Needing More Advice Before My Dr. Appt. Tonight

Hello all. I was terribly sick in the middle of the night! Yesterday afternoon I found myself starving hungry! So with my sandwich, I tried something new. I had a few peanuts. Aren't they gluten-free or no??? The nutritionist has told me to have peanut butter on toast at times and I have with no problem, so I figured peanuts must be okay if penut butter is ok. During the middle of the night I woke up with the most intense cramping and pain in my lower stomach that I have ever felt in my life seriously! I ran to the bathroom and was having diarrhea and vomiting and extreme dizziness. I was also inso much pain that I was practically in tears and yelling for help even though I was alone! I am going to the GI doctor tonight at 5:00

Were they pure peanuts in the shells? Were they packaged/processed? Some peanuts have flavouring/coating on them that may contain gluten.

Other than that, it sounds exactly like when my mom has bouts of diverticulitis. That's the kind of pain she experiences. There is a link between diverticulitis and celiac......

Walter - it depends on the peanuts! If they are the packaged, salted or roasted kind, they sometimes have wheat flour in the salt or seasonings, so that may have been the culprit. Maybe your nutritionist has some insight to offer.

When you say the doctor suggested peanut butter on toast, I assume you mean toasted gluten free bread?

Hi Walter, I noticed you had another post from the day before about the birthday party issue. I am wondering if you may still be reacting from that. The peanuts of course could be a not safe item, you really should call on your processed foods before consuming if you can.

If you can eat most unprocessed foods right now you will heal faster and then you can add more 'suspect' items in one at a time to see if they cause a reaction. That makes it much easier to pinpoint the offending food.

One thing to also keep in mind is that gluten is an intolerance and for some it is not what we ate today that got us, it is something we had 2 days ago. Many will have seemingly insignificant reactions quickly, for example my tummy will start to growl within an hour of eating gluten but my D shows up 3 days later. Once you have healed you should be able to pick up your bodies 'tells', for some it may be a headache, or joint or muscle pain, for others fatigue after eating, for some insomnia, balance issues, depression and anxiety these are only a few of the signs of a glutening that can show up before the GI issues display.

It takes a bit of time to heal and I hope things resolve for you quickly.

      You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

      Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

      Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

      Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

      I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
