What can anyone tell me about hot dogs? I think that hebrew national are ok. I have read the ingredients but I need some help !! :unsure:

Oscar Mayer are fine, also. They are a Kraft company, so any gluten would be listed.

About the only hot dog I've heard of that has gluten is Nathan's.

Always read labels, though!

Thank you everyone, and on that note I just got off of the KRAFT.COM web site and they tell you exactly how there products are listed. myself being a newbie I thought other newbies would like to know about this site.

that's why I get Applegate Farms hot dogs, they don't have all that junk... I freeze them as soon as I open the pack (in pairs of two in ziploc sandwich baggies) then I can just toss the frozen hot dogs in the boiling water when I have a hankering for a hot dog or two.

I have only been eating Herbrew National because they are the only one that do not make me feel sick.

they have No-by products no artificial flavorings or color. it right on the package, but i will try others to see what happens (maybe) scared to.

Hebrew National are definitely the best, totally gluten-free, natural, free of CC, and the best tasting to boot.

I got the Sabrett at Costco because they were so much cheaper and I was taking some to a cookout, so I'd know they had some I could eat.

But Hebrew National are definitely worth every extra penny.

Don't switch if you don't have to.

Hi. I have just recently been diagnosed with celiac disease. I am trying to find gluten free hotdogs. I called Kahns and they told me that kahns does not test any of their products for gluten. Does anybody know if they are ok to eat? They are my favorite! What are some alternatives that are not too expensive?

Welcome.

If you are in the US, there are no major brands that we are aware of that contain gluten. Nathan's used to, but they changed their ingredients a couple of years back.

Most mainstream food companies do not test for gluten. That does not mean the products are not safe to use. It means that they won't accept legal liability if something goes wrong. Do you test the foods that you bring into your house? ;)

This is an old topic, and ingredient information from 2006 may not be relevant today.

Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

      The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.
