After seeing a commercial for Moon sand on tv and in antisipation of my daughters 3rd birthday in August I went to the website on the screen. It didn't say what company makes it and the number was strictly for ordering from an automated system.

After much searching I thought I had found the correct company and I e-mailed them to ask about gluten. Here is the response I got. I thought it was cool and e-mailed back and told her so. Only with better vocabulary. :P Didn't know if anyone knew about this yet.

Good afternoon,

Unfortunately this is not a Danawares product. It belongs to SpinMaster however I have found what you are looking for (you can find it on the SpinMaster web site)

Moon sand DOES NOT contain wheat, gluten, milk, egg, casein or peanut ingredients.

Hope this helps. Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Stephanie Vanat

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
