Almond Or Cashew Butters?

I'm thinking about switching us over from peanut butter to almond butter or some other alternative. My kids, 2 and 4, like peanut butter, but I worry about them having traces of peanut butter on their hands when they're around other kids. (There are a couple kids at my daughter's preschool with peanut allergies.)

We've just been eating peanut butter on days when we're not going to be around other kids, but it would be nice to not have to worry about it.

Are there any alternative nut butters that are popular with the preschool crowd? Or any really gross ones I should stay away from?

Thanks,

Nancy

marantha brand, esp. the roasted varieties, are delicious. i had a reaction to another brand (sorry, i don't remember which!). i get mind at costco, too, in a huge container. it's about the third of the cost!

Thank you! You know it's gotta be good if it's offered in the larger containers.

Walnut Butter and Cashew Butter and Pecan Butter from ARTISANA. IT'S RAW, which is important, and it is entirely peamut, gluten, and dairy free. I think the Walnut one is FANTASTIC. They are not cheap, though.

I'll add a second nod to maranatha. I love their almond butter and they do make a raw version. When I need a quick snack I put a scoop of it in a dish and eat with a spoon. yummy! On days I juice fruits (not very often at all because of blood sugar) I put a big spoonful of almond butter in the blender with the juices. It adds protein so the sugar doesn't destroy me.

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
