What Alcohol Can I Drink?

IM new, so i know this has been probably discussed alot here, but can anyone tell me what alcohjol i can drink like rum, vodka>? Do they have glutan free beer?

As for Beer, New Grist and Bard's Tale are gluten free. I've had New Grist (not bad, but very light). Haven't tried Bard's yet.

I usually get like a good, straightforward red wine...but I remember somebody telling me it may be a while before my tummy handles alcohol really well...

That's a good list but I am certain that some Cognac's add coloring derived from wheat (indeed I have a bottle in my cupboard) ...

The whole grain alcohol issue has been discussed to death... the bottom line is that in some cases some gluten might be transferred ...one bottle might be fine and another from a different batch might not.

Personally I stick to Rums and Tequila (uncolored) for liquor and otherwise drink wine... I do drink cider but Im not 100% certain some types are 100% gluten-free and there is always the problem with draft if they change the pumps.

Also it doesn't agree with me in a non gluten way and gives me GERD.. if I drink a lot.

If you want to be safe then don't take risks... the problem with drinks is we tend to have favorites so its not a one off decision ... if you have a glass a month its one thing but if you like a glass a day its another IMHO...

Being a former beer snob prior to diagnosis in Feb 2006, I would strongly recommend Bard's Tale Beer. New Grist is almost undrinkable. Bard's is a true lager with a nice hop finish. I love it. Even my non-Celiac friends think it's great. New Grist is a faux beer that is almost like sparkling wine. The good thing about Bard's is that it comes from malted sorghum which makes it a real beer.

I am just finishing off my very first gluten-free beer. My bro brought me a 6 pack each of Bards Tale and New Grist. I have been staring at the bottles every day I open my fridge, trying to get my courage up to try them. I was so afraid of being disappointed.............I just couldn't bear it!

I decided to try the New Grist first. This is for all of you non-beer-snobs out there - the New Grist is GREAT! You see, I was not a discriminate beer-drinker. I was a dedicated Bud Light drinker before, and I have not had a beer for a year now. I am so excited that I have found a beer to drink!

From the descriptions I have read here, I am afraid I won't like the Bards Tale, but you never know. I will give it a shot and report back later.

Well, I just finished a Bards Tale beer, and I must say that it is pretty good! It has a stronger flavor than New Grist, but I like them both and am pleasantly surprised.

I am going to have to get some more of both smuggled into West Virginia!

Beer Snobs and Wine Snobs are for the birds...who needs them?

Beer and Wine are both are products of time, labor and creativity (some more than others). They should be appreciated, not judged!

Preferences differ, but when people defame or insult others due to their alcohol preference, I roll my eyes. Apparently, those people are able to cast the first stone...LOL

In any event, I like both beers. I like Bards with a meal and I like New Grist when I want to party.

Also, any liquor that is distilled alcohol without mash being added to it is gluten free.

If you are highly sensitive and want to stay with the 100% safe bets then try these

1. Smirnoff Vodka (made from corn)

2. Bacardi Rum (Sugarcane and no additiives)

3. Chopin Vodka (Potatoes)

5. Glacier Bay Vodka (Potatoes)

6. Siroc Vodka (Grapes)

7. Wines (Grapes)

Also, I have never encountered a Cognac that wasn't made from grapes. I could be wrong...

If you like Midori (melon liquor, bright green color) it is gluten-free as well as DiSorno (sp?) amaretto (sp?). I contacted the company about a year and a half ago and was informed both are gluten-free.

I was definitely not a beer snob before Celiac (Bud Light was my fave - enough said?). As much beer as I used to drink I could not afford to be one :P

I am not a wine snob either - my favorite wine is Brietenbach Frost Fire made in the Amish Country in Walnut Grove, Ohio. It is not the cheapest wine on the market, but it is inexpensive and very sweet.

I am just so tickled I found beer now!

I had a Bard's Tale too!!! Bought 5 six packs last weekend in Vermont on my way back from a trip to Montreal. Man, is that stuff good! That is beer!! Better than La Messagere and Rampo Valley thats for sure. Can't wait for poker tonight and have a REAL Beer :D

I stick with wine and Smirnoff..

I tried some Irish Coffee the other day, without thinking, and got suuuuper sick from the whiskey. It was terrible.. so, yeah, no whiskey!!

I drink Maker's Mark whiskey with no problem. I remember seeing it on a gluten-free list somewhere. I will see if I can find it.

i was never a beer snob, but beer & wine was all i drank before. getting drunk became quite an experience when i started drinking hard liquor. i now have my limits down to a science! the new grist, though not coors light is a great substitute. there is nothing like a frosty beverage in the amber bottle. most wines are fine - i stick with whites.

for hard liquor, bacardi "O" their orange flavored rum is great. mix it with sprite and you can barely taste the liqour. hence the problems in the beginning. just because you can't taste it doesn't mean it's not there. anyway, also, their vanilla flavored rum with coke is delicious also. i have heard skky vodka is ok, though i haven't tried it. i have also had luksusowa vodka which is fine. it's a polish potato vodka.

Ha Ha! I know what you mean! When I had to switch from beer to something else, I made the mistake of drinking Jose Cuervo's Strawberry Margaritas. They go down waaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy and fast. It took me a while to figure out how to pace myself. :D

I love New Grist, I drink lots of red wine and absolut vodka. No problems with any since my diagnosis in April 2006. I'm surprised people knock New Grist. I think if you like microbrewed beer with a hoppy tast, you might like it.

I was a former beer drinker, which I still miss dearly. But thank whoever for making gluten-free beer. I did the same thing as you and became a tequila drinker. The drinks sure went down fast and since gluten was giving me the hangovers before, I figured I could have quite a few. I've learned my lesson now and take it a wee bit slower.

I am so glad I am not the only (ex) Bud Light drinker. There is also a gluten free beer that Widmer Brothers out of Portland Oregon are working on. Only available at the brewery for now. Have not had a chance to drive down there and try it but I will soon and report back as a former non-beer-snob. I can't wait to get my hands on some New Grist. Haven't found anything in Washington state yet.

      This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers.       Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
