We went to the Drs yesterday in regards to my 1yo daughter. The Dr said she thinks she is having problems with either Milk or the wheat and gluten she consumes. She ordered an xray and blood tests. Well the xray came back showing Bella was extremely "backed up" she was completely full of poop. Which is confusing cause she poops everyday. Obviously not enough. So the Dr still wanted the blood work to rule out other possiblities. My daughters symtoms are these: Extrememly bloated tummy that gets very hard and her belly button pops out after eating pretty much anything. She hasnt gained weight in the last 2 months. She also gets consitpated often and has STINKY farts. She has never thrown up a day in her life. She has been cranky and irritatble with a slight fever but she just cut her 1yo molars and once they were thru she was fine again. She has been an extremely good and easy baby. Slept thru the night from the beginning. Do you think its possible she has celiac? The Dr didnt tell me to stop giving her anything until the results come in. She didnt even mention Celiac but I knew what she meant when she talked about the wheat and gluten. Ugh....I must be just a normal mother worried to no end about the "possibilities" my child might actually be really sick. But the more I read the more and more I pray its not celiac. I dont know how you all do it. I've never been able to follow a diet let alone something like this. You all have gained big points in my book for what you all go thru and have to do.

Anyone have a fast forward button so these results can come in quicker???

Why not? If the tests have been done, what do you have to lose by not giving her gluten?

I could stop giving her gluten until then but the Dr didnt tell me to, and she never even said celiac....I'm just so lost and confused about this whole situation....I am watching what we do give her and what effect it has on her.

Listen, about the diet, before my son was diagnosed I never could stick to a diet myself. But I always tried to make sure my son was getting "healthy" things even before I found it he had Celiac Disease. So I was a selective shopper for him already. It was an adjustment for me once I learned what he had, and I definitely mourned the "old way" of doing things and also on what he would be missing out. But to have my son healthy, that was enough reason to keep me on the diet. And every week it got a little easier. Now it's second nature. And since he had it so young, he doesn't even miss the things that I was so upset about before, and overall I've found some pretty good alternatives, too. If this is what your child has, believe me, you'll adapt. It's daunting at first, but eventually you'll develop a system. And you'll love to see your child healthy, and therefore happier, too.

My dd is the BEST sleeper I have out of all 4 of my dd's. She is also the 1st one in my family that was diagnosed. So I don't think her being a good sleeper is a sign of nothing wrong. My dd had diarrhea and some vomiting. And her tummy was only slightly bloated. And her gas and poop were HORRIBLE. She could outdo my dh, and that really says something!

Anyway, after the diagnosis, I kept her on gluten so we could do the biopsy. But every time I gave it to her, I felt like I was poisoning her! So that is how I look at it now. Gluten is POISON for celiacs! Plain and simple. When you think about it that way, it makes it pretty easy to stick to the diet. I have never been able to stay on a diet before until now. I REALLY want to eat gluten things that were my favorites, but I don't want the stomach ache and other problems that goes along w/ it.

It did help my dd some when she was gluten light. After the blood work and before the scheduled biopsy (which we didn't do) I would only give her a peace of bread or something light. It helped some. So you could atleast try that w/ your dd. It won't cure her if she has celiac, but it may help some.

Good Luck and keep us updated!

I would keep her on a regular gluten containing diet until her results come in if you want a biopsy confirmed diagnosis. It's completely up to you but a biopsy will not be accurate if you take her off gluten.

Good luck and I hope she gets better!

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
