Gluten Free Pantry

While grocery shopping on Sunday I discovered that our Wal-Mart is now carrying 2 gluten free pantry mixes. They have a brownie mix and a muffin mix. I was estatic!! The brownies are not the chocolate truffle like they sell on their website they are just plain brownies. I am hopefully going to make them today!! I'm sure they are just as good as the others. They were only $2.98 for a 16oz. box. as to on the gluten free.com website you pay $4.35 for their 16oz bag of chocolate truffle brownie mix. SOOO much cheaper and way more convenient to pick them up at the store!! YEAHHH!!!

I love the smell of warm brownies in the oven.

My Walmart had them for 2 for $3!!! I think they were on sale or clearance or something though. I can't imagine that's the normal price. I haven't tried the brownie mix yet, but the muffin mix is AWESOME!!! I made blueberry muffins and they turned out moist and delicious, best muffins I've ever had possibly. :) I'm so glad that other Walmarts are carrying the mixes too. Perhaps they'll get the idea that the stuff will sell if they carry it, especially if they carry it for a reasonable price.

Ok, so I sort of "super charged" my brownies hehe. I took two packages (4 cups) of reeses pb cups and diced them up and put them ontop of the warm brownies. Then smothered all of that in a can of frosting. OMG Soooooooo good!! My avatar is the picture of a brownie, the box, and a glass of milk (had to wash all that rich stuff down somehow).

I will for sure be buying these on a regular basis. Now I need to try the muffin mix that Ghulia is raving about ( I was afraid I wouldn't like it).

I just got back from Walmart and picked up three boxes of the muffin mix. I make them all the time, but I'd never seen them in that type box before. I saved myself a lot of money, too! I also saw the brownie mix, but I can't have soy. It's nice to see gluten-free at Walmart--and for cheap!

I have never seen their products packaged that way before either. However was just walking by this shelf and recognized the turquoise stripes on the corner of the box (total brand recognition)!! I had to stop and read the box like 10 times to make sure it really was gluten-free pantry and I wasn't dreaming!!

By the way...my belly is still full of brownie haha But it was SOOO good!!

I've never seen them packaged that way either... Usually they're in a bag with a similar design. Perhaps they're putting them in boxes to market them to mainstream grocery stores. The box may be just another barrier to keep us safe from the glutenous baking aisle that they put the mixes in. Though, I found my boxes in the pasta aisle of all places. Ha!

What aisle are you guys finding these in? I'll have to look next time I go to Walmart.

I found mine right where the other food was--the muffin mix was with the other muffins, and the brownie mix was next to the other brownies (down the baking aisle). Maybe they'll start carrying other stuff, too!

I found mine in the "wierd food" section hehe  It was by some rice milk, almond milk, protein bars, diet foods etc.

Did you find the mixes in a wallmart superstore- or was it just one of the smaller wallmarts? I ask because I live closet to one of the smaller wallmarts, and im want some of these mixes. So I need to find out if I should take the longer drive to the superstore.

jmengert Enthusiast

I found mine at a large superstore. I hope you can find them where you are!

I got mine at a super wal-mart.

Sugarmag Newbie

I went to my local super Wal-Mart last night, and no luck! They didn't carry any gluten free items. There is a much larger one north of me though, might have to give it a try, those prices you guys listed sure would make it worth the drive!! Just thought I'd let people know it doesn't seem to be "all" Wal-Marts, and this one just opened about 4 months ago, so it's brand new.

TrillumHunter Enthusiast

I found them at mine as well! They were mixed in with the cake and muffin mixes--they weren't together. I bought two boxes of each even though I have no plans to eat them. Wal-Mart is quick to drop things if they don't sell extremely fast. Like two weeks ago they had the Vans gluten-free waffles but not this week.

My A&P has started carrying the Gluten Free Pantry's brownies, muffins, and chocolate cake mix. I believe they even carry a yellow cake (old fashion cake mix?). They are also carrying the Mi-del cookies now. This was all a new development after they renovated the store. I commented to the manager about how happy I was to see glutenf free food as it saves me a trip to the local health food store (kind of a hint to make sure they know it is appreciated so they will keep on ordering). She told me that the A&P chains are trying to make it a "one stop shop" for their customers.

Our SuperWalmart didn't have them. :(

I checked the weird food aisle AND the baking aisle, and no luck.

No Luck for me either and I went to two different super Wal-Marts :( .

However, I did find the powdered cheese from Kraft to make the Tinkyada pasta taste like Krafts blue box mac&cheese :D . (Thanks to Jessica, I think, from a different thread).

Our Walmart carries the Vans and now Deboles, but not GFP. Actually, I should see our WalmartS. We have 6 Supercenters within an hours drive in all directions. :)

Are you sure they stopped carrying them or maybe just sold out. I have had experiences with the Redbridge beer at Walmart. I did not see it in the cooler and asked an employee to check in the back. The person checked and said they did not have any. I did not believe him. I got the manager and he returned with the case I wanted. Most of the average employees don't know gluten-free from space flight. If you think the waffles might have been dropped then see the store manager and voice your concern. Wal-Mart does have among the cheapest prices of any store I have visited. It has gotten me angry for a different reason. I don't think Wal-Mart is selling gluten-free items at a loss so therefore it means only one thing and that is the so-called speciality stores are "ripping us off".

I can't believe it! I live in the middle of nowhere in NE Iowa and my Walmart had brownies, muffins, and Vans waffles! Holy Buckets Batman! I am definitely writing a letter to express my gratitude.

We have a very small coop grocery in town but the prices are out of this world. Muffin mix was over $5. I'm not much of a baker so I never thought twice about not buying a mix for that price. I don't neccessarily think the specialty stores are ripping us off that much. There is absolutely no way to compete with Walmart's volume buying/selling capabilities. Even large specialty store chains like Whole Foods or Trader Joes can not come close to buying the volume of product that Walmart can. So Walmart gets the cheap price when they buy and simply pass the savings on to us minions. The turn around volume at Walmart is tremendous so I think they further lower prices by not marking them up as high as other chains, thus attracting even more business. It really is genius.

Ok ya'll quit talking about brownies I love brownies, :P I have not seen these at my walmart I have 4 walmart near me within 5 mile radius either direction, I guess that I'm going to have to go shopping to check out the other 3 that I havent gone too in a while. And I can handle the price that ya'll are talking about too.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
