I am just curious if anyone has had reactions to these products. I am pretty sure I have had a reactions to Maple Leaf hot dogs and I think I had a gluten reaction to Amy's Soups. I have not personally had Old Dutch chips or Healthy Choice since going gluten free. Thanks.

I had another one, but the poll wouldn't let me add any more:

Healthy Choice Soups

Yes

No

I had a reaction, but it was to something other than gluten (please indicate)

I have not had this product

Maybe

Amy's - definitely. Tested and retested because there are a couple of their products that I loved . But I got the worst glutening I have ever had from their products. Three times.

The first time, I figured I must have glutened myself somehow. The second time I tried another product thinking maybe it was just a product specific CC problem. The third time was after I waited for several months and re-tried the first product again.

That was enough for me not to trust any of their products. It's just not worth the two weeks of recovery.

I haven't had any of the other products.

There's been a lot of discussions on here regarding Amy's gluten-free status, which is why I haven't tried them yet.

I had a giant black hair in my Healthy Choice product years ago and I was so grossed out I haven't tried them again.

I don't eat hot dogs, so I can't help you there.

I'm unsure if I reacted to Old Dutch since the last time I tried them was in the early stages of being gluten-free.

I would be turned off from their products after I found hair too ;)

I have not had Healthy Choice soups.

I am in a process of trying gluten-free diet to see if it makes any of my symptoms better and I eat a lot of Amy's products. I tend to eat Amy's Shepherd's pie (labeled gluten-free) 2x week. I should probably reconsider eating it now :(

I couldn't answer about any other than the Amy's. Eating that companys food is like playing roulette, same as many other companys that make stuff that is not gluten-free along with gluten-free food.

Healthy Choice I would not touch. Not worth the risk. The company that makes it makes so little gluten-free food that I would never touch the few items they do make. I prefer to safe rather than sorry. If I want soup I use HerbOx bullion (gluten and MSG free) and throw in a few veggies and Thai Kitchen rice noodles.

Edit: I was thinking of a different brand not 'Healthy Choice' I don't know what the CC risk would be with them.

Occasionally I buy Healthy Choice pasta sauce but not the soup. I'm not sure I've ever seen Healthy Choice soup. We don't usually get Old Dutch chips, and never buy Amy's.

With regards to Maple Leaf, we get the Top Dog hot dogs as it's the only gluten-free hot dog I've ever encountered. Ty's asymptomatic, so that doesn't help you, but I'm pretty sure that they contain soy. I wonder if that might be the problem.

I have been eating hot dogs quite a bit, and I've checked 3 or 4 different labels looking for gluten and not found any gluten.. i think. I have changed to all beef ones after reading the labels....

Could I just be missing something.. what's the gluten containing ingredent?

Nancy,

What Amy's products did you have reaction to?

The one I had twice was the Black Bean and Vegetable Enchiladas, the one I had once was the Shepherd's Pie.

This was many months ago, so I'm not sure if I was just unlucky or if they have a real problem. I'm just not brave enough to try them again.

I'm from Canada where we sprinkle wheat on everything. Gotta support the farmers. :P

All y'all from south of the 49th have LOTS of hot dogs to choose from.

Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it :)

I never reacted to Amy's shepard's pie or the enchilada thingy, but I am pretty sure I had some sort of reaction to their soups and chili

I reacted very badly to the black bean and vegatable enchiladas and the black bean chili. This was back in Jan.

Amy's really sounds like it is hit or miss. I guess I have been lucky eating their frozen dinners.

Amy's tomato pasta sauces are the suspect for me- too scared to try them again.

I am just so tempted to eat Amy's sometimes...

Maybe it's because the Amy's products you've had are cross contaminated. The Shepherd's Pie isn't, I've had it with no problems, but that's just me. Amy's soups are made in a facility that processes wheat, along with the meal entrees.

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.

I was taking medicine for sibo but it was not agreeing with my stomach at all.Was on gabapentin but it amps me up.I was taking in morning because it wasn't allowing me to sleep. This has always been an issue with medicine and me.Even going to dentist, the good shot that numbs you once, I can't take because it makes my heart beat fast and I  get the shakes.I have to take the crappy stuff and get injected always more than 4 times always. Its infuriating

I showed one doctor I went to once because completely clueless of celiac disease and yes that one was connected to a well known hospital and she said oh thats just a bunch of people that think they are celiac coming together. I said um no they have doctors and knowledge behind what is being written. So bay area is Downplaying this site! SADLY

If you successfully digest gluten with enzyme supplements so it won’t give you side effects, your challenge won’t be worthwhile because the digested fragments of gluten also won’t stimulate antibody production or cause intestinal damage.
