hey,

I have this horrific head cold/ flu going on but I need to go in to work tomorrow. I have taken Neo Citran Thin Strips in the past before I knew I was gluten intolerant. These strips disolve on your tongue and they really help with cough, runny nose, itchy eyes etc etc.. I only take them when I am at work since I try to avoid medication as much as possible. I have been all over the net trying to find out if they are gluten free but can't find an answer. I checked the ingredients list but I have no idea what half of them are and they are not on any gluten free ingredient list. I am really hoping one of you will know if they are gluten free and it would be great if I could find this out before tomorrow :unsure: Please help!!

I don't know if they're gluten free, but if you could post the ingredients, we could read through them and tell you if they're likely gluten free or not. The only way to know for sure is to call the company tomorrow morning.

I read the ingredients online. It includes STARCH of unknown origin. Therefore, because it is a Canadian product, you have to assume that it could be BARLEY or WHEAT - even though it could be corn.

I would not assume that the product is gluten-free because of this. (It probably is NOT).

This is marketed under a different name in US. Bur I can't find it anywhere.

Not on the CLAN Thompson list.

It's not listed either on Delphi for www.glutenfreedrugs.com, so I would assume it is not safe......

Drink. Seriously. As much hot tea and chicken soup and hot lemonade as you can get down. Whatever germs you don't drown, you will pee out and flush away!!!! :P

(No kidding, it really does work, better than anything you can buy from the pharmaceutical industry.)

Sorry you have to go to work, although I realize it's necessary sometimes. I just hate it when sick folks come in and spread things around.

The company assured me that all Neo Citron 'drinks' in Canada are gluten free, but I never asked about the strips. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Yes, I hate it when people come in sick too. My boss came in last week with a wicked cold. Now I have it - but not too too bad. I have to fly to Florida tomorrow. I postponed flying today til them because I hate to spread colds, they just come back at me later!

I'm only taking sudaphed and that "mucinex" stuff. That is helping enough to make me feel not too bad.

Wish you luck getting better. STEAM STEAM STEAM. HOT LIQUID. HOT LIQUID. IT works! (especially a LONG LONG hot shower).

thanks a lot for the helpful replies! As it turns out, I did not go back to work. I was still way too sick. Matter of fact, I haven't been back yet. I ended up with a fever and started seeing spiders crawling on my pillow. IMHO, that means you are too sick to be at work :ph34r: I don't like going to work sick and I don't like it when other people show up and give everyone their flu/ cold etc. However, I hear how the management goes on and on about absenteism blah, blah, blah. So now I hope to go back tomorrow and will be greeted by a huge pile of paperwork on my desk and the cold shoulder from a few select individuals.

there was a study recently, in the past month or two, I think, about how *presenteeism* (coming to work sick) is actually MORE of a problem for the vast majority of work places (costs more) than absenteism, and more and more employers are starting to complain about it. looks like your management should read the news. :P (and invest in telecommuting if at all possible. :lol: )

Employers may have had a hand in creating this situation. My company changed the policy so that sick days, vacation days, etc. are combined into PTO days. Now, there is no distinction between sick days and vacation days. I know for a fact that some coworkers prefer to "be sick" at work so that their PTO days can be used when they are healthy.

Anyone know if this information is still correct? I have NeoCitran Cold & Flu (the lemon powder that comes in pouches). I have bronchitis <_< and would like to drink a hot lemon NeoCitran to sooth my poor throat and help me sleep. I can't seem to find any information online either! The ingredients seem fine, but I'm always extra cautious when trying something new, especially a medication of some kind.

      I was undiagnosed for decades. My ferritin when checked in 2003 was 3. It never went above 10 in the next 20 years. I was just told to "take iron".       Scott, I agree with everything you said except the term "false negative". It should be a "true negative" just plain negative. I actually looked up true/false negative/positive as it pertains to testing. The term "false negative" would be correct if you are positive (have anti-bodies) and the test did not pick them up. That would be a problem with the "test...

      I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have...

      Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin (3) and low vitamin D (10). I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test? So I did quit gluten and had the biopsy. It was negative for celiacs. I continued gluten free with iron supps and my ferritin came back up to a reasonable, but not great level of around 30-35.  Could there be something else going on? Is there any reason why my antibodies would be high (>80) with a negative biopsy? could me intestines have healed that quickly (3 months)?  I'm having a hard time staying gluten free because I am asymptomatic and i'm wondering about that biopsy. I do have the celiacs gene, and all of the antibody tests have always come back high. I recently had them tested again. Still very high. I am gluten free mostly, but not totally. I will occasionally eat something with gluten, but try to keep to a minimum. It's really hard when the immediate consequences are nil.  with high antibodies, the gene, but a negative biopsy (after 3 months strict gluten-free), do i really have celiacs? please say no. lol. i think i know the answer.  Asa

      I have had a long year of testing unfortunately still not diagnosed , although one thing they definitely agree I'm gluten intolerant, the thing for me I have severe back troubles they wouldnt perform the tests and I couldn't have a full MRI because I'm allergic to the solution , we tryed believe me  I tryed lol , another was to have another blood test after consuming gluten but it makes me so bad I tryed it for only a week, and because I have a trapped sciatic nerve when I get bad bowels it sets that off terribly so I just take it on myself now , I eat a gluten free diet , I'm the best I've ever been , and if I slip I know it so for me i have my own diagnosis  and I act accordingly, sometimes it's not so straight forward for some of us , for the first time in years I can plan to go out , and I have been absorbing my food better , running to the toilet has become occasionally now instead of all the time , i hope you find a solution 🤗

Why else would my TTgIgA be so high if not celiacs? Anyway, your ferritin will rise as your intestine heals and take HEME iron (brand 4 arrows). I took 20mg of this with vitamin c and lactoferrin and my ferritin went up, now sits around 35.  you will feel dramatically better getting your ferritin up, and you can do it orally with the right supplements. I wouldn't get an infusion, you will get as good or better results taking heme iron/vc/lf.

That would be a problem with the "test" itself. If you were gluten-free and got tested, you more than likely would test "true" negative or just negative. This means that the gluten-free diet is working and no anti-bodies should be present. I know it sounds confusing and if you don't agree feel free to respond.

If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.
