i think there is one person (jerry K) on here who has had issues with his enamel. i know for my self i have had 4 teeth refilled in the last 6 months and 2 other teeth have new decay. i am not thrilled with all of this let me tell you my dentist figures its the acid reflux that i suffer with, not to mention that when you are going to the bathroom all the time and not absorbing nutrients this can effect your teeth as well.

I've had numerous dental problems my whole life: crowns, bridges, extractions, root canals, bad gums, etc.

In one strange instance, thirty years ago, a lump grew in a spot where I had a tooth pulled, due to a Vitamin A deficiency, and I had to have that cut out by an oral surgeon.

Yes, it is very common. When you are malnourished due to poor absorption you can not absorb the vitamins needed to maintian the enamel on your teeth, etc.

I personally have lost most of my teeth, due to this. I was diagnosed 19 years ago and I still have dental issues. I am in the process of getting partials at this point.

Here's the abstract of a recently published article from the May 2007 International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, Dental enamel defects in children with coeliac disease. The study was conducted in Holland.

"Conclusion. This study showed significantly more specific enamel defects in Dutch children with coeliac disease as compared with children in the control group. Dentists could play an important role in recognizing patients with coeliac disease."

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study
