Help For Toothache Relief

I split my tooth tonight in the back all the way up past the gum. I dont know how though! I have a slight nagging pain in it unless I drink cold stuff then it hurts terribly. The worst part of it is though is the headache!

I have shooting pain up the back of my neck and head from it. I called my dentist and he said it wasnt an emergency and to take pain relief and he would see me on monday. Problem is I have glaucoma, its not recommended for me to take pain relievers as they increase the pressure in my eye so Im trying to hold out. Not to mention I am dealing with pneumonia and had fricking kidney stones I passed on saturday, ugh hopefully with this being the third it will be the end.

Anyways (back on topic) what do you recommend to ease the pain other than otc pain meds?

Thanks so much for your help :)

You poor thing! I cracked a tooth once and it was not pleasant.

Try a warm, moist washcloth on your jaw where the tooth is. :)

Thanks so much, especially for the quick reply :)

Im off to try it!

I have had lots of teeth crack out of my head - try this baby ambesol for teething right on the tooth. Sometimes it can numb the root nerve a little bit. Don't know if it is gluten-free as I just learned about Celiac 1 month ago.

Worst pain in the world, I think. Hang in there, hope you feel better.

Thanks, I'll have to see if its alright and make sure it doesnt raise eye pressure and is gluten free. Pain like this sure makes you feel for your little ones with teeth coming in. It's driving me nuts.

Orajel is gluten-free too and works very well to numb the area.

This certainly sounds like an emergency to me. It sounds like a nerve is exposed. Too bad you have to wait until Monday....

There are dental things you can buy at drugstore like wax to put over the tooth. it might not stay on while you are eating...but you can try it.

Try rinsing your mouth out with warm epson salt. This works for tooth ache. If you have a water pic you can use that with the epson salt. :)

Thanks for your help, Im still gargling sea salt water. I went to the dentist and he said since I am severely stuffed up it might be from my cold  It might be worsened because it is next to my sinuses but I dont buy it, it didn't hurt till the other day. He did find the crack and said to wait till ny sinuses clear and then see if it still hurts. I'm thinking he has two weeks off from christmas vacation and is not wanting to squeeze me in if it can wait.

Im going to wait it out since frankly I dont have the money for this with christmas here and its not too much pain right now where I can stand it. No signs of decay or infection yet so he felt okay with putting it off.

Honestly Im not pleased with the treatment they would give me for it anyways. He said he would try and do a crown but if its in the pulp it would still hurt and he would have to pull it anyway. I dont want to spend around 800 dollars for a crown and then another couple hundred to pull it. I would do it for my daughter but not for me. Its the farthest tooth in the back and if its causing major problems I'm tempted to tell him to pull it, you cant see it when I smile anyways.

Those were some of the first of mine to go. After about 4 root canals in the same tooth, I had the first one extracted. I told the puller "I could just kiss you!" If I had to do this all over again - and I have - I usually let them RC a tooth once and if it goes bad, I pull it. I have lost several teeth and I plan to get implants because as you lose more lower teeth the top ones will come loose. I have had bridges made - $6000 each and then had to have them cut off because the teeth they were hooked onto got to have the 4 root canal treatment!! So far, you can't see any of my tooth loss when I smile. I do have a cow bone in my right lower jaw because I let them root canal over and over and the infections ate away the bone. I have an awesome dentist though, he does those extreme makeovers locally. My teeth have been a learning experience for him and I. And he hears me, lots of doctors don't.

Hope your tooth heals up, gets covered fine, and you have no more pain!!

Guest AutumnE

Thanks :) You seem on the same track I am on so many things. My dentist looked at me oddly when I mentioned just pulling it and not putting a bridge in (cost too much and a pain to clean). He thought it was drastic. I see root canal as a possibility for awhile and just cutting my money and adding to his. I do contribute to alot of my problems with my teeth. Im a huge teeth grinder and I wore through the brace I had and insurance only pays for one and they are about $400 a piece and I eat ice  It's a bad habit but I do it now without being aware of it.

TWO MAJOR THINGS:

1. You can buy a brace for sports that you bite into when hot and it will fit to your teeth for like $5. I can't wear my $400 piece of plastic cause too many teeth are missing now. :D

2. I just read some new research that says eating ice is a "PICA" - remember when you were pregnant and they asked if you craved eating weird things like clay - because it means you are deficient in a mineral.

Well eating ice indicates that you are currently anemic - the more you eat, the worse the anemia. You should go to the doctor!! You need iron.

My father is an ice-chomper and has chronic anemia.

Guest AutumnE

Hmmm, I didnt know that about ice. I was iron deficient anemic years ago but I just had a blood test not long ago and supposedly it was fine by lab standards. I wonder if the lab standards are accurate?

Can you buy iron in health food stores?

I'll try the sports ones, hopefully that will help too.

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system
