the stress of it all. I had gotten the Z-pak the Thrusday before audit week for a sinus infection. So the Z-pak has been over for over a week now- going on 2 weeks. Last night while out with the friends another nasty headache came on and I almost went to the ER. I was almost in tears, it just kept pounding as if my head was going to explode. It took 3 hours to get it to a comfortable point. The headache radiates from my forehead and right down my neck. So today a small headache remains and the neck is stiff. I am trying to get a Dr' s appt tomorrow. The only thing holding me back from the ER last night was knowing it might go away before I was seen.....John said I was burning up so I imagine there is a fever---anyone ever have anything similar to this? I know it is not stress.....

I have other people in the last week tell me they have had similar things happen to them in the last few days....

Oh, dear, Amanda! How awful for you........I've been very lucky in the sinus/headache department - - never had any trouble in that area. I'm afraid I can't be of much help. I do hope you get into your doc tomorrow, and get some answers! Thinking about you.. . .. ...... :)

I actually never had any until I moved to this area and was working in the hospital not even in the lab but in the office and it seems the others get them alot...

This sounds suspiciously enviornmental...... ......like toxic materials/mold/chemicals in the office you now work in. Have any co-workers mentioned this possibility?

Amanda, from what I understand, hospitals are the very worst (or best from the germs perspective) places for exposure to all types of germs, bacteria. I've known too many people who get "other" illnesses in the hospitals than what they went in for! I don't know of any remedy, except for lots of hand washing/use of Purell. Hope you feel better soon.

Pah-tay....so exciting getting to know a new area. 1st thing we did was to buy area maps to get around with......spent time watching ads and playing "find the store" to learn our way around (also "find the park, find the trails...etc). Maps make it so much easier. I carried them in my car for about a year :lol:

Gotta go...I'm going to be late for work! :(

'Morning, Psills!

Didn't notice anybody else squiggling yet.....

I HATE squiggling alone. And I'm so rarely a late-night squiggler. . . . ...

Amanda, I hope you are better today. No more headaches! They sound truly heinous .. . . ....

Very interesting how our wee emoticons often switch positions in their little box. I've now got the Rollyeyes guy in the upper left quadrant, and he has regularly been in the middle. And the Unsure guy!! Why.....there is he is in the upper right quadrant, and he is often not even IN the box - - I must click on show all to get at him. He is one of my favorite phaces, and I do hope he stays there. Laffy guy's moved, as has gaspingguy . .. . .... yet ANOTHER new thing to deal with! Gad, how do I manage??

Does everybody all have the phace order changes happening at the same time? Who does everybody currently have in their four corners?

Morning Sills

Snaugh, snaugh, and more snaugh in these parts. We got a blizzard last week that dumped aobut 12 inches in my area, more in others....then it melted pretty quickly, had a 64 degree day yesterday  (that's Colorado for you) and woke up to more snaugh this morning, more on the way all week too.

But it's a GOOD thing as we have had the driest winter so far on record since the 1800s and they were talking about the big D word (drought)

Kansas?? where's that???.....is it near Jools in Colarado???? ..is Jools snowed in/under??????????

Poor Kansas...yep Nik, Kansas is me neighboUr (and me second home, it's where me kinfolk are from ;) ). They got our storm but it stalled over em and they just got dumped on.

Has spring sprung in London yet?

Phunny thing--I've read about the Enjoy Life granola and how they've improved the recipe to good reviews here. The HEB here is a really big grocery store with a very decent gluten-free section. The EL granola was almost sold out! :P I got one of the last 3 bags on the shelf. I almost got 2, but I don't know if I'm gonna like it.

They were fully stocked on everything else in the dept, except this. Good new travels fast :D

Hi Patti!

What a find on the EL granola!! I hadn't heard that about the improved recipe. I had tried i a couple times before but it ripped my mouth apart, something in it just did not agree with me.....darn multiple intolerances thing <_<

Last night I cooked a big chunk of beef (all night). Took it out this morning and took off the fat from the liquid (I cooked it in a bit a red wine - what else?).

A little while ago I threw some sweet taters, red bell peppers, pearl onions, garlic, and a can of tomatoes in to the broth. Figured I'd cook those up for a while, chuck the juice, and have a lovely bowl of veggies.

Very gourmet of you Jess

Sounds yummy!

Just gotta get Jack on the cheese grater. When he does this job, it is quite amazing how the big brick of cheddar goes down to almost nothing, and there is not a whole lot of grated cheese resulting. . . . ... <_<

The case of the missing cheese....does Jack nibble a little too much while he works?!?!

I think I have tried this before Janet, or maybe it was the cornmeal that I made cornbread with from scratch...but it was really coarse and made for a dry cornbread so I was kind of dissapointed <_<

I would try to get in ASAP.

Ah yes, the shiftage of emoticons....it really chaps my hide.

I get all comfortable with the layout and know where everything is in my mind to the point where I just click on my emoticon selection without thinking.....and then boom, SHIFT, they change it up and the result is the expression of an inappropriate emotion.

But why, Oracle POeter? Why?? Why the shift? What does this mean?

Why is Rolleyeyes number one right now for me, but this morning it was Mr. Unsure? Do these guys somehow know what's going on in our lives, and are simply reflecting our emotions as they are happening? Just before I began this post, I was smiling and shaking my head at Elsie and Gus, who were play-fighting outside.... . .. I was rolling my eyes.

Mygawd.... . . . ....

Something very big could be going on, here. . . . . ...

Morning Everyone

Went to the Dr's yesterday-got a pretty bad infection, but my throat is swollen and red (never bothered me so I had no idea) and an ear infection which also hadn't bothered me. So now I am back on meds again-this time I am Biaxin. This is the first time I used this one. I just didn't want to go on the Z-pak again. I have been on it so much lately that I did not want to build up a tolerence.

Other than that everything else has been relatively quiet around here. Time to start me work.

Jess-any feline gifts yet?

Jestgar Rising Star

No dead things for me this morning.

I suppose I'll be expected to work again at work today.

whatever................

'Morning, Amanda!

Glad to hear you're on new meds for this heinous thing in yer throat and ears. Imagine, not even knowing there was an infection in there? The way to be stricken, I suppose.. . . ..... <_<;)

Emoticons are as I left them last evening. . .. . ..

Bah.....they're toyin' with me. . . .. . . . :huh::lol:

WELL. Big plans are afoot.. . . .. ...we are organizing a huge 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY for my parents (can you imagine?? Sixty years married???) to be held at my place next weekend. Our entire family with grand-kids and great-grand-kids, and old friends of my parents.

Hmmmm......there could be several seniors drunkenly clambouring into the ho-tub. . . ...

As long as they are not naked.

There may be some interesting things at the bottom after THIS gathering.. .. . .

Should not be a problem except for the most sensitive celiacs. The amount of gluten that would get in the air from cooking alone has got to be miniscule. I would be more concerned about cross contamination happening in other ways in a living environment where others are preparing and consuming gluten-containing foods. Thinks like shared cooking surfaces and countertops. And what about that toaster you mentioned?
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @NCalvo822, Blood tests for Celiac Disease test for antibodies our bodies make in response to gluten exposure.  These Tg IgA 2 antibodies mistakenly attack our own bodies, causing problems in organs and tissues other than just the digestive tract.  Joints can ache, thyroid problems or the pancreas can develop.  Ataxia is just one of over two hundred symptoms of Celiac Disease. Some people with Celiac Disease also make tTg IgA 6 antibodies in response to gluten exposure.  The tTg IgA 6 antibodies attack the brain, causing ataxia.  These tTg IgA 6 antibodies are also found in people with Parkinson's disease, though they may not have Celiac Disease.  First degree relatives (parents, siblings, children) of those diagnosed with Celiac should be tested as well.  Celiac is genetic.  Your mom and sister should be tested for Celiac, too!   Definitely a good idea to keep to a gluten free diet.
    • knitty kitty
@Rebeccaj,  When you smell toast or pasta cooking, that means that particles of that food are floating around in the air.  Airborne gluten can then be inhaled and swallowed, meaning the food particles get into your digestive tract.   If you're careful to avoid gluten and are still having symptoms, those symptoms could be caused by vitamin deficiencies.
    • Rebeccaj
ok thanks for your advice. But my question was what happens when someone you know in a house is cooking pasta or toast that's flour  Airbourne without eating.?
    • knitty kitty
Do discuss this recent article with your doctors.  Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is important to intestinal health.  Thiamine deficiency can occur in Celiac Disease due to malabsorption.  Supplementing with a B Complex, Benfotiamine, and Vitamin D can help symptoms.   Thiamine deficiency aggravates experimental colitis in mice by promoting glycolytic reprogramming in macrophages https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39890689/#:~:text=Our mechanistic study revealed that, necessary to protect against colitis. "Conclusion and implications: Our study provides evidence linking thiamine deficiency with proinflammatory macrophage activation and colitis aggravation, suggesting that monitoring thiamine status and adjusting thiamine intake is necessary to protect against colitis."
