Update/ To Brother In A Heap

Hi Everyone. This is an update on an earlier post. I did find my older brother in a heap, in pain and wanting it to end soon. There is no good news for him I'm afraid. After 2 weeks in hospital, he has a large tumor in his intestines, so large it is inoperable, also cancer has spread to liver, pancreas, bones and brain. Once cancer breaks through the intestinal wall, it travels everywhere, and travel it has.

Yes, he is a Celiac. 54 years old and only diagnosed this past week, after living his entire life with what we all have gone through most of our lives until we are diagnosed.

Please, please take care of yourselves! Please do not damage your intestines by eating one little bit of gluten. Not once! Because every time you damage your intestines, you can be setting up for cancer to start. Sad news for my family, but a heads up for every one of you to do the right thing. Eat well, take care of your self. Go gluten free.

I am very sorry to hear that he is so ill. You must all be very upset. And to think he is about the same age as me (I will be 54 in four months)! It freaks me out a little, I have only been gluten-free for just over a year now.

I will pray for your brother and your family.

Very Very sory to here about your brother I know what you are going through my brother and dad pass away in theirs 50's with esophagitis and lung cancer it was so hard to see them suffer . I was diagnosed at 52 three years a go and had it all my life so far I am the only one in my family to have it that we know of. I was diagnosed with blood work and biopsy the doctor though i might have hepatitis he ran that panel said my liver #s were off the charts and then he ran the celiac panel and that 's what it was never heard of this disease but doing fine . I have a great nepher that is 18 months old they have given him about 2 months he has brain cancer he hd surgery at 6 months old but can't operate on these he has 3 large ones it is so sad all we can do is pray that he doesn't have to suffer long . ( Big Hugs to you )

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
