No Morning Sickness?

Hi guys,

I found out I'm pregnant today. However I'm not getting sick at all, not in a sense of being gaggy and having to throw up at least.

My entire bloodpressure is really low, I'm dizzy and it feels like I have heart problems. Really weird. However I'm not getting this vomiting sick feeling at all. Is this normal? Can something be wrong with the baby?

All women in my family were sick. Apparantly I'm the only one who doesn't.

Thanks, Stef

Stef, first of all, congratulations on being pregnant! No, not nearly everybody gets morning sickness, be glad! My oldest daughter has five children, and only with her last pregnancy did she have morning sickness. It even varies from pregnancy to pregnancy with the same mother.

If you feel dizzy, with low blood pressure, you may have to eat more frequently. Don't eat apples at all, as they naturally lower blood pressure, and will make you worse. In fact, studies have shown that SMELLING apples will lower blood pressure!

Take Omega 3 fatty acids (now that it's winter, the best source for both omega 3s and vitamin D, which is also very important, is cod liver oil), they will normalize blood pressure. As in lowering blood pressure that's too high, and making blood pressure that's too low go up.

Make sure you take a good prenatal multivitamin, that has enough folic acid in it. Have you had your ferretin (iron stores) checked lately? Especially during pregnancy, it is very important that you are not anemic.

Thanks for your quick answer. That's very funny. Just this afternoon I was in the convenience store around the corner. I have immense sugar cravings for some reason. And I know, I know, I shouldn't do it, but for some reasons I need Pepsi. So I got the caffeine free pepsi, just to sip two times. Then I grabbed an apple and took of to the register. Then I brought the apple back and took the bananas, as if my body knew, that I shouldn't eat the apples  . I took folic acid today and a women's vitamin. Next time I'm in town I will get a good prenatal multivitamin. Do you know, which ones are glutenfree???

I still have the glutenfree cod liver oil pills at home. I will continue with them then. I've had a blood test done just today. Although I have a feeling it will come back ok. Since we tried to get pregnant for the last three years after my diagnosis. And, I think, because of a lack of nutrients, because of my celiac, it didn't work before. Now all these years glutenfree and having to be extra healthy for the tournaments, I don't think anything is missing. That's probably why it worked with getting pregnant in the first place. However I let them take some blood today, because you never know. There might be something missing.

I didn't even know, that Omega 3 fatty acids normalize the blood pressure. That's funny, and we had them at home all this time  .

OMG Steph! I am sooo happy for you! Congratulations!

Just for the record: My first and second pregnancy, I never had a day of morning sickness through the whole pregnancy. They were the girls...... My third pregnancy, I was sick as a dog throughout the whole pregnancy. They were the boys (the twins)...... That's how I knew I was having boys, because my body reacted so differently!

One Source Prenatal made by Perrigo Co. is gluten free and it says gluten free right on the bottle. It's a big ol' pink bottle. I found them at Wal-mart. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

Congratulations!

Like everyone has said, every pregnancy is different--even in the same woman. My mom and sister never had a day of nausea--I had it both times. Once for almost the whole 9 months, and once for 12 weeks--then it ended overnight.

Take good care :)

I never had any morning sickness! Everyone is different, you may find it comes on later or maybe you're one of the lucky ones who won't have to experience it. The first thing I did when I got up was to have a glass of o.j. and graham crackers... obviously that was before gluten-free, but I found that frequent snacking was the way to feeling good. I carried a bunch of snacks around too, you may want to have some with you too.

Congrats!!

Thanks for all the advices. I can sure use all of them. And Saturday, when I'm in town, I will get the glutenfree prenatal vitamins that you mentioned, Guhlia.

For some strange reason I can't have Bananas, they give me trouble. But all other vegetables are ok for right now.

I took your advice Ursa and ate more yesterday. I'm awesomely good today. No low blood pressure, not one problem. I'm so good, it's scary. I never felt so great in my entire life. I will get an ice cream today.

Around what week did the morning sickness set in with some of you girls, who actually did have morning sickness?

And a question at the admin. Can I show me with my belly as my avatar? Or is this too offensive. I'm fully clothed, it's just a side pic of me with my belly sticking out and the pant unbuttoned, because it's pretty tight already.....

For all others, this is really weird, too (I mean the belly). I thought today is the first day of my 5th week and I already look like I'm getting twins. It looks more like the 2nd or 3rd month. It's hard to pinpoint, because my husband and I were pretty active and I don't write everything down.

Greetings to all, Stef

Congratulations Stef!!! :D

I wasn't sick with either of my pregnancies either. All of the women on my mom's side of the family were sick 24/7 the whole nine months. My dad said it was like my mom had the stomach flu for nine months. My aunt and my cousins were the same way.

When my husband and I got married he already knew that when I got pregnant I wasn't going to work anymore because that's what we were expecting to happen.

So we were really surprised when I didn't get sick at all. Ever. During the first trimester I wasn't hungry, but it wasn't because of nausea or anything like that. Just didn't think about food so it wouldn't occur to me to eat. Second and third trimesters I got some cravings, but nothing big.

So I wouldn't worry about it. But call your doctor if you ever do get worried. A good OB office will make you feel fine about asking a lot of questions.

Again, congratulations to you and your husband. I'm so excited for you!!!

:D

I'm kind of excited too, although I'm a little bit cooled off about it as well. I'm kind of like, just get the thing out of me and over with. Don't get me wrong, it's not, that I don't want a kid. It's just, that I don't want to be pregnant. Wrong timing. Being an athlete is my profession, that's what I earn my money with and I hate doing something else to earn my money, just because I can't work out. I opened my own martial arts school August this year. How in the world will I do this now??? :( Some people already offered help, but you know how it goes, comes trouble, people disappear all of a sudden... and we can't make ends meet already, I need the students and the money. :( So I hope it all works out well.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thanks for all the advices. You guys are great.

Hi Stephanie,

This is kinda off topic... but why can't you continue with your martial arts school while you are pregnant? As long as you are healthy and well....

Maybe you have to modify your techniques a little, and reduce the body contact stuff... From my readings women can mostly continue doing what they were doing before pregnancy during pregnancy, with modifications only towards the 3rd trimester...

Teaching also doesn't mean you have to personally do / demonstrate everything. I am not into martial arts, but am into triathlon and spinning... lots of women do manage to find a way to continue, even with pregnancy.... My pilates instructor was teaching up to the day she gave birth, one of the trainors for the spinning instructor course managed to teach right throughout her pregnancy (though she did a lot more off bike coaching)..

Can be kind of inspiring to other women and an example of being active and healthy during pregnancy. Hope you can work this out. Where there's a will there's probably a way.

Best wishes and congratulations.

Sally

Hi Sally,

yes, you can teach with words. What I did in Germany was, I took two of my best students, put them in front of the others and talked about what and how I wanted them to do. And that worked out great. However I just opened my school this August. Most of them don't have a clue, what I'm talking about, so therefore, they can't really show it how I want it  .

Then it depends on what I'm teaching. I have more than one class to offer. Everything I'm offering at the moment is kickboxing, freestyle karate, self defense (the one in the german police schools called Ju Jutsu, not Ju Jitsu), Capoeira, and aerobic kickboxing. I sure can continue showing or even talk about the techniques in kickboxing. But if it comes to freestyle karate, with the acrobatic flips, like a backflip, I sure can't do that anymore. And my brandnew students can't do a backflip yet, so they couldn't show it. In fact I only have one pure Freestyle Karate student at the moment (she's 10), so she can't show it with somebody else. Freestyle karate means, modern karate with forms and weapons to music and acrobatic kicks mixed in there. Our backflip is called a "flashkick", which means a backflip with two frontkicks done on the "peak" of the flip. The capoeira is pretty much the same thing. There's no way, I can do that. And don't even start with the aerobic kickboxing. A pregnant woman can do sport, but what you have to be carefull about, is, when you're sweating and getting hot, you can cool off. The baby can't. There's a point, where it probably gets brain frizzle or something. I don't want to risk getting too hot. And when I teach aerobic kickboxing, I can't just stop in the middle of the workout. And I'm not that good at that, that i can teach without showing, cause I mix up counting. I'm a martial arts teacher, not an aerobic instructor. I just do THAT for the money right now.

Then when I teach the self defense class, it's the same thing. I just got three brand new students in three days ago. They don't do the kickboxing with the self defense at the end of the lessons, like my other students. They only want to do the pure self defense. This means, because they are the only ones that do it like that, they won't be taught together with our kickboxers and the "older" students. They are in the pure Ju Jutsu class. I need to train them alone and they have no clue at all, what I'm talking about yet. So we have a couple of problems right now, I have to find a solution for.

This means, if I'm really already in my 2nd, beginning of the 3rd month. That gives me about 4 or 5 more months to get them into everything they need to know for me being able to teach them without me actually showing it. And there's no way at the moment.

I'm not a bad teacher. Actually a lot of people are amazed about my ideas and ability to teach, but I'm really clueless at the moment.

Hugs, Stef

Here's the latest update. I've been feeling really bad on and off since christmas morning. First we thought, it's morning sickness. In general I'm always cold, so I didn't think anything about me freezing. Unless we took temperature. I had a fever, so it couldn't have been morning sickness. It might have been a stomache bug with some head cold mixed in there. I think I got the same stomache bug twice. Today is the first day I actually feel better and had the strength to come to the computer. So here I am. Last Wednesday I have been to the doctor. The kid will probably arrive August 12th, or some time around that date. They are usually not that serious about a set date ;) . This Thursday the fetus will be measured, so then I know more.

Talk to you guys then, Stef

I'm no expert on pregnancy, but my wife didn't have morning sickness for either child. She couldn't stand the smell of bacon cooking, though.

I'm feeling better since Monday now. No more freezing. Tomorrow after the doctors visit I will come back and let you know the latest news. Funny story: I e-mailed my childhood best friend and told her I'm pregnant and that I am self employed since last year. Her e-mail came back: Congratulations! I'm pregnant as well and I am also self employed since last year!

Funny, isn't it?

I didn't have morning sickness with either child either, I don't think there is anything wrong with you. We are just all different :P

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.
