Duncan Hines Frosting Is Not Safe!

I was previously told that some of the Duncan Hines Frostings were gluten free and upon reading the label, there were no obvious forms of gluten. So, I checked with the company just to be safe and they just replied today. Here is what they wrote:

Thank you for taking the time to inquire about Pinnacle Foods Corporation

and the products we produce which might be gluten-free. We appreciate

your interest in our company and our products.

At the present time, Vlasic® Pickles, Sauerkraut and Peppers and Log

Cabin® Country Kitchen syrup are gluten-free. The vinegar used in

production of these items is corn-based, rather than wheat-based. Other

items in our product lines (which include Swanson® frozen foods and Open

Pit® barbecue sauces) generally contain wheat-based ingredients in the

form of modified food starches and other thickening agents. The Duncan

Hines Frostings are not gluten free.

While our manufacturing facilities follow generally accepted good

manufacturing practices, we do not have the flexibility of segregating

production lines for the exclusive production of wheat-free items. We

recommend that you review the list of ingredients on the package prior to

purchase to assure that you are meeting your specific dietary needs. Since

we are constantly improving our products, ingredients may change from time

to time.

We appreciate the time you've taken to share your specific concerns with

us, because it helps us to become aware of consumer needs. We hope you

find this information helpful.

But, on the brightside I wrote Pillsbury and they called me back today as well. They said that all of their frostings were gluten-free except their Coconut, and Pecan frosting. So yeah for that!!! :D

      Occasionally eating out in restaurants means that there is potential cross contamination in spite of ordering a gluten free dish. What enzyme supplements can the forum recommend that would help with potential cross contamination? Something I could take before I start eating. I used to order Wheat Rescue from Microbiome lab, but it is not available anymore.

      Hi  - Anyone have any experience with these? I bought them at Costco thinking they must be gluten-free, but now I see Natural Flavors and Spice in the ingredients. There's no Gluten Free labeling. However the Costco site and two other sites say it's gluten free. Anyone know?

      Yes, I doubt you can find a perfectly safe restaurant--perhaps a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, but in general, very few of them exist, and they tend to be in larger cities. Super sensitive celiacs should probably just avoid eating out.
