:D :D

*sigh*

I think I get 'congratulated' again :P (I did fairly well on the math section).

Congratulations! ( tho I don't think this is the kind of contests she is hoping for ;) )

Gads. Just spent two hours putting away laundry. Now that I'm coming out of my math induced haze I'm beginning to realize just how much I didn't do around the house. I suppose I had to wash the clothes to keep from running out of undies, but that's as far as I got. There's enough junk mail piled up to qualify me as a 'hoarder' and we're down to the last bit of kitty litter. Instead of the offered congrats from BE, mebbe I'll ask for maid service instead.

I've been doing non stop laundry since my son got home. Clark bought him a beard trimmer so he doesn't look as scruffy. Today I take him for a haircut and pick up my prize from my painting class. We donated gifts to a foster home and I won first place. It's a load of supplies which is great because I was going to need to buy supplies after next month and they aren't cheap.

OK, I better run before my son showers and uses up all the hot water. Jess, stop thinking about math and keep thinking about congratulations with BE!!!!..

Loey

Got the same cold. Clark gave it to me as an early Xmas present. Enjoy the skiing. You're not the type to let a cold keep you down!

The cold didn't, but the foot of snow that we weren't expecting did <_< If I was riding with someone else, I woulda been fine, but I was driving, so that wasn't happening :( I put on my snow pants and boots and went 'snow-Ugging' thru the golf course. Twas the best workout I've ever had!

The rest of the weekend went tits-up. Was one of the worst in history. I, am apparently, a selfish b!tch.....<_<

mine too! :D:D:D

You're not a selfish jerk in the least. You didn't complain when DH changed plans on you. Hope Santa makes this up to you. Wish we were getting snow. We were supposed to all week but only had a snow shower this morning. Of course I'll sing a different tune when it does snow.

My son is belting out songs from Jesus Christ Superstar in the shower (he takes 2 to 3 a day). He's going to need a LOT of practice to make Alcapelo next year (and this is coming from a mother who is very prejudice). He's missing some major notes. He's also in a snarky mood because he misses his friends from Brown and from High school.

Hugs,

Santa didn't start shopping till Sunday night. I won't be getting much of anything, I don't think. I know my kids got me something. Those are the gifts I love the most!

Maddie sings in the shower too. Actually, she sings everywhere!

If you live in an apartment maybe someone burned something they were cooking. We came home from the movies once and our carbon monoxide alarm was going off. We had the windows open but wound up calling the pfire department anyway. There wasn't a problem but evidently when Clark was putting in the hard wood floors he didn't cover the alarms and dust got in them and triggered them several months later. Glad you're OK and there wasn't a pfire.

I'm ok--right after I posted I saw a firetruck, police car, rescue squad van, and an official pickup from the fire dept arrive just outside the parking garage....but no more alarms or anyone at all in the hall. I called the office, and she said it was fine, they only came out for "a precaution". Needed to make sure since I'm on the 4th floor. ;)

Who knows...this happened once in Texas--turned out to be a couple kids setting off the alarm.

Tony's taking my car to get us (Clark & I) presents today. He asked if there was anything I wanted and I told him a flannel nightgown (when I'm bloated and flaring my PJ's are uncomfortable). He said he wanted to get me something I wanted not needed. I think he didn't want to go into the lingerie department. laugh.gif

He's always gotten me cute presents. One year I worked with the principal from hell and he got me a voodoo doll. Last year he went to build a bear and made me a hippie jew bear (I'm jewish).

I told Clark I really don't want a gift from him because my UI is running out and I don't know if or when I'll get disability or be able to start working. Last year he got me a new iPod.

I'm going out to finish shopping with a girlfriend in a little while. It's taken 7 months but I'm finally making friends here. Part of it was being a hermit because of this illness. Luckily I had all my psillies!!! biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Off to get ready for shopping. I also need to see if I can find Turdunkin (sp?) and if it's gluten-free. Tony suddenly wants that for Christmas. He is the hardest person I've ever tried to feed !!!!!

Yeah. I think if he had some issues he needed to discuss with me, after 4 hours of drinking and playing poker with the guys was not the best time to do it! He usually gets me some pretty thoughtful gifts for Christmas. This year, I think I shall be an afterthought. I'm surprising him with a trip to SLC to visit his best friend he only sees once every 2 years, but whatever <_< I will be putting all my energy into my beh-behs.... And cakes.... Got 3 orders late last week for 6 cakes for the 24th and 1 for the 26th! :)

So glad you're all right!!!! Fires are terrify me. My parents house burned to the ground on Rosh Hashanah one year. It was sewer gas and had been building up and it's like carbon monoxide so no one smelled it. Our entire family was pulling up as the fire trucks were tying to put it out. The phone had melted off the wall so we couldn't call anyone (pre-cell pnone days). Thankfully no one was hurt. You know how they say that your personality comes out in what you grab from the house? I grabbed my dorm keys, my father grabbed the safe box with all of the important papers in it, and my mother grabbed dinner. We went to my Aunt's house and my mother made us eat the chicken. It tasted like smoke.

Thankful you're OK!

Loey

P.S. I called the fire department 2 years ago because I smelled a fire and it turned out to be our neighbors BBQ'ing Clark didn't let me hear the end of it for a while.

Well, we had a little excitement in the neighborhood this morning. We had some guys come through in the middle of the night and steal everything out of everyone's mailboxes. Apparently they hit a different area of town the previous night. They go through the mail looking for the gift cards and cash and dump everything else. The got a prescription for Xalatan for Josie's glaucoma that I was mail ordering. They got about $80 worth of gift cards from the neighbor. Merry Bah Humbug Christmas. Oh well, I'm not out any money, just inconvenienced to run to the vet specialist to pick up a new script. Thank goodness I'm running behind and didn't have more stuff in the outgoing mail. The policeman that took my statement was a cutie . . . although I was in my pajamas and had not brushed my teeth yet . . . I tried not to get too close. He then tried to make the kids think that he was there because of them and that they shouldn't look so surprised and "You, know what you did." :P

How scary and definitely Bah Humbug!!! I'm glad the prescription was all that was taken but it's still a pain in the neck that you have to go back to the specialist. I don't mail gift cards but I do mail checks. Hopefully the (cute) cop will get the guy/s!

I didn't know there was a gluten-free brand. We saw a show recently about how they make popular holiday foods. With the Turduckin, there was stuffing all over the place! The workers took gloved handfuls of it and stuffed the birds but it got all over the place. If they did a gluten-free version, it would need to be done in a completely different room!

Jyaghnutt, that mail thievery sucks! Well, let's hope that they were young kids, and one of them will rip open Josie's prescription bag, stare at the bottle, break into a huge, disbelieving smile and exclaim, "Whoa, lookit this!! Meds for glaucoma!! My mom has glaucoma, an' she's goin' blind, an' we got no money, no drug plan for medicine! Man, Her face when I give her this - - this won't be such a bad Christmas AFTER ALL!!"

. . . . . ...Er sumfin' like that.. . . . . ...

Wow KK, thank you so much for all your attached info. I had a very quick scan but will read more in depth later.  The one concerning corticosteroid use is very interesting. That would relate to secondary adrenal insufficiency I think , ie AI caused by steroids such as taken long term for eg asthma. I have primary autoimmune AI, my adrenals are atrophied, no chance if recovery there. But I am in touch with some secondaries, so something to bear in mind. .  Niacin B3 Very interesting too. Must have a good read about that.  Im sure lots of questions will arise as I progress with dermatitis herpetiformis. In the mean time, thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum, @suek54, I have Dermatitis Herpetiformis, too.  I found taking Niacin B3 very helpful in clearing my skin from blisters as well as improving the itchies-without-rash (peripheral neuropathy).  Niacin has been used since the 1950's to improve dermatitis herpetiformis.   I try to balance my iodine intake (which will cause flairs) with Selenium which improves thyroid function.   Interesting Reading: Dermatitis herpetiformis effectively treated with heparin, tetracycline and nicotinamide https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10844495/   Experience with selenium used to recover adrenocortical function in patients taking glucocorticosteroids long https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24437222/   Two Cases of Dermatitis Herpetiformis Successfully Treated with Tetracycline and Niacinamide https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30390734/   Steroid-Resistant Rash With Neuropsychiatric Deterioration and Weight Loss: A Modern-Day Case of Pellagra https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12532421/#:~:text=Figure 2.,(right panel) upper limbs.&text=The distribution of the rash, patient's substantial response to treatment.   Nicotinic acid therapy of dermatitis herpetiformis (1950) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15412276/

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!
