Hi everyone.

I think my little one may be showing signs of celiac but I can't remember how it presents in infants. My older son was diagnosed at age 3 so his symptoms were easier for me to recognize.

Some history- my 1 1/2 yr old was diagnosed with diabetes after his 1st birthday. He had the stomach flu a month ago and since then has been miserable. He's had chronic diarrhea, nasty diaper rash, irritability, and is very slow to gain weight. Plus he just looks pale and "off". He has an appointment to see the pediatric GI after the holidays but I wanted to stop by and see what you guys thought.

I'm afraid that I might be reading too much into things but at the same time I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks!

That sounds like celiac to me. just know that each person's symptoms vary from preson to person so you can't base his symptoms off his brother's but to me (i was diagnosed when i was 20 months) it sounds like he is a celiac.

did i understand you right----both of your boys were diagnosed with diabetes at only a year old and the older has celiac? no wonder you are worried about the baby having celiac!!

 My baby had ROTO VIRUS and never was the same after. He would vomit for a few hours after he was given ( baby cereal) then it progressed to vomiting after cheerios and other things with wheat.

Mine vomits after gluten. But had no other symptoms... because I was not giving him wheat. ( I researched the heck out of celiac disease.... then totally stopped wheat. ... But if your dealing with diabetes ... wouldn't stopping wheat help your sugar levels reduce?

I think that celiac has presented its self differnetly in all of our kids. so ... your answers are gonna be differnt.

Yep- both boys were diagnosed at age 1yr. Our endo was pretty surprised to see us in the E.R. The baby is so much like his brother that they may as well be clones. They look the same, have the same medical issues, and even have the same goofy personality :)

Hello, just popped in my head to ask this question about medications and celiac? I have always had refurse reaction to meds since I can remember  of what little meds my body is able to tolerate. I was taking gabapentin 300mg for a week,  in past I believe 150? Any ways it amps me up not able to sleep, though very tired. However I did notice it helped with my bloating sibo belly.I hate that my body is that sensitive and medical doesn't seem to take seriously. Im STILL healing with my skin, eye, and now ms or meningioma ( will know in April  which)and dealing with this limbo nightmare. I did write my name, address ect on the reclamation but im not tech savvy and not sure if went through properly. I called my city representative in Stanislaus County and asked if theres a physical paper i can sign for proclamation for celiac and she had no clue about what I was saying, so I just said I'll go back on website.

I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten-free ever since along with other lovely food allergies. Prayers

trents:  Why some can tolerate european bread but not american bread.     I take 600 mcg a day.  Right in the middle of the safe range.   Groups at Risk of Iodine Inadequacy Though though the NIH does not specifically list Celiac Disease in this group, they state: "Iodide is quickly and almost completely absorbed in the stomach and duodenum. Iodate is reduced in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed as iodide [2,5]."  That would certainly include malabsorption of Iodine due to Celiac Disease with resultant Iodine Deficiency. Vegans and people who eat few or no dairy products, seafood, and eggs People who do not use iodized salt Pregnant women People with marginal iodine status who eat foods containing goitrogens Deficiencies of iron and/or vitamin A may also be goitrogenic [51] https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iodine-HealthProfessiona   1
